BMW and M Power Owners

I think it's a fairly nuts purchase really, it's almost 30 grand for a 4 year old high mileage diesel. It'll be a 100ker after only a few years of usage.

When you consider you can order a brand new 640d for about £40k you must surely see why a 4 year old high mileage one with no warranty for only 25% less isn't exactly amazing. It's priced high because of its spec but most of the amazing spec is hardly essential.

Adaptive Drive is the internets favourite thing ever, everyone bangs on constantly about how unmissable it is yet everyone who actually ordered the cars new clearly felt it was very miss-able as it's probably the rarest option on a 5 or 6 Series. I have experienced it and it is good but it isn't good enough for me to buy a 65,000 mile car from a random dealer instead of a 35,000 mile car from a BMW main dealer just because the former has it and the latter doesn't.

1 year newer, half the mileage, from a main dealer with a proper engine in it.

Or perhaps if you want a diesel with massive rimz:

Or more spec:

Adaptive Drive and LED lights are not worth the enormous compromise that car represents.

Its actually 50k...

One of my friends has had a 640d with and without adaptive drive and his view is that whilst its ok and you can tell the difference it certainly isn't worth the cost and if he hasn't had a car from stock with it on he wouldn't have ordered it.

Inspired by the discussion in mrk's M3 thread I thought I'd see what mine looked like with no front plate.

'Terrible' is the answer. Though it does highlight an F10 annoyance - BMW didn't bother with a numberplate bracket on the front bumper so the plate just randomly slaps on the bumper and looks crap.

See now on the F10 the nose is designed with plates in mind, there's a huge empty area of nothingness otherwise. On the E46 I think once you forget that numberplate even existed, it looks properly nice and suits it, now that I've looked at it some more!

If I could be 100% sure that I would be given no grief by the plod for not having front plates then I'd just do away with it. But then I'd have the knowledge that not having a front plate means no front plate holder, which leaves 3 holes in the bumper where the holder screws into... Argh!

I specifically told my dealer to attach my plates with tape so that there would be no holes.

The monkeys screwed it on anyway. I was fuming, and told them in no uncertain terms, if it happened again, I would reject the car. I was soooo close to rejecting this one, although that was more for the silver roof rails instead of black like I had asked for.

Where are your 19's Fox?

No car looks worse with the front plate off. Doesn't make it pretty though. :p

If I had ordered black roof rails, I wouldn't be taking it till they were black. OR, if they'd do them later, their expense and something for my time wasted for their incompetence.

A mate of mine bought a 458 which had a front number plate on, didn't like it so took it off, that's been almost 6 months now and he uses it daily and has never been stopped, guaranteed if you or I did it in our car we'd be pulled immediately......

I reckon with a totally clean front it'd look better than it does with the plate. Not really worth the hassle of getting stopped though.

Oh with my luck for sure!
