BMW and M Power Owners

I have to disagree with the statement they are a bling factor more than anything. More than anything else they are a safety device. And poorly fitted HID's might be irritating in your rear view mirror, but properly fitted, and used, xenons should not be in the least bit irritating.

Must admit though, on a car with decent headlights I've never found myself feeling like I absolutely needed xenon's.

Still far rather have them than not, particularly on most BMW's where the headlamp unit is changed significantly by them

Love the way everyone pounces on people with no xenons, really what does it matter? sure there nice but its not as though you cant see the road without them.... all they are is a bling factor more than anything, and bloody irritating in your rear view mirror most of the time (and yes I've had several cars with xenons myself)

The issue with Xenon and BMW is that almost always they fit an inferior looking front light unit to cars without Xenon headlights which changes the look of the car. Luckily its not quite as bad as it could have been on the F10 as you do at least get projectors (The 1 and 3 Series looks awful without Xenons as they fit 1993 Ford Fiesta style reflectors) but you do lose the clear LED corner indicators in the headlight housing.

I need to learn to properly heel-toe. Rev matched downshifts sound awesome on the m3 (especially 2/2.5 pipe exhaust mod). One of the advantages of having a DCT I guess but I love manuals!

Rev matching in a manual is quite rewarding and satisfying, but when you get it wrong (it happens :p) it's cringe :o

I know I did it yesterday so badly it sounded awful :D

On a completely separate note...leather cleaning! I remember using Gliptone on my 335 and it was pretty damn good but the M3 has novillo leather and not Dakota which has quite a matt finish.

I've read the Gliptone conditioner isn't really needed on newer leather, so am I ok just picking up the cleaner?

The conditioner's job is just to keep the leather well fed, modern leather is new enough to not need the feed I guess. I find the Gliptone feed leaves a matte finish once it has fully set into the surface and I've given it a final buff off. That's on Nappa leather that h as a slightly matte finish to it anyway.

Actually just read a thread on detailing world and advises against conditioner.

Might pick up dr leather wipes then.

Yep - for the money and spec I could over look a service missed by 5k.

Pros:

Petrol goodness
Sports Auto
Pro Nav
Cream interior with black gloss (what is everybody's obsession with wood?)
Sports seats/ steering wheel
Black gloss line and black sports grill
Anthracite headlining
19" wheels

Cons:
Late service
No Xenons - will dampen blow with Philips Xtremes

One more question for the night - the override on the blowers on the dash, is the only way to override it to leave it in the middle position? Such a ridiculous system to have auto temp control but an override set by hot or cold...

Are you sure that it did actually miss a service? I saw that you said it was sold at 60k to the last owner, by an OMGMAINDEALERSOGOOD, and they hadn't serviced it, despite it being 14k since its last one? I suppose you've called BMW to enquire about the service history just in case someone has forgotten to stamp the book?

I have Dr Leather wipes and to be honest, I'd just get a bottle of cleaner and a microfibre cloth. There's no benefit to the wipes as you're supposed to wipe the seats down with a cloth afterwards anyway.

It wouldn't have been due just 14k after the previous service though, so there is no reason for them to have performed it prior to sale.

Does the F10 have CBS as well? or is it set intervals? I'm quite happy that the only item my M3 shows as coming up in the next year is rear brake pads (plus a new set of fronts).

I find the Dr Leather fluid a lot better than the wipes personally. Need to do my new car with them :D

Driving to work this morning for the first time in the M3; pulled up behind a very shiny van and could see the reflection of angel eyes :( :( Not sure how I managed to miss that. They will definitely be coming out!!!

I am not a fan of E46 angel eyes, however they do look a lot better than most of the rubbish you see on E46's.
Had a poke around during my lunch break. Does anyone know if they changed the fog lights on the E46? The type I have are projector types and an M3 parked near me on an 04 plate has reflector types that sit a lot more flush.
