BMW and M Power Owners

Lol, says the A6 owner. The E60, whilst not without its flaws, can quite happily handle high mileage without being a "money pit".
My 2010 A6 is better built and has no rattles at 60,000 miles. Sure, the driving dynamics leave a lot to be desired, but what do you need from a 2.0 diesel?
My dad's 2006 525d (which he had from new) had bits falling off and rattles after only 3 years and 20,000 miles. At the time I thought that car was amazing, but it really wasn't. It wasn't a patch on the E39 and F10 in their prime.

I'm just saying that an early one could be a potential money pit, especially in the £5k price range. I'm not saying an Audi C6 A6 at that price point won't be either!

What would a 2006 A6 have been like given the E60 was LCI'd in 2007? It's hardly a fair comparison, but if comparison is what you are after, my 155k 530d has no bits falling off of it, no wear to interior, at all, the original cream mats are still cream, etc, etc.

So the car went in for a sticky glass hatch today. BMW called to say they had changed the condensation sensors and the boot was working fine and there was no problem. A bit frustrating as I was explicit that it was the glass hatch and not the boot. Needs to go in for 2 days for the repair next month.

I also picked up another bit of trim from eBay. There was a scuff on it but some wet sanding and polish and it looks like new. The down side to the hex trim is that if the main body of the trim gets scuffed it shows and is impossible to remove the damage. I imagine even badly marked wooden trim could be restored easily as the clear coat seems quite deep.

Thanks that would be great.

Bit of a kick in the teeth to end up paying 3 times as much simply due to buying the car a month after you.

To be fair I was given a brand new 2007 A6 2.0 tdi as a courtesy car for a month. Give me a rattling 200k 525d over that POS any day. It was so bad I stopped driving it altogether and drove our Legacy instead.

330i died on me this morning. Drove it to my gp which is 5 mins away, probably less then a mile in fact. Went to start it again and it would turn over but not fire up.

Quick Google said fuel pump relay or fuel pump. I couldn't hear it prime or it wasn't as prominent as before. Anyway I thought it could be the crappy supermarket fuel I filled up with yesterday.

Cue me chancing it and hitting the back seat bottom rapidly to see if it did the trick. Most likely an coincidence but it got it started. Have ordered fuel pump and fuel filter. I do suspect it's on its way out.

A good trick if the fuel pump is suspect is to have someone smack the tank from underneath the car a few times and another person turn the key. Usually works to get you back to where you can safely park :) Wouldn't rely on that method though.

When mine died, Mister Auto were by far and away the best price compared to Ebay/GSF/ECP, and they stocked Bosch and VDO Siemens (OEM), don't get the Pierburg one, I had nothing but problems with that before I binned it.

At my last BMW service I received an advisory that my rear windscreen had shard at the base. Could see the shard. Organised through my insurers replacement rear screen.

Auto glass are Direct Line approved partner. Spoke to DL on Sunday who transferred me directly to auto glass. Gave AG vehicle details. AG advised generic glass would be the replacement. Requested BMW original. Advised my request would have to clear the appropriate channels and confirmation would be required from DL to proceed. Paid the £75.00 excess fee (standard) as I am covered by DL full comprehensive insurance

AG advised the glass would have to be on special order from Germany.

Received call this evening from AG confirming the rear screen will be delivered on Friday 5/02/16 and can be fitted on the same day in the afternoon. Arranged appointment for fitting the replacement on Saturday 6/02/16. Extremely pleased with the my insurer DL and AG. Excellent service provided thus so far. I am one very happy and pleased person to say the least :)

Bit of advice needed please chaps.

Looks like someone has bashed their trolley or bike into the passenger door of my father in laws 2 series whilst in the car park :( its left quite deep scratches and dents. (Excuse the poor pics)

Does this need to be repaired by BMW to maintain the BMW paint and corrosion warranty?

Insurance renewal came through yesterday, they want £1,300 as apposed to the £750 last year and re-running a quote on their site still comes out as £1,000. May be time to leave Admiral...

Happens to me every couple of years during my Admiral > Aviva > Admiral > Aviva cycle of insurers :D

I find the problem with Aviva is the only way they get their quotes to be competitive is they really ramp up the excess.

My car is insured through them. They gave me the lowest quote out of any of the many companies I phoned (as well as using comparison sites and so on) - and my excess is £150 voluntary + £300 compulsory*

Better than the others which were usually about £250 + £350 compulsory*

* The compulsory excess is because I'm under 21.
