BMW and M Power Owners

Quite a conservative new model, not surprised given the market segment. Like it generally but that vent/'gill' behind the front wheel looks horribly out of place.

Ugh, whats the deal with BMW squashing the front of their cars and making the rear ends more 'boxy'? That 5 has now caught up with the ugly characteristics that the rest of the line up have.

Anyone know what i mean? The front looks squashed and disproportionate now...

Think i'll be sticking with the F10 come upgrade time then, not a fan of the new one, or i may get a slightly older 7 series with the individual leather trim.

Well following the second problem still a 9. I love it. Simple as that. It does everything I need and everything I really want.

There are some niggles - which actually seem to be fairly common ones. For example when the passenger seat is empty, because the back is so heavy it can get a bit of a vibration going over bumps (alleviated by pulling the seatbelt across it). When someone's in it the seatbelt holder rubs against the leather and squeaks. There's one bit of plastic (where the eco/sport buttons are) that feels a bit crap.
For such a large car the back seats don't have a ton of leg-room (I'm 6ft and the gf is 5 8).

However...The engine is absolutely fantastic. Whisper quiet when cruising but put your foot down and the sound is great. Really deep bellow. The power delivery is perfect and very very smooth. Something everyone has remarked on that's been in it. Very little road noise too so you really enjoy the engine note when it's present.
Interior looks - I have the dark grey poplar with ivory nappa and contrast stitching on the dash. Lovely but totally personal taste. The carpet is about 2 inches deep on the floors - gives you an idea of the quality.
Gearbox - it's a zf8hp nothing more needs to be said. There's a reason that Rolls and Bentley use them. Flappy paddles are kinda fun but tbh I mostly just leave it in auto.
HUD is a very nice thing to have, not obtrusive and exactly where you want it. Gives a good bit of info especially if you have nav active. (Replacement unit for mine is currently on order due to that horrendous noise).
The adaptive suspension is nice but tbh you could probably survive quite comfortably without it!
Adaptive lights and HB assist are great. Such a step up from the lighting system I had in the 328i.
Sunroof is nice as well - strange how much heat it takes out of the interior on boiling days!
Only weak point on mine in terms of spec for me is the audio, there's just not a lot of depth to it. However as a few of the gents on here can confirm that is banished with the H&K system - I'd highly recommend you can get the option if you can.
Boot space is...well...plentiful. It's surprising! The ski hatch is also strangely useful.

There are a few options I don't have but really don't see the need for, they're nice to haves. 360 cam for example - it's a big car (very long) and so can be a pain to park. Lane departure, blindspot detection meh. Just pay attention.

EGR valve replaced today by Stratstone - great service by them.

Edit: I really owe the thread some pics, I'll have to pull my finger out soon.

Appreciated, thanks Dis86 :) I'm leaning towards the 6GC to replace my X6 (older model one) however a new shape X5 is also in the mix. Good to hear your thoughts on the 6 mate thanks!

Agreed. Really don't like it. Reminds me of Clarkson describing the styling of the M4 with their a tyling for styling sake, and for me it's like they're trying to remind you of their "Ultimate Driving Machine" advertising and how the model can be sporty. Unsurprisingly, the interior isn't up to Mercedes level design either.

Very 7 series-like. I like it, but the F10 is a superb design so I don't find it that exciting.

They could have done a better job of that screen, looks weird.

Hmm, something of an evolution (no surprise there) and following the now much better 7 Series (from its initial awful e65 start)

Not a lot to see here really, I think an epic car has been improved upon, the chances of subsequent road test reviews slating it are near zero.

The BMW 5 is still the mid range exec to beat, much as its always been.

Here it is then. Thankfully nothing too dramatic, just refinement of a design and variants of power trains. Suprised to see active roll control but not air suspensions. Also electric trio so they are implementing 48V systems.

Downsized 7 series in many ways, although no carbon core technologies.

The 5 Series has offered active roll control without air suspension since 2004 so this should be no surprise.

The tourings will have rear air suspension.

Like it but it's very much an evolution of the F10. I'm not sure I'll rush to get one. Prob run my F10 another two years or so and get one second hand.

The 7-Series has been great since the 2008 F01. Even the facelift E65 was perfectly fine. I think the only ball they dropped with the 7 was the original E65 in 2002.
