braking going off an exit slipway, especially with a load of temporary signs up, is not unpredictable, it's exactly the behaviour i'd expect. 144 posts and other than the op you're the only person that thinks the audi driver is in the wrong. called it before, calling it again. you're the op, ain't ya??

an experienced driver - yes.
anyway the audi was doing about 25mph as the op overtook him when he'd finished braking.

ahh makes more sense now. experience does not automatically make for a better driver. when someone trots out the old 'i'm an experienced driver' line it's usually just after they've caused an accident that they are trying to claim isn't their fault. like crashing into a bollard close to an exit slipway!

What jpaul said is totally sensible. Tapping the brakes does not mean, braking. A quick tap will make the brake light come on and warn the tailgater to back off. That is much safer than suddenly braking for real.

Be careful doing that. If your tap is a little too much you might cause the tailgater to try and overtake, end up in lane 1 rather than on the slip, get confused and decide that the best way to resolve the situation is to drive straight into the nearest barrier.

erratic and unpredictable driving isn't for the roads 
the cones getting ran in to and the beacons flying up in the air in the last seconds is just comedy, at least you missed the big metal framed sign I suppose
but....it does kind of look like the Audi had made a mistake and was planning to turn back on to the motorway since you were right behind them looking like you were taking the slip... maybe there was enough distance to the car behind you for them to get back on the motorway...then they see you alongside them and assume you've made the same mistake and will be continuing on the motorway so commit to the exit slip since the 'other vehicles were coming fast' like you say

That video is kind of how I assume certain people have encountered someone 'brake checking' them, I.e. normal driving with them being too close.
