BRINK

Point being what exactly?

If I had known it was an issue I might have backed it up after every time I played.

My point being the fact they are not stored online is a bit silly. What happens to chars on consoles if the console dies? **** out of luck?

Does SteamCloud not pick them up? If not, why not? It appears people making manual backups cannot restore their characters either so something is screwed it seems.

Borederlands was the same, and that was just as much a nightmare. So, how long before max level character backups are on the net or character trainers? I'm not sure why a team based, online focused, objective shooter with leveling/XP does not store characters and account info in the cloud.

Well from what I understand the cloud makes it worse as your file gets corrupt and then the cloud saves the new wiped/corrupted file?! :(

I just assumed it was like battlefield or cod and would remember my loadout/level etc.

Can't be bothered with it as I know it can just wipe my char again :( I think I am going to leave it for a month or so.

So I heard 2 things about brink,

its unplayable on PC right now and

it is similar to Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory (which I adore).

Both true? Have devs said they would concentrate on fixing PC version or is this a classic case of a console port?

EDIT: Is the performance issues only ati related?

In short, my personal standpoint is this:

I will not be buying it till it costs what I believe it to be worth (I.E Not £30) and it's been patched to a level where I can play it without messing around with it, losing characters and with decent performance. Probably some driver updates before this time also.

1) No, it's far from unplayable. I've had one crash, but apart from that it has been fine.

2) Yes, in a way. The objective modes are similar, as are the classes.

First one is not exactly true. Some people have problems (many ATI users reporting various problems) but personally I'm 99% problem free and I'm using an ATI 6970. The only problem being the sound issue in one map and it's definitely annoying problem but Splash Damage has replicated the error and are fixing it sometime soon. There are some other annoying things like the server browser being a bit rubbish but I wouldn't say they are gamebreaking problems right now.

The second one is mostly true. It feels like a proper Enemy Territory clone in a completely different setting. It's definitely more mainstream than ET was but it's still far from CoD and other "generic" shooters. The only thing shown in scoreboard besides your name is exp which should tell a lot already. It's completely objective oriented class based gameplay. I also really like the S.M.A.R.T. movement mechanics. Really loving the game so far and it definitely brings back memories from years ago when I was still clan gaming and we happened to try Enemy Territory for few months.

Sucks I bought my 6850 pretty much for this and it runs like crap. Sooner they patch the better. should have gone with nvidia!

worth £22? thats the cheapest I've seen so far.

Been playing some at the better halves house on my laptop (1.8GHz C2D, 4GB DDR2, 8600GT) and just about manage to get 20fps at 640x480 lol. Still enjoying it though.

Can't seem to join my friends game/them mine as it's saying server is not responding... think I read about needing to forward ports.

Can't wait to get home and play it on my proper rig!

Well I have played 20 hours now and I gone from it looks cool to pretty crap but I'm gonna give it a chance to 'I go that lov'in felling' :) Starting to get to know the maps now and where the objectives are. Still got a long way to go before I know the maps lilke the back of my hand.

I wouldn't listen to much to the people that are having huge problems. it'll be fixed and it's a lot fo fun. Loads more people who are too busy playing to post anything negative!

There are a few bugs, but nothing majorly game breaking. I've had a couple of CTDs, and there's that one map that has no audio, but apart from that it's hella fun when the teams are working together :p

Don't think this has been posted already...

First Brink DLC is Free

It's no secret that Brink had a less-than-smooth launch, regardless of platform. Obviously some versions suffered more than others, but whether you're talking Xbox 360, PS3, or PC, the game needed some post-launch sprucing up.

Well, patches have been released across the board, implementing both performance and gameplay improvements. To show their appreciation for the community's support, Bethesda and Splash Damage have also announced that the first Brink downloadable content will be free.

"We would like to thank you for supporting Brink and for your continued feedback," the official Splash Damage blog reads. "To show our appreciation for your support of Brink, we will be making the first DLC for Brink available for free when it is released."

Based on that, the DLC was likely planned as paid content, but now whatever price tag was originally set has been yanked. The new content will be out in June if all goes according to plan, and introduces new maps and other content. More announcements and DLC information will be released soon.

Okay...I've played it a fair bit now...and I've finally got the hang of how the shooting works.

Have to say that this is probably one of the most refreshing games out in quite some time. I'm fairly confident that SD will iron out the bugs so I'll just list the good points I guess:

1) Kills aren't tracked on the scoreboard - only XP gained in a round...which is primarily gained by completing objectives and helping out the team. Kills give you XP too but by themselves are only a small part of it.

2) The objectives feel way more varied that most other games, despite boiling down to about five different 'situations' (which you play from both sides depending on whether you're playing the resistance or the security team).

3) Servers are a bit rough atm but once that is ironed out (and there's some kind of filter to get rid of listen servers) the actual netcode in general feels quite good. Hit boxes aren't crazy/etc.

4) I love the light body type - sweeping people is hillarious :D
