BRINK

I'm tempted to get this game, but I must ask: What's the game like with a mouse and keyboard? I tried it on my mate's 360 and using a controller the game just feels... wrong. They got the acceleration of the control sticks wrong, a bit like overdone mouse acceleration, and it's a right ******* to play. Strangely enough though I did quite well (LMG and heavy bodytype for the win), although I imagine that is simply due to the fact that all the other console players were experiencing the same problems. What's the PC version like? At £25 I'm tempted...

Just had a quick go on the single player on this due to downloading stuff in the background and I have a sound issue on it (keeps skipping constantly during any voice audio, yet ingame its fine). However, graphics wise it runs very smoothly on max everything, although it should do on a i5 2500k at 4.5ghz and a 580gtx lol.

Just got the latest realtek HD audio drivers from guru3d so I'll see if they make any difference shortly. Seems like a decent game though from the 40 or so mins I experienced. The character customisation is rather nice, just gotta figure out which weapon combos are best etc.

Oh btw, as a soldier how the hell do you throw the molotovs? lol

You've gotta press 3 first to make sure its selected. That had me confused at first too.

The sad thing is there are more people in the OcUK Brink group playing Terraria than there are playing Brink ><

Takes a bit of getting used to, to your normal PC game of load, login and shoot some people - but a very good game.

Requires a brain to play in my view.

Its a shame the maps are so ****. Once a teams dug in, especially when you've got to escort some retarded NPC, its nearly impossible to push through. Whoop-de-doo, there are about 2-3 ways into an area, they're all a killing zone and when you die it takes 20-30 seconds to run back while it takes the defenders 5 seconds.

After playing it some I have to agree the map design is poor.

Even on equal footing in terms of team skill/class distribution some areas are either impossible to defend or impossible to push through. It only gets worse when the already dominant side captures command posts and becomes even more difficult to subdue.

Resistance seem to lose more than they ever win. Playing tonight, even with auto balance swapping the teams about I did not win a single game as resistance.

I am not sure what is up with weaponry either. Especially when it comes to damage output. My survivability seems god awful compared to the enemy. I get whacked instantly at some range by people with SMGs and I have yet to be able to replicate that for myself.

The damage in this game is very strange. I don't know if it's down to all the buffs like kevlar, engi wep buff, medic health buff + command post health buff - but sometimes you can drop someone miles away in a small burst, and other time it takes a full clip on someone right next to you and they still aren't dead.

I have had someone kill me in 1 shot from a semi-rifle at range, not even a headshot. I don't know if the game has random critical hits, random damage ranges or otherwise.

i got accused of cheating cause i killed someone with a smg, but the 2nd tier engi damage buff is just insane on dmg, which can be applied to sniper rifles which will give a 1 hit kill even though not a headshot.

I'm really enjoying Brink at the moment. Get a few mates together and it's almost like the rtcw and et days again :)

The trick is small teams. 5 vs 5 works well - which I think this is agreed size for scrims/clan games at the moment. You get none of the problems with nade spam and bottlenecks, just tight and viscious teamplay, and the game opens right up. CoD and BC have nothing on this.

PC

A game update for the PC version of Brink is in final testing and we’re planning to release it early next week. This update contains a host of fixes and improvements including the following:

We’ve identified the cause of sound dropping out on certain maps when playing networked games for a prolonged amount of time. This will no longer occur.

Graphical performance has been improved, especially when using Ambient Occlusion. We’ve worked closely with both AMD and NVIDIA, and you should see performance and stability improvements in future driver revisions from both parties.

The server browser is tweaked in this update, as well; among other things, a new filter allows you to display only servers with a certain number of players on them, and full servers will no longer be filtered out completely.

There are some smaller fixes for minor issues including your character’s voice occasionally resetting when deleting another character, and a memory leak when alt-tabbing out of the game.

Finally, the dedicated server is set to get an update at the same time as the main game, which will result in improved CPU performance. We’ve protected certain cvars that previously allowed server admins to accidentally break objectives involving NPCs.

The full changelog will be released alongside the update, so keep an eye out for that.
