BRINK

I think the game is very good i will seriously struggle playing games where you cannot move around so freely!

I agree the game needs some changes with regards to changing body type and abilities on the fly

So chaps, what is the general consensus? I can see that the game still has a few issues. but it can be bought now for less than £20.00.

Can anybody see any longevity in it?

I'm not sure how long it will last. I've had good fun with Brink so far - there are flashes of rtcw/et and teamplay wise there's no competition at the moment. There are performance niggles, however, and everything about it screams console port. Chunky cluttered ui, massive crosshairs, text everywhere. It's no rtcw, but I like the gameplay, the parkour elements, and it's pretty fun levelling up and trying out new abilities and weapon combos. I suspect the quality of the sdk and whether or not many of the console concessions can be ironed out will determine if Brink survives on the PC or not. Either way you should get your money's worth if you like teambased fps. Give it a shot :)

The customisation really works against it.

I get the feeling the fact body type is tied into the customisation is what ****ed up letting you change it mid-game where it needs to be.
Classes look identical. Ok I completely missed the icon next to the health bar but that doesn't help when you encounter a 'downed' enemy or when you don't get chance to see it.

Tbh though the game is going to fail so long as you get bottlenecked into a single class because of the way abilities are chosen. It was supposed to be that you could change class to what was necessary, but you can't really can you. A Rank 5 Engi with all his skills taken is significantly better than a Rank 5 Engi that specced entirely into another class.

That's not an issue on servers running comp settings - any class you select is maxed out. They also tend to be 5 vs 5 or 6 vs 6, which works much better than 8 v 8, and stopwatch, which is how it should be played (still can't change body types though). Unfortunately there aren't many of these around.

Well I think I ran into my first blatant hacker today. Even when disguised he'd know where I was and snap to me, not to mention the fact he never seemed to miss with SMG fire so you'd be dead almost immediately.

I think they could have done so much better with the maps. I think this would have made a huuuuuge difference.

For example container city should have had like 3 floors/levels of containers to run through, as well as slum-like mazes of passage ways/alleys on the ground between containers where you can choose to either be on the floor, on one of the several levels, or expose yourself and clamber across the top of them.

All the maps are more or less corridors with passage ways off at certain places, but they all lead back to the same place.

Guns just aren't balanced for the body types which makes the whole 'accessibility' based on body type rather pointless though. If you compare the difference between say a TF2 Heavy with his Minigun to a Scout with his Pistol against a Minigun vs an SMG (or pistol for that matter) on this game.

I really can't decide about the maps. Its only 8v8 but sometimes it just feels like there are so few opportunities to get around and go alternative routes that it doesn't matter.

Haven't played this game for a week, forgot I even had it. Won't waste money on reckless pre-orders in future.

Same £30 down the drain imo , all the vid's I watched it looked awesome, hard to explain but just plays really weird lol :D

o is it me or does the gfx look crappy compared to all the game play vid's

It's not just you. Looking at steam peak players it looks like it's already on the decline.

I've only played 2 hours and I just cant be arsed to played it anymore. should have pre purchased Duke or Deus Ex instead :/

There are so many things unpolished in it though.

I think the Operative gets the worst of it. Ever tried Comm-Hacking or Disguising? Sometimes if you do it just too far away it then runs you past the target you were trying to use it on forcing you to have come back and try again which takes a few seconds to work. Not to mention sometimes it doesn't even lock on the right target! Seriously last night I tried to lock on to a downed player and wound up running around the corner (faster than you can normally move) and almost tried to shove the hacking device up someones nose before I panicked and tried to shoot him instead.

Its even worse when said downed player is rank 5 and as such, has a gun. Using Comm-Hack stops them shooting you, but oh wait! After half a second the comm-hack stopped for no reason and before I could start it again the guy I was using it on shot me! And if that wasn't stupid enough, he was Medic so he then revived himself!

It is very frustrating sometimes.

Just for balance, I've played it for 61 hours and haven't been this caught up in a multiplayer game since cod 4 :D
Brink is amazing, so many reviewers and gamers have got the game so so wrong. It's like enemy territory quake wars with a spit shine. I absolutely love it :D

Spit shine? Only if you believe its a polished turd, which it isn't, there's a great game in there somewhere but its hidden underneath the mess of bad decisions.

The customisation seems to be the root of many problems, that is why you can't change body type mid-game and all classes look exactly the same. The dreadful ability system is the other major problem which forces you almost entirely into a single class, preventing you from playing the others effectively in a game that advertised itself as letting you change class on the fly to aid the team.

I totally disagree with all of this.
I am one of those people who always goes for the objective and changes class based on what I have to do. Pick and choose your perks and you can be great with every class.
