BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Last time I had BT Engineer come out and they never use my doorbell (because of my hard of hearing) and I went to kitchen and saw BT Openreach van driving off and I saw a note on my doormat that I wasn't in and was charged but they never use my doorbell at all. As I had checked the doorbell push button as it still working loud and flashing light. Sound like BT Engineer just knock on my door too softy and walk away. After complaints to my ISP, they aware of my deafness and say BT Engineer should use a front doorbell and had chase it up for my behalf and apology and later the charged fee had been abolished because it the Engineer to blame for not using my doorbell.

Went to see my assembly member in one of her surgeries three weeks ago.

You can complaint to BT Openreach Liv Garfield, Chief Executive: [email protected]

I've dropped Liv a mail about Cab 8 ;)

Had a reply already:-

Thanks, I am sorry for the delays, but having read the chain we have tried our hardest as you can see.

I am afraid that we wont be able to fast track this one but we will endeavour to keep making progress.

The team will be doing their best to enable if at all possible.

I am sorry this is disappointing news, but unfortunately with such a complex civils programme issues do occasionally arise

oh well it was worth a shot ;)

Sent openreach an email and got a response back saying my cabinet wasn't economically viable but my county had applied for funding. Turns out they have a website which says it should be available early next year!

What i find strange is why is the customer having to do the chasing BT should be doing this or how ever the ISP is. Openreach seem to get away with murder, you take days off work and they don't show thats ok but the other way round they make you to know their will be £100 charge. The ISP's need to get on this and start complaining as Openreach seem the cowboys of the wildwest doing what ever and when ever they want!

Aye...

Just check mine on OpenReach Superfast, and exactly the same change :).

Same here!

I hope they do actually mean September though.

I've never looked into FTTC products but is it a safe move to change to BT or use a slightly more expensive provider like Xilo for FTTC? I currently use Xilo for my 21CN needs. Lastly, am I stuck with the HomeHub if I do go with BT or can I stick login credentials into another Fibre router?

Had an email back and they have said
"In your locality work is ongoing and the estimated date for lemington cabinet 20 enablement is close August 2013 assuming there are no issues. Any engineering date quoted is at best an estimate and will be subject to change depending on local issues and conditions"

anyone got any ideas how likely they are at being on time?

Plusnet are chasing Openreach for me, but its stupid that there is no direct channel for communication between the customer and the engineer provider. I've had 2 different reasons given for why he never showed, and they are going to rebook another appointment free of charge as a favour. A favour my arse, its an expectation!

Oh yeah thats because they are doing it for free isn't it? What planet do they live on! You pay for a service and expect it to be done if it's not then some sort of customer easing to be going on ie discount vouchers or something its the ISP that should be doing that as Openreach is their contractor so they are responsible for you, then the two could argue till the cows come home once the customer is sorted. This whole Openreach thing is a shambles.

I heard someone say the engineer went through a pipe emergency plumber called out but no way of complaining about openreach not even the ISP BT had a way of complaining just seems like Openreach are unregulated and untouchable!?

Swansea, Kingsbridge.
Thanks

I emailed Superfast cymru last night too and got a reply today.

Mr Danny091

We can confirm from the deployment plans that your postcode area is within scope of the Superfast-cymru programme and cabinet 14 on the Ruabon exchange will be enabled for fibre. Due to ongoing planning activities there is not a confirmed date for the work to be carried out. The project is a partnership between the Welsh Government and BT which will boost commercial roll-out to deliver high speed fibre broadband to 96% of homes and businesses in Wales by 2016. The programme will reach far beyond urban premises and will provide fibre broadband to rural communities across Wales.
If you haven’t already done this then please register your interest on the website which will provide you with the most up to date information about Superfast Cymru within your area. We would encourage you to register your interest on the website in order to recieve up to date progress of roll-out in your area.

Dunno about that I have to admit that when you do get through to the head of BT or OpenReach they seem to be fairly self regulating and will get thing sorted I agree its a complete shambles that is the only way to resolve things that often are fairly basic customer service complaints and until you take it right to the top they pretty much get away with anything.

Thanks

Well, you are going to get it eventually....better late than never.
2016 is a long way away. I would still chase it for updates.

When I spoke to superfast Wales, they said it may take two years to get my cabinet done, although they said I was in the plans to get it.

After talking to my AM, I'm getting it in six months time, confirmed.

waiting on a openreach engineer this morning to install the fibre, hope they dont cancel :(
my o2 ADSL is still connected,im thinking thats not a good sign ?

My new flat is literally the next building to the exchange yet our cabinet has been deemed uneconomical to upgrade to fibre and therefore is not being upgraded! I fail to understand how a cabinet that is right next to the exchange is uneconomical to upgrade! Any suggestions on pursuing this issue?

My guess would be your bottom of the pile to be upgraded as your ADSL signal should be pretty damn good anyway. You must currently be maxing out at the full 24mbit if your right next to the exchange? Are you definitely connected to a cabinet or directly to the exchange?

I thought it could also be down to the % of uptake on that cabinet.

Drop an email to [email protected] and ask them about your cabinet, they can take a while to respond and didn't get back to me for 10 days. As I found out from them your council may have sought funding. https://www.gov.uk/broadband-delivery-uk#funding Click on the funding allocations link and it should tell you more and even possibly a link to the broadband project your council is planning. I found out from there that my exchange is listed as early next year

Our Sky ADSL is very good granted and we easily achieve 2.2MB down and 1.1MB up. We are definitely connected to a cabinet rather than EO. In fact I think our cabinet is located on the ground floor at the back of the block in a locked room.
