Burnout Paradise - The Ultimate Box

Twiddle your thumbs while waiting for it to download, or dare I suggest do something productive, I have lots of uni work to be doing right now..

I'm at 27% with about an hour to go.

fairly sure that from what i have seen & read at various "sources" you DO NOT require an official version to play online. (NOTE - i am not encouraging or saying you should do it!!!)

Various sites are saying that you will have people playing online with cracked copies as there is no online protection

I hope this is not the case.

This is a game published by E.A were talking about, off all the publishers who would do something as stupid as this, E.A is not one of them :)

I regard EA as one of the worst publishers around. For starters, their newer games (eg. Mirror's Edge, Mass Effect) are available all around the world on Steam, except for the UK. A few miles across the river in Ireland, you can buy EA games on Steam, but over here, we can't.

I know bashing EA is the 'in' thing to do, but by god do they deserve it.

uvmain - I think (maybe) you misunderstood what I was trying to say going by what you quoted?

I was saying that it would be "Unlike" EA as a publisher to allow online play with ZERO verification, this would go against all their previous releases anyway.

On this occassion, I believe it would be wrong if they didnt.

A|Z to accelerate and brake arrows to turn but you can remap them when you press esc and f2 for 2 times :) and u need to hold the accelerator for car to start first

i didin't liked the game at the start but after some races, stunts, takedown etc it's pretty fun been playing for atleast 5hrs now :)

haha its very addictive isnt it ..

for those with control problems press ESC > F1 or F2 to cycle through the options.. you can find controls in there ..

happy crashes !!

Just finished playing the official 30 min limited demo. Reinforces my earlier opinions thats its a budget release at best.

Gfx are shockingly poor in places. Your car has plenty of details & polygons all the others look very poor & some even look square where they should be round which is because they did not use enough polygons to keep the FPS up. That and the low res textures everywhere is why it runs so smoothly. Its not actually a good PC port at all just a bland console game transferred onto stronger hardware so that gives you the false impression its a good technical port when its so lacking in detail any PC from the last 2-3 years will easily run it. Gfx are worse than NFS Most Wanted and thats almost 4 years old now. Gameplay is so boring after you have played it for 10-15 mins you have pretty much seen all it has to offer. No variety whatsoever. This will not sell well on the PC at all as most PC gamers are more demanding than console only gamers and expect much more for their money.

Criterion should stick to the consoles in future as the PC deserves more than this for full price its so bad I doubt pirates will even waste the bandwidth on it.

ehh some people... when developers do very good gfx with high textures etc etc they cry about performance when they make game run on most pc's with ease so they can sell it and have more people enjoying it the same people complain about low res etc etc... im happy with gfx as they look nice what i care about is game play i still play nfsu2 nfsu gtavc gta 3 etc and gfx are 10x more bad than this.. it's game play that matters not gfx.. :/

I've only played for an hour, but it's definitely good fun, and very much in the same vein as the previous Burnout games. The only thing that seems to be missing (unless I just haven't figured it out) is drifting, which is what made the others so much fun.

Playing with my PS2 controller :D

MY GOD this thread is full of graphics over gameplay idiots.

When has burnout EVER been about the graphical superiority? Its all about speed and crashing and good old fashioned gameplay. People in here seem to have forgotten that games are meant to entertain you and not just look nice.

If what you look for in a game is great graphics, then you are in the wrong place, actually, your in the wrong forum, isnt there a Movies forum on here? Leave the GAMES discussion to those who understand GAMEPLAY...

*tbh, i dont know why im even bothering to waste my breath... graphics whores will stay graphics whores forever, constantly slating games based upon screenshots alone, its just one of those facts of life...

Anyway, back on point, does anyone know when the free trial is out?

I feel I have to reply to this:

The gameplay is rubbish too, it doesn't have anything near nice handling, it doesn't even have a speed meter for christs sake, when I keep going in a straight line flatout I keep hearing gear changes as if the cars have 20 gears... It's simply need for speed MW without the cops and tuning but with crashes, quite rubbish ones too I might add, I haven't seen such poor physics in a long while. And since when does your handbrake stop you faster than a normal brake ?
Finally, we moan about graphics because we think we deserve better than a game made for the inferior trash GPU's in the consoles. We don't have geforce 7900's and x1800xt's any more, we have GTX 295's and HD4780X2. We don't want to wait for graphics to go forward until a new console has been released, we don't want to stick to the sameish graphics for 4 damn years, because let's face it, since the 360 has been out, graphics in games have barely improved. While the consolers have been raving about 720p, we can play at 2560x1600...

It's not a bad game, but as a pc game it's just under average, we expect higher standards than your average game on the console. I see no reason why anyone should go to this is he has Flatout 2 ( superior physics, crashes & same gfx level imo) and NFS:MW ( which is no worse than Burnout Paradise imo). I mean take the world in Burnout, It's absolutely tiny and it's not exactly detailed either, it's a small step up from TDU in the details in the city while being, I don't know, like 200 times smaller ?

Although I don't agree with some of your harsher comments regarding the graphics, I agree that it feels like a budget release. Actually, I'd say it feels like the multiplayer component of a bigger game.

The last Burnout game I played was probably on the PS2, and I remember enjoying that. Years later, and I'd sort of expect that we'd have that same single player component, with this as the online part.

Thinking about it, Test Drive Unlimited did the free roaming single player/online racer much better than this.
