Good to see Merc reliability holding up so far. They have always been there to mop up the lost points from the Red Bull's and Ferrari's breaking.
I would love it if merc keep in touch by picking up these 3rd and 4ths when red bull and ferrari drop points then sort the car and have a good final 8-10 races and nick one of the championships at the end.

At the end hamilton was keeping in touch with max and Carlos and was there is there was a mistake or coming together. The car does look like it's improving slowly. Looked like he and George settled for their positions with about 5 laps to go

I think its quite conceivable that they could get 2nd in the constructors, and maybe even a driver in 3rd or 4th in the driver's championship if their reliability holds up.

7 second gap over 15 laps - still a fair performance delta

Average race

Max untouchable really. Don't think Sainz had the talent on him.

Pleased for Lewis' podium. Still groaned when he had a 9 second gap to Russell and then the safety car came out...if Merc kept Russell out for bit longer he likely would have lucked into leapfrogging Lewis again!

I wonder if the end might have been more interesting without the safety car to see if Sainz had the tyres left to keep Max at bay. Although, it was gift to Leclerc who got some extra vital points because of it.

Mclaren's attempted double stack pit was hilarious to watch. Needed Benny Hill music.

And....

Lol at Alonso
Did sort of get the impression Merc brought George in soon after to ensure this didn't happen with the high likelyhood of SC at Canada, but it also ensured they wouldn't lose out in any short VSC where people behind may have been nicely placed to come in before they got a chance to get round as they had 3rd and 4th pretty much nailed by that point.

Will be interesting to see where Merc are at Silverstone, they couldn't ask for somewhere more pan flat with no need to ride any kerbs. Presume that most of their effort is in the suspension area now as this is where they're losing out, RBR have got something funky going on to be able to have that lovely softly sprung car whilst still being able to keep the underfloor working.

It's good to see Hamilton get P3 and hopefully they can work on the porpoising, I think the only way Mercedies can get the championship is either from Ferrari and RB engine failures. is it just me but i just don't like Max? he reminds me of Vettel when he was all cocky and a cry baby. I hope that Charles leclerc can sort their engine issues out and those shoddy pit stops.

Given that the wind tunnel / testing restrictions are based on your WCC position, would it actually benefit Merc to finish third so that they get more development capacity in the closed season and (hopefully) resolve their issues?

I think with George, they could either gamble on another safety car (not all that likely), or play it safe and pit him whilst the there was a big enough gap to only drop behind Lewis but stay in front of the rest.

I'm not sure they did it due to Hamilton. I think they just played it safe and took the opportuinity whilst they had a big window to the other teams. It almost garaunteed 3rd and 4th for Merc regardless of what happened.

After expressing how "so, so happy" he was to finally have a good weekend, Hamilton half-joked that "maybe the second half of the season George can do the experiments"

Max deserves the championships this year though.
Nah. If Leclerc can rally back and put him under pressure in the last few races we'll soon see mad Max back in action. He loses his **** when a pit stop puts him out of position, let alone when racing for the title. As last year showed.
is it just me but i just don't like Max?
lol. The problem F1 is going to have is that they seem to want to have a new golden boy, not realising that literally everybody hates Max. He's a terrible role model, he's arrogant, he's no personality apart from being a bully (runs in the family), he races dirty... the list goes on. Compare him to Leclerc and I know who'd I like to be the new generation's poster boy for F1.

You can't blame him! If they lock in the car and gain 0.5sec he'll be well in the hunt. Nice to see him sounding optimistic.

Sidenote, I've never been to an F1 race before but what are the crowds like. Re. the whole 2021 debacle are we going to get a lot of British fans trolling Verstappen? People waving flags saying 'Lewis = 8, Max = 0' that sort of thing? Just wondering :p

Surprised how much he moaned yesterday when he came out behind Hamilton. Hope Ferrari sort themselves out and have a good set of results over the next 4 races. The RBR will have more reliability woes looking at what they've done this season, but they need to put Max under pressure so he can't just ease the car back every race.

It's based upon the place at half way through the season too isn't it?

It 'resets' on June 30th based on constructors position

Ah, so they are going to make sure they’re 3rd at the end of the month and then miraculously solve all their issues, go into beast mode for the second half of the season and be unstoppable next year. :D
