Canon 7D mk2 Thread

Was hoping for better in image quality

I don't do video
I will not use GPS
Unless I missed it No flip screen (use a lot in macro)

Was really hoping this was going to be my upgrade from my 60D
In hindsight I should have picked nikon from the start with the d7100

Maybe I should just get the 70d used

I agree, the new 7D MKII looks like a small bump upgrade.

To be fair it's hardly a "small bump upgrade".

Big AF upgrade - better than the 1DX & 5D3.
Dual-pixel AF
RGB metering from 1DX
Spot metering linked to AF point
Dual card slots (with SD UHS-1, better than the 5D3)
Better Auto-ISO as per 5D3
Wide/Tele AF micro-adjustment
Higher FPS
USB3

That's a pretty good list of improvements in my book, bringing it in line with the 5D3 and surpassing it in some areas.

More of a baby 1DX as it inherits more of the 1DX attributes e.g. focusing system, metering, fps.

It has features in common with both to be fair - the metering and fps are akin to the 1DX but the body itself and CF/SD slots are as per the 5D3. The focusing on the 1DX and 5D3 are all but identical and the 7D2 improves on both :)

Aye the 5d3 still wins in the image quality department but if you're after any kind of sports/wildlife/action camera then this definitely looks to be the top choice. It would look more at home on the end of my 200-400mm compared to my 70d :E

The 1DX was launched in Oct 2011 so 3 year old AF isn't much to get excited about. The exciting part is that it's now available at a budget price. Or it will be once the price drops below RRP.

Not sure about better AF outside of video/live view (which is what dual-pixel is for iirc) although more cross points (65?) are very welcome. It's also missing a dedicated processor for tracking and metering functions although dual digic 6 may negate the need for this. It is to the 1DX what the 7D was to the MarkIV. It'll be interesting to see how the 1DX's successor stacks up (12 months away?).

The clincher will be ISO performance.

I agree it's more than a small upgrade.

Why wouldn't it be worth getting excited about? You think a £1600 camera should have better AF than a £4k camera? Or you think the 1Dx focus is nothing special? :\

spot metering linked to the active af point is a big one (for canon users any way). Shame i'm not in the market for a crop sensor camera...hopefully the 5d iv will have that feature as well though.

if it was £600 then maybe your onto something but the price is VERY close to a 5d3

And in some respects it's better than the 5d3 but ultimately they're different cameras for different purposes so I'm not sure why people keep comparing them?

The 5d3 was £2299 and the 6d was £1799 on release so £1599 doesn't seem like a bad release price to me

No it isn't. The UK price for a 5DIII is still £2200 ish body only and this is £1600 AT LAUNCH, the 5DIII has been around for a couple of years. £600 difference isn't very close.

They're different bodies for different uses anyway.

The 7D2 basically tells us what the 5D4 will be I reckon.

It'll get the new AF and metering systems plus dual-pixel focusing. The sensor will be an incremental improvement with possibly a couple more megapixels and slightly better noise performance.

I like that they've added the joystick to the BG-E16 grip, as with the BG-E11. I adore this addition and using my 7D in portrait annoys the hell out of me now :)

i think 5d4 will be a 36mp camera

quite close. your spending near 2k. o some may be able to save an extra month or two to get a FF one if they like that more.

the main difference between these two is that ones FF and ones crop and faster.

It depends what you shoot.

I and many others could do sports on a 5D3's 6fps. Toggers from 30+ years have done so in much slower camera's :)
