Canon 7D mk2 Thread

quite close. your spending near 2k. o some may be able to save an extra month or two to get a FF one if they like that more.

the main difference between these two is that ones FF and ones crop and faster.

It depends what you shoot.

I and many others could do sports on a 5D3's 6fps. Toggers from 30+ years have done so in much slower camera's :)

£1600 isn't 'nearly' £2300 lol :P Those are release prices

It could be true, but then so could the rumour for a new 100-400 replacement, which has been running twice a year for over 10 years.

Some 7D MKII high ISO samples. Looks pretty good :)

Yeah I'd posted the link above. I'm waiting for RAW files and reviews. The level of speculation and people pushing the images they can find in PP for 5 stops is mental!

Glad they did not go for wifi/gps/ swivel screen There a clear decision to be made here between weather sealing/ ruggedness and features.

A lot of people care more for a sturdy weather resistant camera over consumer orientated features. The 6D has to have a plastic upper to allow for the GPS and Wifi. Used the Wifi once or twice on my 6D, turned the GPS of almost straight away as its such a battery drain and I don't really need GPS tagging

It has GPS :P

I don't know why people seem to have a problem with swivel screens? If I had a choice between an flip out screen and a regular screen of equal toughness an weatherproofing then I'd pick the swivel screen every time. Same with touchscreen...

I think weatherproofing the swivel parts would be possible but I'm not sure how tough you can make a touchscreen when it's the same technology as a mobile phone.

In a way it seems odd to have new video features without the great feature of 'touch to focus' for video :/

When I bought my old 60D I thought the swivel screen was just a gimmick but it came in very useful for macro stuff, and shots when I was in cramped spaces. That being said, I didn't use it much, but if it came with a camera at no extra cost it wouldn't bother me a bit, especially as you just rotate it around to lock in as a standard display. Add to that, it allows you to protect it when not in use, so overall I'd prefer it for that reason alone.

Touchscreen does seem to be a gimmick as far as still photography, but I could see a use if doing video. Personally I'm not overly keen on cameras crossing over to video, I think they should do separate models for these things, but only if it reduced the cost of the still camera. Because that's what I want :D

As for GPS and wifi, I REALLY do not see a need to have geo tagging on your images, especially at the cost of battery life. If you're desperate for that, buy an external device. I'd have thought wifi would be more handy with the the top end cameras and the 7D type cameras, as I could see those users wanting to transmit images to remote storage for immediate processing or backup on the fly.

Still, what do I know? :D

Yeah GPS doesn't really rate for me but I can see it being useful to some people. I like the way this time the GPs cords and the heading are recorded but I probably won't use it unless I'm ever exploring a jungle or something lol.

The touchscreen really isn't a gimmick after having used it. As per what you said, it's handy being able to see what you're shooting from awkward angles with a swivel screen but with the touchscreen, you can just tap what you want to focus too. It's also nice when reviewing images as you can use the same pinch zoom and swipe features that you do on your phone to check images. Yeah you can play doom with just a keyboard but why wouldn't you use a mouse if you can? :D

I navigate through most of the menus via buttons but I do find myself touching certain functions instead of cycling through all the buttons on the screen. Touchscreen is too much of a good feature to ignore.

It really-really is, for the reasons you state.. tap to focus for video is something I could not live without now... I would have no reason to give the 7D mkii a second thought over the 70D. My personal hankering is for a full frame companion instead... just for stills.
