*** Car Wash / Valet / Detailing Thread ***

@Janesy B
That Focus ST looks a lovely place to be.

Really nice to see your interior deep cleans, I tend to do the exact same thing regularly.

A quick hover doesn't always cut it for me!

I can’t find the post but I’m convinced you once posted a Halfords deal on AutoFinesse Satin for £4 many years ago.

I bought 3 and still have plenty left over, it’s a lovely tyre dressing which I use during the summer.

Yes I remember. I also like that tyre cream, a nice silky finish. I bought 1 bottle and still have half left.

What tyre dressing do you use for the harsher months?

Usually Meguires Tyre Gel or Autoglym Tyre Gel

I find the above during summer can become tacky and encourage dust/debris to stick to the sidewall.

Where as in winter it just seems to last the longest, even after the initial shine has worn off you can still see the dressing is there.

I've had two bottles of Meguiars gel leak on me, horrible stuff to wash off your hands. Use Carpro Perl 1:1 now, don't mind that it doesn't last as long tbh.

Both products aren’t particularly nice to work with, quite messy and needs its own applicator.

I like Carpro Perl - I’m tempted to try Stjarnagloss Gummi before revisiting Perl.

So many good products about not sure Halfords would be on my radar tbh.

Something I’ve been thinking about recently. I have far too many bottles of products that I’ll probably never use. Perhaps we could have a giveaway facility, for those that perhaps would like to try a bit of detailing but can’t justify spending much money on products that they may not use much?

Last of the orders came through today so I've gone and updated the picture as I'm sad like that.

I don't want to tally up what I've spent this month... just roll on some good weather so I can get cracking.

I have two sheds full of stuff. :o :(

A word of caution on the Graphene stuff - the liquid max wax went on easily and buffed off fine (by hand). The flex wax not so much, it was a bit grabby and more difficult to remove. Better to use it on a slightly wet car, or use a damp microfibre to help remove it.

All good otherwise though.

Yeah good tip. That's the way I used Sonax. Plan is to use the Max Wax as the base and then top up with the flex every wash as a drying aid.

I have no use for the 1 and done compound so will be putting 2 bottles of that for sale.

Edit... I remembered I have a light coloured roof so will keep a bottle for that. And offload a Max wax and and a 1 and done.

i see Halfords have got a new range out and also carry Rag Company stuff too now :)

so is the Halfords advance stuff any good ?

Too expensive, £10 for 500ml of pre wash when you can get 1l of Surfex HD for the same price and can make 10-20 litres of it even at the high end of the dilution recommendations.

So gurus, a little pointer required if you don't mind..

I've been toying with the idea of buying a DA for a while but the paint on my car , even though its 8 years old, is really good and doesn't "really" need it.... however my son went and bought a 3yr old seat ibiza last week and in the sun theres lots of swirls... so just the excuse I was looking for to get a DA :-)

Was thinking of the DA8 from in2detailing, but could you recommend a 1 stage polish and suitable pad(s).. also how do you clean the pads ?? Was thinking of scholl s20

Both cars are dark coloured if that makes any difference.

Cheers

Have a look at Menzerna's offerings. Good prices, good products.

Just spotted this, looks just what I want..

I’ve had

For a while now and been really happy with it.

.. also how do you clean the pads ??
bucket of warm soapy water , and squishing it by hand, rinse in cold and run in machine to throw off rest.

sonus pads I have are all 7" dia .. if you could get a machine that might accept small pads too, that would help with access on small bodywork areas

I've used mine for stainless parts of kitchen coffee machine ... cooker hood might be next candidate. (engineered floors ?)

I started the day with the intention of getting the polishing machine out and ceramic coating the ST but stuff got in the way so it just ended up with a hand polish and spray wax. All ready for a car show on Sunday where it'll probably get filthy on the drive there...

- BH Touchless pre wash
- Garage Therapy Decon Shampoo sprayed on with foam canon and then washed with the same shampoo to strip the old coatings off
- Autobrite Direct Just the Tonic tar remover
- Garage Therapy Iron remover
- Farecla G3 clay mitt
- BH Touchless again just to get rid of all the chemicals used
- Poorboy's Black Hole
- Fusso Coat Speed & Barrier - claims 6 months protection which feels a bit optimistic
- Tyres dressed with CarPro Perl
