Cities Skylines 2 is Official!

@233 It's definitely not an excuse for an update unless you bin the game and just play everything else, because at 4k even with a 4090 and a 13900K you're still going to be lagging.
Except that’s over exaggerated.

Auto saves cause stuttering as it saves, if you set them to every 2 mins you are going to get it every 2 mins. See them to 30 mins and you don’t even notice.

This isn’t a faced paced shooter, you can barely notice the low frame rates (e.g. down to 30) unless you insist on zooming the camera around well beyond the speed you’d normally do it to practice your counter strike 180 no scope headshots.

Edit: has anyone else disabled the day/night cycle? I found it made building in the dark a pain in the rear.

Started my second city last night and running in to some of the same problems as the first - most importantly is seemingly unable to start making a profit and the gaps between levelling up become such that I'm heading towards bankruptcy again. Watching a few guides, it seems people are resorting to some in depth pop manipulation by, for example, going through the whole commercial district and bulldozing business with educated staff to get them into the industries that can better make money.

I expect some of it is my inexperience with CS as I have, at max, probably only 100 hours in CS1. Maybe a loan is the answer like @PaulC2K to try and build up to a more profitable city. Though I'm thinking I might have to start some more in depth tweaks to get through the early levels.

@b0rn2sk8 Yes, cities look nice at night but it's almost impossible to try and build anything. I do wish there was a darkness slider rather straight up disabling the day/night cycle.

@b0rn2sk8

Not over exaggerated given performance reports of 20fps at 4k, because you don't need high framerate doesn't mean 20fps is acceptable on a 4090.

At the moment anyway I can play fine as at home have my 4080 system that I stream to my ally so all is good there, just was hoping to be able to play it in my holidays next month and at Christmas on my Ally as will be away from home, so hoping a patch will improve performance by then but not looking hopeful. I may have to give GeForce Now a go.

I do not know how to disable D/N Cycle but it's insanely difficult to built at night indeed.

I'm really struggling with the terraforming, and how RCI build plots just completely carve into the landscape. It's making for either really ugly builds, or hours of frustration with the landscaping tools...........

Other than that, I'm enjoying it. Performance is OK on 3900x and 3090FE.

Yea as much as I want to cave and get stuck in, I'm going to give it a while, 6 months, a year maybe and hope it'll be in a better state.

I loved Kerbal Space Program for example, but held off on the second and I'm glad I did, unfortunately it's looking like that one isn't going to take off - pun slightly intended hoho.

I want to see what the situation is going to be with the mods now that they are not going to be on the workshop. I hope it all works out as I love these type of games.

The people playing it now are alpha testing it basically

Always room for some hyperbole by those who have watched some clickbait youtube instead of actually playing the game.

Putting performance to the side for a second, the game is perfectly playable and there seems to very few actual bugs. The only one I've come across is the money showing as you're losing it per month while actually making money. Outside of that, there's a few niggles such as buildings conforming to topology or the news on the radio or pops on the in game Twitter moaning about things that aren't an issue (like pollution even when it's mile away or electricity shortages when you're overproducing and selling excess) but they don't actually stop the game working or in any way effect gameplay as pop happiness doesn't decrease.

Performance is the BIG issue with the game but equally it isn't as bad as some people make it out to be. Sure you can't get more than 20-30fps at 4k with everything on and set to high even on a 4090 but a) very few (none?) similar games with this level of simulation can run at the res and fps so it's a little unrealistic to expect CS2 to do so and b) running 1080p or 1440p with a few settings off you get mediocre to good fps even on lower end hardware. Is that ideal? No. Does it make the game unplayable like a lot of people claim? Also no.

I can't seem to make money on this game, no matter how many residential zones I create! I'm down 300k a month atm :D

I tried it this morning before the patch, was 10 fps in menus and 20ish in game, I'll go get it now and see if any difference, that's on a 7800x3d, 4090 etc
