Cities Skylines 2 is Official!

Education seems to be really important for the long term health of the economy. Don’t hold off getting your college and university up and running.

One small oddity is that my elementary schools are rammed, I’ve got loads of them. Two high schools are basically empty and then my college is nearly full.

I’ve just plopped my university down (bye low density houses ) not sure what impact that’s having yet.

I’d had to drop the settings down to medium as I got up to 35k population, it was getting a bit choppy on my 5900X/3080 set up on high.

So legit, does this game run as bad as reviewers and nay sayers say it does? Im kinda tempted to buy it
It doesn’t run at 60fps on highest settings 1440p unless you have a 4080/3090 type card or better (new patch helped apparently, but hasn’t come to GamePass yet so above statement is likely outdated). VRAM is just as important as the GPUs grunt. Then everything else is kinda irrelevant.

I’m playing on a 4090, got 80fps 1440p maxed out, but locked fps to 30 after 2-3 days.

For those who have played this do concerns like this one posted over at Steam seem valid...?

I have noted a few posts mention that there also seems to be much less traffic on the roads to manage compared to that of CS1...?
Yeah, there’s a few things absent like this, I’m sure they’ll get done eventually. One of the reasonable criticisms has been the lack of variety in assets, but on launch day they announced theres a free 2500 (iirc) regional asset pack coming containing styles for UK, France, Germany, Japan, east & west coast America, and somewhere else I think.
So they’re far from done with it, plus DLC and community packs, and mods should be coming soon.

Traffic seems lighter, but I’ve also had my city in gridlock at/around 30k and had to address it. Pathfinding is broken imo, it’s supposed to be better but it’s clearly flawed still. I’ve watched cars come off the highway on the left off-ramp and join a short queue and then turn (on a ‘no right turn’) and go past the right off-ramp exit! Also seen them come off at the first junction where traffic is jammed to travel across the map when later highway junctions were closer to the destination and were clear.

Im running a 4090 as well, how come you locked to 30 fps?

Thanks, I had noted about the lack of assets and the up and coming localisation packs. Whilst comparing to the vanilla experience when launched, CS 1, might be similar, with not so much in the way of variety, that at least can be added over time, even if at some point they are part of a paid DLC. Mods (assets) should help massively with that.
It is the relative emptiness that concerns me, the animation details that are just missing, I am doubting their inclusion at a later point. Not just adding people to park but the animation that has been reduced from the public service side etc.
The pathfinding, hopefully, might get some attention soon, no doubt crashing and performance issues being towards the top of things they are working on.
I did read of some cars that were being blocked by a road crash would teleport to their destinations, not sure if common or repeatable. But things like that can be ongoingly addressed.
At this point I'm happy enough to sit it out for a little while to let it develop a little more.
It will be interesting if they release an update type of roadmap as to their intent of expectations following this launch. IIRC the mods aspect was due for mid 2024, not sure where I read that, or noted it in an early video..?

This game is missing a ton of stuff that cities skylines had at launch, or is my memory wrong?

I wonder if the corp making the game has money troubles, ity's crazy basic right now.

even the policies you can implement seem super light weight place holder

I think your memory is wrong.

Even vanilla CS1 has loads more in it now than it did on release. Every time they released a DLC, they added a few bits to the vanilla game for free.

What do you think is obviously missing?

I can think of one thing, cycling but then we have a lot of new stuff in the game.

Simply to reduce the heat it’s pushing out. I’ve never really had much of an issue with viewing low frames in general, but I guess it’s dependent on the game, I don’t notice the difference between 60 & 120 frame etc.

We have a DLC roadmap thanks to Ultimate edition, but a core feature roadmap would be useful.
When asked about how long to mod launch, one of the community staff said ‘days’, however that might not be complete, but I took it to mean 2-3wk. That was just before release.

I’m guessing the modders with access are under NDAs, but i’d love to know what mods they’re working on, and what sort of features they now have available that they couldn’t do previously. Are they mostly remaking old mods, or working on completely new ideas.

I think it's more that Paradox will likely roll it out as DLC, they put more than any other company I know into their games.

the obvious ones I’m missing is move it and traffic manager.

I’ve noticed you also can’t demolish a modular building add on, if you build it in the wrong place, you have to demolish the whole thing and replace it.

Just fired it up and I can't play at the 32fps I am getting, it feels far too jittery and makes me feel uncomfortable haha - I am on gamepass so hopefully this recent update makes it's way to me soon so I can give it another whirl.

I just have loads of demand of low residential, I have a fair amount zoned. If I zone medium/town houses they just won’t move into them :(
Yep, I've got the same issue. Also got an issue where my industry and commercial are making very little profit so I'm getting no tax money out of them - which is running me into the ground.
Commercial demand is consistently high, yet existing commercial is all complaining about lack of customers.
Industry demand is high, yet I look and see a bunch of the builds have zero staff so aren't even running.

Glancing around Reddit, there's inconsistent guidance all over the place. Some people are saying these things are bug, others suggesting it's down to not understanding the mechanics - but not see any evidence to back this one up so far!

Yah same here! Lack of customers but huge demand for commercial.

One thing i forgot to mention yesterday was that theres definitely something funky about cargo terminals (presumably both boat & train, maybe planes too?). I dont fully understand what the issue is, but i noticed yesterday that there were a lot of complaints about mail, the overall happiness didnt highlight it, but checking individual buildings it was a common issue. When checking the mail overlay i was satisfying about 20% of the demand, might not have even been that, and i'd plonked down a couple of post offices earlier to deal with it and it hadnt made a dent. When i checked the various post offices, they had 0/30 vans out, or 3/30 etc.

It turns out the mail is being delivered to the cargo depots and stacking up there. I dont know whether its trains delivering mail from outside, or the postal vans delivering it there to be sent out, but what i'd read was that these cargo locations stockpile TONS of mats and its sitting there instead of getting sold.

So my city was being hammered because either my citizens werent getting their mail, or it wasnt being sent out. The only solution was to wipe them, taking thousands of tons of goods that was stored there (most items had 400-300 tons each, about 20 items). I suspect i'll also see an impact on traffic as everything has to be done by road now, rather than by rail at the depots next to my industrial hubs.

So if you've got some sort of cargo destination for exporting, its likely stockpiling mats, businesses arent getting local goods (mats have fixed price + delivery costs, so closer is cheaper) and having to import them, and so their profits are slashed and tax is pennies.

Demand definitely seems funky. I’m up to a 20k population and still have constant demand for low density with the occasional spike in medium. Though the medium density eventually gets abondoned. However I’ve had no demand for high density or for any offices. So it’s basically a massive spread of low density housing with a small area of industry.

Regarding the commercial demand but lack of customers. I seemed to have delayed that by only putting commercial around my medium density but now running in to the problem as I don’t really have any more room around my medium density.

Re offices make sure you have enough university education and drop the office tax rate down a bit. As long as you have surplus uni educated citizens then it should drive office demand
