Cities Skylines 2 is Official!

Paradox will be having their own mod repository but even so getting it on Steam will still be the safest option when it comes to mods, thats why I've already preordered it on Steam (£25 from cdkeys)
Standard edition? I feel like the premium version annoyingly has some things that are worth while like bridges

Yeah Standard Edition, premium has some stuff but all of that will be attainable without having to have the premium anyway, either by individual dlc purchase or by mods.

The only thing thats exclusive to Premium is the San Fran set, all the other parts you'll be able to buy individually, and potentially for less if you dont want things like radio stations and/or wait till theres a sale to pick them up.

Looking at the prices on Steam for CS1 content:
Radio Stations = £3.39 (x3)
Creator Contents = £4.99 (x2)
DLC Packs = £6.99-12.79 (x1)
San Fran set = ?? (includes SF map, 6 vehicles, the GG bridge and a Muscle Car garage).

So unless you care about that SF set, which feels like everything could be added by mods anyway, you're not losing out really.

CDKeys has them at £26 base & £46 premium, so really it needs to have £20 worth of content to justify it. Assuming they stick with the current DLC pricing (and they might not) I looks like theres less than £5 saved, plus the SF set. I have music muted in 95% of games, so that basically eliminates any saving to me.

Ok end of October cool.

Whilst I think it is "ok" I don't think Starfield is going to keep me interested for too much longer so might be a good one to jump on.

I haven't properly played CS for a good few years now but did really get into it for a while.

My only hesitation is that it'll be tons better 6 months after release, and possibly cheaper (particularly on cd keys) so logic says you should wait but I dunno, gaming in general fir me is pretty dry might be a good one to get into.

That will definitely be the case, truth of it is that CS2 at release probably wont be as good as CS1 with mods currently is, but CS2 with mods will be much superior than CS1 with mods. So its going to be a question of how quickly mods like MoveIt and TMPE are transferred to CS2. My hope is that it wont take long at all for the mod creators to bring out CS2 versions.

A lot of the quality of life mods are already built into the game so the hope is that not as many mods will be needed to build out the functionality of the game.

Yeah thankfully they've implemented some, its just things like MoveIt, the advanced features of TMPE and contours that I will be particularly wanting

Unlikely, just like CS1 on game pass. The steam workshop is essential. Unless they have a separate facility this time.
You don't need it on steam to access the mod workshop, there are sites online that let you download the workshop mods so you can add them yourself. More faff though.
At least wrt CS1.

It's a lot more faff, and not everything is available or gets updated well etc.

It's just better on steam.

As has become a theme on this forum, has anyone managed to compare this with Cyberpunk, Starfield or Star Citizen yet? If not the thread has failed.
Ooh let me play !!

Right...ok..so it doesnt run at 10fps with full Raytracing on. Thats Cyberpunk covered

I can move around the map without having to have a load screen. Thats Starfield covered

The game actually has a release date. Thats Star Citizen covered.

Therefore, clearly, GOTY :D

Not sure if you watched their Live Stream just the other day? Last weeks they said it doesnt have contours, and then this weeks they showed it off. They had enough demand from those in chat, comments and likely some on other platforms that they were able to quickly throw it together and use it in the stream.
I thought it seemed such a minor but helpful addition, that doesnt really require complex code, integration into other systems or much bug testing etc to be a hard reason why it couldnt make their deadline.

Has anyone noticed monorail in any of these dev vids? I haven't and it doesn't show in the transport tree..
I think compared to CS1, theres few glaring omissions in CS2, like night and seasons, and they've integrated somewhat of a 'best bits' of CS1 into CS2, theres still big things like zoos & theme parks which will return, which IMO you cant do a basic version of without it being a zoo plopable etc, which is going to feel more like a downgrade than bringing it to CS2, whereas i think the basic gameplay of Industries seems to be present and improves upon CS1 vanilla industry.

Side note: I really wasnt impressed with what i saw of vanilla farming in one of the livestreams. You mark out an area for farming, and they just pop up randomly within that space. So you have this huge corn field and then theres a farmhouse with chicken etc in the middle. I'd have rather there be a volume limit for individual farms, and that become a pig farm, or crops, or whatever it be. Or at least have the same road requirement as RCI buildings. They should still need roads to get in & out, and the satisfaction of seeing large farms is gone when it dumps stables in there, it just looks odd.

Cyberpunk - Still havent played it (soon) but CS2 (hopefully) doesnt have cops that disappear when you turn your back on them.
Starfield - I dont love the load screens, im more bothered by the fact that the actual map is a bunch of dots!! Thanks Bethesda!
Star Citizen - We've got a release date for SQ42 though, end of 2016. What more do you want for $500m?? We're still in the crowd funding phase :D

Yeah I saw the stream, annoying though the two women are, was really happy to see contours have been added in. Makes a big difference when trying to lay your cities out nicely.

CS2 does have night and seasons, I've seen both on streams, though the night lighting was messed up (the lights were WAY too bright) and the seasons seemed to be very rough around the edges and to be fair, I've not seen the seasons shown again so maybe they ended up rolling that idea back.

Yeah, ive seen night & day, i just made a complete mess of explaining myself :D I meant CS1 had those 2 as glaring omissions.

Seasons seems rather unclear at the moment. The dev diaries talked about snow fall, but it feels like thats the only difference. Whether spring is just more rainfall, summer is clear & sunny, autumn/fall is... missing?, and winter has snow. I watched the first livestream last night and about a third of the second one too, and i think chat asked about why they werent seeing seasons (i dont think more than 3 months had passed in-game) and from the 2 doing the livestream, the one who seems like a grown up 6yo was talking all 'seasons are definitely in there guys, theres snow, and the trees leaves turn brown/orange', and im not sure if we got a 'this isnt a finished build' or something, but not long later there was some definite walking back of that statement without saying so. Like a "so yeah the seasons will have snow, and maybe trees will change, we'll see" type comment out of nowhere. The whole time it felt like she didnt know anything about the game tbh. I suspect in this case maybe she's seen fall as a WIP but it might not make release.
Im perfectly fine with minor things not making launch, and coming a little later within an update, but it'd be nice to not get mixed messages and just say 'we have snow, we're aiming to introduce seasons but it might not be in the launch release' etc.

Ahhh yeah that makes sense then with the night and day.

Yeah, both of those women were shockingly bad at presenting and barely interacted with chat at all. I can only think that the reason they were picked was to cater to any watching simps out there rather than for being able to present and explain the product
