City Fibre

Other than the slight blip of packet loss at the start I'm guessing this is a good quality graph?

You're unlikely to get better than that.

Just looked in my no one portal and they have changed the router they were sending from a TP-Link WiFi-6 Router EX230 to a Zyxel DX3301 WiFi 6 Router I preferred the black TP-Link it would have looked better on my table than this white Zyxel.

Now I am moving over to no one is the TP-Link WiFi-6 Router EX230 any good? I know it's not brilliant but it can't be as bad as VM's hub5 for Wi-Fi. We could get a decent connection all around the house with the hub5, but in the front bedroom above the living room where the hub5 was the signal was weaker than any other room in the house. This probably wasn't an hub issue more a firestick issue with it being 1st gen.

I'm using the one they provide (TP-Link WiFi-6 Router EX230) for a few months but if the Wi-Fi isn't that good I will be purchasing a 3 mesh kit been looking at a few got a budget of £150 no more because I will be getting a better router in the future. Anyone got any of these below and do they actually improve the signal worthy enough of the prices.

deco M4
deco E4
deco X10

Thanks

I use Deco X55 but have fitted an X10 for friends. They work great.

no one is installed very happy with the upload speed goodbye to Virgin.

Not tested wireless round the house yet will do this later.

Noticed router keeps dropping connection quite often is this something it does?

The ONT seems to be fine but the router keeps losing connection every 10/15mins which is a bit annoying.
Wired or wireless? What brand is it, is it possible it needs a firmware update? Have you changed the cable between the ONT and the router? Have you tried plugging in a laptop/PC directly into the ONT and dialling a connection and see if that drops?

Both wired and wireless disconnect for about 10 seconds then its back again.

The router is the zyxel dx3301 I haven't changed any cable its new and works perfectly fine tested it with VM for a few days and no problems at all.

I updated the firmware straight away because it was on the stock firmware. I will give it till tomorrow and if it keeps doing it I will give no one. a phone just to make sure the settings in the router are all fine. It only got installed this afternoon so will give it time.

Small edit

I left hub off last night but got up this morning and everything is working perfectly fine, it just took longer for provisioning.

webchatted vodafone just to ask them if vodafone provide an option for static ip address and if so does it cost anything.
the muppet replied back saying they have added static ip to my account and it doesnt cost anything extra and will take around 24 hours to become active.

now im gonna end up stuck with a static ip address which wasnt what i was asking for. i did check with them and they said i can revert back to dynamic ip so looks like another webchat in a few days time.....

Although I appreciate you didn't ask them to actually add it, why would you ask if it was an option if you weren't interested in having one? Google would have told you the answer much more quickly and without the need to brand someone a muppet simply because they tried to help you, and you chose not to correct it at the time. I mean, for Vodafone CS, that's actually amazingly good :D

I get English is not their main language but I got the transcript I could put it on here once I'm back on the main pc, it was just an info request to find out from them directly if the service is provided and if there is a cost involved.
How many of you guys have static IP and get issues over the long term with attempted network hacks etc? I liked the privacy option of rebooting the router for new IP address.

You control your risk profile and exposure I suppose someone could try and DDOS you, but the much more realistic threat vector is you or someone else downloads/runs something questionable, and at that point you have bigger issues.

I've had a static IP for what must be at least 10 years and never had any 'hacking' issues.

Even on a dynamic IP you'd be surprised at the amount of port scans and intrusion attempts. You're far better off keeping your router up to date and avoiding brands like Asus than bothering to worry about a static IP address.

At this stage, almost all large ISPs supply branded routers and push updates to supported hardware and will upgrade you to current supported hardware at renewal/as required. There are always a small minority of people who just keep paying the monthly fee without renewing or who don’t swap the new kit they are sent over that end up unsupported. The other exceptions tend to be the smaller providers or alt-nets. Factco for example gave me an older Deco, Airband should give me a Velop next week, the Deco can be set to auto update, and was by the installer, the Velop comes that way as standard. Yayzi (CF) gave me an Aginet HX220 which supports remote management/provisioning and updates.

In your case CF will push XGPON updates occasionally and Vodafone will push router updates for the foreseeable future.

Static IP got given today. They even emailed me with the IP address iv been assigned.
I like how they present the info as an order number etc hopefully I'm not at risk having static ip

That's better support than my old buffalo and draytek routers got in the past. After couple of years they got abandoned with updates. So I guess they can't improve any more and those were as secure as they were gonna get ?

I doubt it's better support than your Draytek, the main selling points of Draytek are they are boringly reliable and have stupidly long support life cycles, it was literally a case of 'nemo resideo' compared to other OEM's, that's why they are often found in small branch office/shop installs where nobody wants to go, unless they absolutely have to. Buffalo stopped making networking stuff in the early 5Ghz (ac) days iirc and the only time I ever saw them used was people flashing WRT/Tomato images to them where that was an option.

The draytek I had/still have was ADSL one. Found it in shed other day so it's still around.
