have now got the money sorted to buy a Intel Core 2 DUO Extreme Edition X6800 Gibbo is there any left First batch.

what is the best ram for this cpu? can anyone advise
I rang them at about 11am this morning they had sold 8. I'm still contemplating the cost, although I've got about £500 of hardware to sell so the upgrade wont cost me that much at all, so I may as well. . . :)

The CPU price isnt bad but DDR2 Overclockers Memory and half decent motherboards are way way too exspensive. £150 for a 975X board which is actually compatible is ridiculous.

You'll have an unlocked multiplier, so you can get away with just using PC2-5300 RAM...just keep the FSB anywhere between 266MHz and 333MHz.

11 x 333Mhz = 3.66GHz overclock, 12 x 333MHz = 3.99GHz etc.

As long as the RAM does 800MHz, is there much performance to be had from spending more for lower latencies?

Something like this good:
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C5 TwinX (2x1GB) £156.86inc

Latencies don't matter with Intel CPUs, so you don't need to worry about forking out £350 for some low latency DDR2 RAM. Conroe's prefetching helps out a lot.

Yup but I'm still thinking about going for Corsair RAM :)

Anyone know roughly how much the Intel BX rev304 retails for?

am really tempted by this since i have a potential buyer for my old 3800+ X2

i am looking at the following:

Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 "LGA775 Conroe" 1.86GHz (1066FSB) - Retail (CP-126-IN)
DFI Infinity 975X (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-020-DF)

i have a mach2 GT that i havent used yet so will be looking at using it with the above.

is this mobo ok? havent looked into intel before.

also, what memory would you recommend? want 2gb of something decent :)

as before, no idea about ddr2. been an amd puppy for aaages

maybe
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C5 TwinX (2x1GB)
