Dark Souls 2 - Thread

Just done the Demon of Song-

I summoned for it, as I thought I was summoning an NPC, but it turned out to be someone with a similar name. Anyway, I couldn't get near it....Don't think I did a single point of damage. Every time I got near it's head, it did a 180 and went after the other guy!

Btw, The Ring of Life Protection is a massive cheat! :p

I meant dull ember, not large ember.

Any way to tell when a fog gate leads to a boss rather than the next section? Couple of times I've had a bunch of souls and gone through one expecting another room only to be destroyed by a boss...

Put your White Soap Stone in your hot-bar and walk up to the gate, if it goes black (so you can't use it), it's a boss.

I did something really embarrassing in game before involving a fog gate. I summoned a chap just before one thinking it was a boss. Went through the fog, charged head on as I would against a boss only to find a pool of poison with 3 mobs. One of which proceeded to eat me.

In order.

Just use Flame Butterflies.
No, reinforcement is separate to infusion.
You can if you want, same as any NPC.

No, but there are is a consumable that will drop for you that will allow you to light your torch away from the bonfire.

No, you can infuse your weapon at any time and level it up both before and after infusion.

If you like!

1.Which class/build to aim for as i have never played dark souls before and i rage pretty fast if i keep dying in games, which to go for?
2. controller a must or keyboard/mouse combo works too in DS2? (PC), if so, did you change the default keybinds? mind sharing?

1. Go for a Str build with a 100% damage reduction shield(40-50 Str, 15-26 DEx, 20 the skill that gives you stamina, 15-20 Adapt, 30 the skill that allows more weight, rest Vigour). Shield up, learn the monsters/boss' skill moves, counter once or twice after you block/dodge, rinse and repeat.

2. Keyb/mouse works just fine, you may want to tweak the settings a bit (I'm playing on default).

That being said, I'm ~40 hours into the game and I've died ~300 times.

Honestly speaking the best way to approach these games imo is to put stats where you want on the first playthrough. The whole game is a learning experience the first time through and you will find out what kind of character you want to play and learn which stats to enhance/ignore. If it's your first time then the main advice I'll give is patience, if you rush in you will die, simple as that. Never try and get that extra hit in when enemies are low on life if it's too risky, I had many deaths when I first started Demon's Souls by breaking the nice attack patterns I had and eating a big hit that took me down.

Having a pad is a must, it controls terribly on keyboard & mouse.

Most of the poor design, whilst almost unbelievable in a game from 2014 can be kind of ignored, some of it is really annoying me. Messages saying there was a mimic ahead, so I get behind the chest and attack, only for it to eat me, after teleporting me in front of it somehow. The arrow clipping also has to be seen to be believed!
