Dark Souls 2 - Thread

It's an acquired taste really. I love the games, but I certainly share your sentiments regarding some of the outdated mechanics/animations, and I don't like how the lore/story is presented at all.

the bosses seem much easier compared to DS1 so far. Managed all of them on 1st, 2nd or 3rd attempt :o The mirror knight was very cool though, he summoned 2 players but managed to solo them all. Don't think they where prepared to be hit with a +10 claymor and stone ring combo :D

i put this on for an hour just now, outdated graphics, no plot. npc characters lips dont even move. If you die you end up miles away again? no idea whats going on i am baffled why this game gets so much praise. I thought the first one was dull and confusing too.

Graphics are decent and they are quite nice if you use the mod. No plot, as in no story given to you with a spoon by tones of dialogue and text? Here's a suggestion if you want an awesome plot: read a book. And yes you die, you start over because the idea is to complete a zone from start to finish, including the boss, without making major mistakes. This means you actually have get good at playing the game rather than going through it and finishing it with minimal effort.

This game does not treat you like a baby and it does not hold your hand around every corner nor does it shy from putting obstacles in front of you and making progress hard. In fact, DS2 is actually easier, which is probably related to it having gone mainstream and the need to appeal to a larger audience.

So who do we think is the toughest boss then?

I'll give us some choices-

1. Lost Sinner
2. The Persuer
3. Vestaldt
4. Old Dragonslayer
5. The Rotten
6. That Spider Thing
7. Giant Lord
8. Looking Glass Knight
9. Ruin Sentinels
10. Gargoyles

For me, I would say the Gargoyles, unless you summon one or two people for it is pretty tough, but I didn't have much trouble personally. The Lost sinner took me the most attempts.

Overall though, I think Vestaldt is the hardest imo.

I don't agree with the pursuer I managed to do him, second try.

Not enjoying myself as much as i hoped with this game, feel like they dumbed the enemy skill down but just added numbers to try even it out. Plus shambling zombie like foes that can suddenly turn track you like they are Torville & Dean on ice so you can never backstab is just plain crap.

Black Knight Halbred is awesome. It is taking me a while to get used to the moves, but the damage is insane. Bit heavy though.

It has very good damage but only when the blade connects with the target, which makes its damage drop by 50% in close range. I don't like that. I want to try the the Black Knight Greatsword but it has caster requirements, what's up with that?

think it does fire damage? which scales with faith (i believe) also we casters need melee weapons too :p

That life protection ring does kind of break the game, guaranteed protection of your souls for only 3k... I'm far less cautious with that ring on.

Don't use it then? Lol.

Nonsense, the presentation is the best thing about the series, it would ruin the depth and level of speculation if you were hand fed the story in cutscene after cutscene, it would be terrible. The lore is magical as it currently is.

Getting fed up of Dark Souls fans meeting any criticism with pre-prepared terms like 'spoon-fed' 'hand-fed' etc. Dark Souls has very interesting lore, which is told through poor mechanisms such as Item descriptions and Wikipedia. I don't want loads of cutscenes, or even the story made clearer necessarily, but their method of portraying the lore is poor, and is a step backwards in terms of story telling in games, which has improved massively over the years.

I really like the way the lore is handled in dark souls and dark souls 2. Both games are set in once mighty kingdoms that have crumbled and decade to the point that people hardly remember what happened and why. Finding tid-bits of info during your travels and piecing it all together makes the world actually feel the way they are trying to portray it. Adds to the atmosphere and immersion of the game massively.

Yeh they need to be better at explaining what the hell happened. I hear some of it comes in NG+ but this should not be necessary to start piecing together the story! It needs to be told from the outset, whilst still holding some mystery and imagination.

I like the choice they give you, if you want to not give a hoot and just chop/smash your way to the end you can. But if you want to learn about the world and its inhabitants then you can read everything and go through all the dialogue.

I agree. I like the lore, and I love piecing it all together, but item descriptions are ridiculous...where is this stuff even supposed to be written? Does every item you pick up come with a booklet, or do they all have long descriptions written all over them?:p

Again, I agree it is excellent.

I found it a waste of time going back and forth and repairing that ring (I die a lot, ha). I just use the one that limits hollow life loss.

I just use it for bits that I know can become tedious. For example, I wore it and repaired it for the whole of Dragon Aerie, as dragons attack you through walls:rolleyes:
