Dark Souls 2 - Thread

Good advice!

Personally I wouldn't bother upgrading armor at all though.

Also, which ADP is nice, I'd say VIT is most important, especially early on. More iframes in your roll from ADP is good, but if you're fat rolling because of low VIT then it's irrelevant. Soft cap for VIT is 29.

With the fat roll thresh hold being 70% now I didn't find myself putting anything into vit until I wash at the castle. I wore light armour for the most part anyway as poise is/was broken at the time so heavy armour Felt kinda pointless.

I do agree with upgrading armour though, don't think I've done it more than twice in about 500 hours with souls games :p.

I think I've spent too many souls on levelling up strength etc rather than piling it into the weapon - which I think would have been a better option

Dark Souls 2 PVP in a nut shell, either this or hackers *shrug*

Dedicated servers, r-right guys? Apparently the region lock feature only makes so Japanese players are separated from the rest of the players.

And my friend said he managed to kill a hacker the other day while playing. HE got 1 million + souls for the kill. Usually this would be a good thing, but it's completely messed up his soul memory as a result.

I personally don't have the game yet (waiting for another two weeks), hopefully the game will be a bit more smoother then.

I gave this game a go last night and it didn't go well. I never played Dark Souls 1 and I am playing with keyboard and mouse so I was expecting a bit of a learning curve. But it didn't go well at all.

Throughout the tutorial section it only references the Xbox controller and so you have to keep checking the key bindings to find out what the hell you are supposed to be pressing. I kept using my life stone instead of picking up items, completely unarmed myself during combat and promptly fell off the world.

Even with the graphics maxed out at 1440p the game looks very dated. The inventory and character screens are truly dreadful, it is like the last 30 years of game interface design never happened.

Perhaps it is just not for me. I was hoping for something that offered an updated mix of Dark Messiah and Severance. I'm really not feeling compelled to return to it and continue my battle with the controls and GUI.

Normally I'd offer any advice possible so that you could still use your keyboard and mouse.

However, for this game you have only one option - get yourself a controller.

Even if this is the only game you ever use it with, it'll be worth your while.

Forget such frippery as menu screens, etc, they're not important, what is important is that the Dark Souls games offer some of the greatest gaming experiences you'll ever have, but they don't get given to you on a plate.

This is a VERY Japanese game, despite the European Dark Fantasy setting, and as with many Japanese traditions, hard work and dedication are required before you can receive any rewards.

Do not hinder yourself, get a controller and enjoy this magnificent game the way it was intended to be played.

This^

any Third person game works better on a controller on pc imo but dark souls especially just does not suit kb/m.

i appreciate that they have made more efforts to make kb/m more viable this time around but its not good enough, save yourself a headache and use the controller and everything else will just fall nicely into place. the U.I etc is all designed around consoles/controller.

but if you dont have one, i could imagine this being frustrating to hear having spent money on the game before hand.

I started again, and it has been incredibly frustrating today!...first of all, in my game I have done the Last Giant and Persuer and haven't died yet. Managed the Persuer when he dropped the first time before the Last Giant. However, I was summoned 3 times for The Last Giant, and was killed in all 3...I wondered why he was not attacking at all, then it just said I was dead. I was summoned 4 times for The Persuer. twice again I was killed by lag, and twice by the host killing me with the ballista thing!!!

Well I have just read that the mouse and keyboard control is completely broken on this game and so no wonder I was struggling!

There is a nasty lag when attacking with mouse clicks and some moves; guard break and jump attack, are completely impossible with a keyboard and mouse combo.

There are a couple of threads in the Steam forums about using AutoHotKey to fix these problems. I think I will try these first.

Guaranteed FIX to Mouse Input Lag

Is anyone else a big fan of the little scenes they show before some of the boss fights?...disappointing that there aren't more tbh, and some of the choices for them are strange. There is one for The Last Giant, I suppose as it is the first boss, but not one for some very cool bosses that should have them really such as Throne Watcher/defender, Smelter, I think the old dragonslayer.

Yeah i think ornstein definitely should have had one.

Yeah it's kind of sad, for instance Demon's Souls has a scene for nearly every boss and it really added to the atmosphere of the fight (Old Hero, Tower Knight, Penetrator etc), even the fights without a scene felt like they didn't have one of purpose (Adjudicator for example), it added a mystery to the boss. Dark Souls had a scene for most fight as well.

I think it's probably a result of the fact DS2 just has so many bloody bosses, in Demon's bosses felt like they really meant something where as in Dark Souls 2 only a few really stand out as meaningful.

I think my favourite intros in DS2 are Lost Sinner, Pursuer and Velstadt.

The whole scene of the Tower Knight is one of the most epic moments I can recall in gaming...and I played Demon's after Dark Souls. Probably my favourite boss of all the games.

Yeah it would crash on launch and randomly during play to desktop etc. and people on overclocks still experience it, but actual performance is good, a 6950 would have no issues so crossfire definitely won't. Although you might miss out on Durante's GeDoSaTo mod when it releases, unless you're okay with 30~ frames per sec.

Reached the first boss and can report you were right my set up is fine! Maxed out and silky smooth :P not died yet touch wood!

Just got summoned by someone for the Persuer. This guy ran in there, parried his first attack, then killed him with two shots from the ballista... That's just showing off!

I know!... Got to do it a few more times though, as I'm trying to get an expensive ring, and it is the best way to farm souls atm.

Btw, a hell of a lot of people seem to summon two helpers for their first attempt at bosses... I would have thought you would at least try once solo, or with just NPC summons.
