Dark Souls 2 - Thread

So I finally finished it but before i go to NG+ is there any advice out there.

For instance should i trade up all the boss souls for items or can i take them with me.
Shall I respec before i start and enhance whatever weapon i think il be using this time or will that not really matter early doors?

and any advice you give me will be appreciated.

Firstly if you have done everything, kill all the NPCs :D By now you should have about four or five Soul Vessels so you can experiment all you like with a weapon you like the look of or moveset you enjoy.

As for all the boss souls, i only traded for weapons i liked the look of but if you want you can trade them all and experiment. In NG+ you get access to some new boss weapons so keeping the boss souls means you can get the weapons before you even reach the corresponding boss. Im just going off rough scraps of things ive read so dont hold me to all that though.

Had a hilarious moment the other night when I invaded a guy just before the Iron king boss. I made camp just in front of the boss fog gate, the other guy and his summons showed up and all charged me at the same time. I stood right on the edge of the platform next to the lava, just as the two summon guys reached me I rolled to the side and they both went flying into the lava! :D

I then fought a little with the other guy and quite luckily managed to poison him, he started to leg it back inside the giant bull statue and got one shotted by one of those fat Iron knight things.

The little sizzle sound as they went flying into the lava was priceless :D

oh boy Darklurker is really giving me issues. The only other boss who killed me more than 3 times was the old dragon as I wasn't running in the right directions.

I've respeced my pure melee char in to a pyro but still blowing through human effigies.

This is the last thing for me to do before ng+ now

Yip, 3rd pyro attempt. Man pyro just recks things, so much easier than melee

Dark lurker was easy to cheese as a caster but i bet melee is much harder!

I finished everything i needed to do on my first play so stated ng+ and reached the looking glass night in a matter of hours! The game is a breeze when you know the way and dont have to explore around! I never achievement hunt but these have all fallen in to place, i just need to reach dragleic castle on ng++ to buy a few high end spells and ill be done, aside from farming the rat covenant npc phantom/online

Paladin has been a great build too! Really enjoying the grand lance aswell, it just pushes through enemies in the R2 attack :)

There have been some suprises in ng+ in relation to enemies and some twists on bosses, not just harder

Good Luck :D
Not sure I would have wanted to start on DS2 as a newbie. I think DS1 has a much better tutorial area.

Im not to sure i thought ds2 had the better intro with the sections for tutorial stuff, but ds1 tied it in better

All the stats etc are all a bit clearer on ds2 aswell i think, but it wasnt that bad on 1 anyways

I prefer DS1 in terms of introduction, it's less guided than DS2, but ties into the feel of the game more.

Must say am really enjoying it so far, difficult but so rewarding. Killing the tree giant boss was very satisfying. Struggled with dragon rider, died so many times then had to summon a couple of folk to help me out. Felt like a bit of a copout summoning but at that point didn't really care.

Have moved on to no man's wharf where I am getting my ass handed to me, ran out of healing gems and cant find the trader to buy more off!! Watched a couple of walkthroughs and seems I need a torch or a bow to help out. Pirate guys are annoying with dual wielding never ending combos. One thing I have failed to do is use my shield and target an enemy button thing which is why I think I am struggling more.

Only thing i'm struggling with is all the stats, and potions etc. Don't know which is the best sword/armour and what my own stats do but I guess ill pick it up soon enough. Have been upgrading hitpoints, stamina, strength, dex, agility and ignored the rest as playing as a warrior.

One quick question, with my souls am I best just levelling up or upgrading my weapons / armour? I have upgraded my fire sword which seem to be the best and my starting off armour. Problem I can see for example with my armour I just found some better armour now thinking I wasted souls upgrading my old one for no reason. Same can be said with my fire sword, what If I find a better one around the corner etc

If you find a weapon with a move set you like, go ahead and upgrade and make it a beast :) Armour I tend to leave at default, unless it looks badass and/or has stats/abilities you really like.

Aren't weapons all different power? Special weapons etc

Why upgrade a base model weapon when I can upgrade for example a dragon bone sword etc?

Well, you can easily beat the game with a fully upgraded longsword, that you get at the start of the game, so I don't see why not.

In Dark Souls, almost every weapon can be useful even in the late game so I suggest to keep at least 1 of each weapon you find (store them if you don't use them) but, until you learn more about the game, it's best not to invest more in upgrades, focus on increasing your stats.
Each weapon has strengths and weaknesses and many have unique style/combos so try them all and find something what suits you. The shield isn't mandatory but if you don't use it, you have to learn to use rolls which are harder to master than shields. Targetting is crucial, some of the bosses are impossible to beat with out it.

you can upgrade them all, the game is not stingy with upgrade materials. I finished NG with 3 fully upgraded boss soul weapons, 5 or 6 fully upgraded normal path weapons and a couple of twinkling titanite items. Im still carrying 15 titanite slabs and about 15 petrified dragon bones. I dont even think about reg and large titanite. You can farm any upgrade stuff you need with bonfire ascetics. Theres an area in the game later with only 6 enemies and loads of loot.

Just make sure you pick the best infusion for your stats for max damage.

Im in Iron Keep and just got the Zweihander -my fav weapon in DS1 and I couldnt be more disappointed, what on earth have they done to the ultra swords in this game?!?! they handle like crap!

Im still using the broadsword as I cant find anything that clicks :(
Also that smelter daemon - is the first boss im struggling with. He has million health, I do no damage, he shield breaks and even with 2 other chars its massively tough..

Craterload if you talk to the seller at the giant bonfire she will eventually tell you shes moving on, and she relocates to Majula and then sells infinite gems.

I would recommend the claymore, i used that all the way through as a 2nd weapon but used it as a main towards the end, staggers most enemies, nice move set and fairly quick compared to others i tried

Smelter demon is one of the hardest for most just due to his constant fire damage, a few tips would be equip fire resistant stuff, use a pharros lock stone in the near by tower and it poors water out which boosts your fire resist

On my first play i got so ****ed i went aeay and did another area and found a 100% fire resistant great shield (i can tell you where if it gets that bad) but since then on subsiquent play throughs i just dodge him. You can summon an npc there which helps advance her quest line (unless she dies)

Also as a secondary weapon you cant go wrong with the basic mace, brought from blacksmith and upgrade it, it just chews through enemies

Ah havent found a claymore yet so will look out for that. I was thinking about going to do another area , Will try a few times tonight and if I still cant nail it I will go somewhere else.
Im not a fan of some of these optional areas, In DS1 I felt every area was important but in DS2 half the time I dont know whether I need to be in a place to advance the story.
