Dark Souls 2 - Thread

£11.99 (40% discount) for the DX11 upgrade (if you own DX9 DS2 + all DLC) I caved as a massive DS fan I just had to have it ;)

IMO its well worth buying initially the gfx do not look much different but you would have to be blind not to notice the major changes:

Realtime Lighting FX is much improved
Lighting FX quality overall is vastly better
64 bit optimisation & 60FPS make for an ultra smooth gaming experience

Gameplay changes & a few surprises ;) make it a worthy upgrade IMO.

Screenshots & video do not show these changes very well though as its hard to capture the realtime lighting FX changes & minor gfx improvements throughout. Once you reach Majula for the 1st time the changes start to become obvious ;)

If your a Dark Souls fan I think the DX11 upgrade is an essential buy :D its not quite nextgen but still an improvement over DX9 as the textures appear a little sharper & most of the models have more detail its much sharper now due to DX11 shader FX improvements.

Dark Souls 2 + All DLC DX9 = 13.9GB
Dark Souls 2 + All DLC DX11 = 18.1 GB

I have to disagree, there is no reason why this DX11 version wasnt released as the original PC version, instead of the 360/PS3 port.

Absolutely no offence, but Im very disappointed that a PC gamer like yourself has bought this 'patch' when its primarily taking the pee out of us PC gamers.

Albeit I have not and will not play this DX11 update.

What do you mean "Umm"? After this shilling of PC gamers episode I will certainly be waiting until well after all DLC has been released for DS3, to avoid being scammed like this again. Who knows what excuse they will think up next time for their "definitive must virtually buy the game again" edition?

I will still buy it, although they will not release an updated graphics version for DS3, it was mainly so they could resell it on the consoles again. Pretty much all decent games get resold anyway as GOTY editions with the DLC (although some don't include the DLC), which is pretty much what they have done here anyway so not really sure why people are crying so much. Graphics update and all the DLC, hell some GOTY games don't even include all the DLC let alone a graphics update........

I wondering if to buy DS 1 and 2 on PC.
Are they better or worse for PC than console?

DS1 you have dsfix which makes the game better on PC (graphics and a 60fps fix, although best to cap it to 50fps), DS2 the new edition looks and runs better on the PC then it does on the PS4, although only slightly. PS4 will sit around 45/60fps while the PC is a solid 60fps and the PC version looks slightly better.

Console versions I have heard they have more players but unsure how true. Both games play better with a pad as well. All in all the PC versions are better if only slightly, just depends how you prefer to play these games, for me it is in front of the TV, but I use a long HDMI cable for this.

No offence taken mate but its not just this game its most games & most publishers. DLC is more often than now cut n pasted out of the main game before release. This is actually a new game in many places they have changed so much very little is the same I went somewhere yesterday & after a few tough (this new DX11 version is tougher than ever  ) boss battles & a huge flying dragon appeared in a new location I tried to outrun him but had to stand & fight....things like that to me show they have put a lot of work into this release its not just a few extra DX11 shader FX most of the game so far is pretty jumbled up in a good way!

Its the way the industry is run now they can either charge £70-80 on release for all content or trickle these updates out & gamers can buy what they want the most.

For DS2 we would never have even got DX11 without the console nextgen re-release the number of people buying Dark Souls on PC (1 or 2) is shockingly low like its low for most console ports compared to the number buying on other platforms.

Eventually the 75% discount means the PC sells way more copies but the profit margin is probably lower so that appears to be why PC still gets treated like the black sheep of the gaming world :( as they need to wait longer & work harder for the same profits.

I paid £11.99 for the upgrade and for that I got shinier graphics, a more stable version running with Direct X11 - also included are different enemy placements - extra placements (some quite challenging), extra npc invasions (some quite skilled, one in particular I thought was a real player), I have to find the dlc keys in the world instead of them just being dumped in my bag by the key fairy (more immersive), tons of bloody pursuers turning up around every damn corner *twitch* and some other stuff I probably didn't find yet.

It's made Dark Souls 2 a game that I can't rush through the lower levels any more (well, until I get used to the new layout).

I paid £11.99 to add all this to a game I already love- I don't feel ripped off at all, but then it's my money, right?

I've seen much worse being sold as DLC/Upgrades (horse armour/Assassins creed buy2win etc etc) and I can honestly say, hand on heart that Sotfs upgrade (already had base game and season pass) is a good buy.

This is making me want to try it once im done with bloodborne! I got all achievements on steam so feel like i know the game well, so if the changes are enough to make it feel fresh it sounds like not a bad deal to me!

I bought Scholar simply because I wanted the new enemy placements. Tbh though, it actually looks worse than I had the game with enb. Have to wait for an enb for the update to come out and see how this is.

PS. I already noticed an additional petrified NPC in the start area!
