***Dayz: Stand Alone Thread***

As someone who played a lot of the mod, and enjoyed it thoroughly is this worth a £20 investment in it's current form?

i.e Is it better than the mod? Does it have more longevity than the mod?

I really enjoyed the early days of DayZ but it did start to get a little bit old towards the end once you were fully kitted out plus the incessant logging and general nukes/hacking really took the shine off an otherwise excellent concept.

You must be new to DayZ I guess, Rocket has already said he has a combat log fix for when he gets back mid Jan, this timer is not it.

I don't understand your problem - how will a timer not resolve what I explained. If people have to sit infront of me for 30 secs they will die instead of logging out as soon as as bullet hits them. Do you even play the game or do you just post negative stuff in the thread constantly. If you don't like it don't play it its pretty simple.

So you know people who combat log press alt f4 to quit back to desktop right? You can say what you want about me m8 I played dayz since day 1 and I have no issues with its normal bugs. I have an issue with the fact a bug that is two years old where people can delete files and run around with no grass/bushes/tress and walls is not fixed. It is a very simple server side check. You are right I won't play until it is fixed. If they have fixed alt f4 that is awesome but I very much doubt it. Timer starts alt f4 and right back to desktop. DG will confirm the alt f4 method as he follows the fixes more then me.

A server side timer will keep your character in server for 30 seconds at its previous position even if you Alt-F4. That means you're abandoning your character and it could be killed even if you're not in game.

Give the player the option when logging out to ignore the timer, i.e. quit the game leaving your character there until the timer runs out or let them watch just in case while the timer runs out before quitting the game. I think that's a perfect solution. Add in a delay before being able to rejoin a server unless the server was reset, say 5 minutes or something and you have a pretty good deterrent against server hoppers and combat loggers.

I think that was tested in the mod when a person would stay in the server for 30 seconds just sitting there but then you can dupe, as in your mates can take your gear and you can log back with your same gear. It was something along those lines so no one ever used that method. The log back in timer is a good one, Breaking Point has a seven minute timer before you can switch servers, but you can rejoin the same server without a timer. With the person staying in the game you also have the issue if connection drops or pc crashes you lose all your work etc, although that is down to the player.

I don't like this growing movement of a friendly everybody wins day z.

I don't have a game breaking issue with combat logging because when I shoot I shoot to kill they don't get a chance to combat log they are already dead by the time they reach for alt f4.

In it's current state as heavy player of arma 2 day z wasteland etc you will get bored fast especially with no respawning loot or tents.

You wont get bored however if you play with a group/team but as a solo it's boring mainly because there are no tents though I'd say so you get this feeling of whats the point..

what u mean ? overall its pretty decent now. patches are being released every couple of days at moment.

once customizable vehicles and bases are in mod is over.

There must be a way to make the server stop the duping, so if someone takes some stuff from your backpack while you are logged out, then when you log back in you still don't have the stuff?

https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Crimewatch

EvE online has a combat logging system that works really well, if you have been involved in any combat a 15min timer starts and if you log out your ship stays in space (this includes shooting or been shot by NPC's). Something simlar would be good, even if you shoot a zombie or are hit by a zombie the the combat timer starts so you cant log out for 15mins (this includes alt f4).

Surely this is possible for the devs?

It probs is m8, they are re doing stuff from scratch so I am more then sure the devs will find a way. Rocket has even said he has a plan that will go into full test when he gets back mid Jan. I was just saying at this point wasting dev's time on a timer where you can alt f4 anyway to bypass the timer when they could fix the biggest issue the game has and that is the ability to cheat by just deleting a few files.

just do what rust do and add sleepers so peoples body and belongings remain on the server after they have logged out.

everyone will have to logout in a hidden spot somewhere and hope they don't get found :D

it would also stop people doing login traps and force people to spread out from the popular areas

I use fraps can record highest settings with next to no performance loss and i record all the time i play :D

No matter how powerful my system, FRAPS kills me lol. Check this test here:

That was with a fairly intensive ENB which should cut FPS by around 50%, 4K textures for everything, again, not helping, two DoF, as I left one on by accident. To top it all of were hundreds of Draugr and Heimskrs, with a thousand plus cheese wheels :D

Recorded it with Bandicam on 1920x1080 everything else on ultra, and was getting 30fps, with a dip to 15fps at the end with all that cheese. FRAPS would have had me on 1fps lol :o

It's a bit blurry thanks to the double DoF and because it had to be rendered twice due to an error.

Although the last time I tried to record BF4, it dips from 60+ on ultra to 20-30, even if I put the settings on low, still always dips to 20-30 when recording. Same with DayZ, 60 without, 30 with recording. Suppose it depends on optimization of the games as well. Nonetheless I can't wait for my hardware recorder to arrive tomorrow :D
