***Dayz: Stand Alone Thread***

Just killed someone who took some shots at me, went to loot their body and they logged out   :D

Sounds like they were not dead. If they were their body and loot would be there for 10 minutes. They combat logged and their body disappeared after 30 seconds.

It always pays to put an extra round into their head once you are close enough.

Well had a go with Speed and Two of my friends last night we ran all around eth NW for a good two hours.
I must say the Experimental Build is definatly going in the right direction. The visuals are bloody stunning really does add a proper immense feeling to the game, specially when the sun started to set on us all very eerie...

Loads and loads of little improvements cant remember a single one but I was very impressed last night. Game is 100% going in the right direction after seeing that build last night.
OOOOO one thing I do remember RESPAWING ZOMBIES, If your going to the NW Airfield take at least one friend and as many MAGS and RAGS as you can carry.

All hail our new leader King Dean....:p

Yeah I'd agree with that, lots of nice little fixes and changes. I particularly liked the new melee animations, takes some getting used to at first but once you do it feels more natural. The lighting changes were the most noticeable, they seemed to make the world look more realistic and natural.

The respawning zombie system is at the moment just a quick fix, a simple system until they have time to put something more robust in. The rate of respawn and the fact they respawn within visual range of a player will change from what Dean said in the Devblog. Due to the way it works at the moment, the softly softly approach in high zombie populated areas like cities, airfields would be advisable. As you found out, shooting just attracts more and more of them, so melee weapons and stealth are the way forward (as it should be really).

Like you say though, nearly everything is a step in the right direction and I'm excited to see what comes next.

What is the difference between the normal servers and the experimental. Will I loose anything I have already if I go into one of them servers?

I only started to play this about 2days ago so anything to help me would be great

bit of a random question but has anyone noticed anything similar to this...
last night me and mates were looting a town and we all had "dayz has stopped working" at the same time, we tried logging back into the same server and as soon as the timer counted down the game crashed again.
After two or three attempts my friends went to another server (which was fine) but I gave it 10 mins and tried to rejoin the original server as I had dropped my M4 on the ground at the time of the crash and wanted to get it back.
When I did eventually get back in my M4 was still there but the double mag and ACOG was missing. The other two then rejoined and it was fine

Just seems strange that we all crashed (and kept crashing)at the same time then it was fine again.

Damn Im gona miss my ACOG :D

Experimental gets more frequent updates, you see the new stuff first, content, bugs and all. They are basically externally testing the new patches before they do a final build for stable. Stable used to get much more frequent updates, but after the FPS VRam bug they are taking it slower, meaning more experimental patches and less stable. So really experimental seems to be the best branch to play on, although I still use both, just for the extra character "slots".

The experimental and stable branches are on separate hives, so you have separate characters and don't lose anything if you switch. Like stable you can have a Regular and Hardcore character, so with both branches that is a total of four characters.

Until recently, there were a very limited number of experimental servers, but that has changed and there are plenty to pick from so there are very few disadvantages to using experimental now.

To switch you right click on the game in your Steam library, select properties. Then go to the Betas tab and select experimental from the drop down box, the game will then update with a patch (usually around 300Mb). At the moment this patching is the only way to switch between the branches but they are looking into other methods in the future. You can also now tell which branch you are on easily, just look at the game in the library. If it has [experimental] next to the name, then that is what you are on, if not then you are on stable.

I've had that, with someone I was playing with, the game crashed for both of us at the same time. I suspect it is something to do with the netcode.

Our issue ultimately though was the VRam FPS bug, once the VRam filled up, the game would crash. That has of course been patched, so I'm not sure on the cause of your issue I'm afraid. Maybe check both systems for stability?

The missing loot could well of been some sort of server bug, I tend to avoid the clan and 3rd party ones as they are often the cause if things go wrong. That or of course someone wandered by with an M4 and nicked your ACOG lol.

you could dl patch play experimental then swop back to normal and you should have gear but may lose it. experimental is worth playing if you want to see progress upto date.

Started off last night being shot on sight as me and a friend tried running over to Orlovets from Nizhnoye. One guy with a Mosin and the other with an M4. No communication from them until after they shot at us. Ended up being killed even though we had pretty much nothing useable at the time.

Unluckily for them I re-spawned on the coast at Nizhnoye so I legged it back over to where they killed us and they were still sat there trying to loot from our previous characters. I decided to try and knock one of them out with my bare fists so stayed in as much cover as possible to run over to them through an open field, luckily there were a couple of trees next to them which prevented them from seeing me. Went straight for the guy with the M4a1 as he was crouched and looting. Couple of punches and he went down, then tried doing the same to the other guy but he managed to get me with his Mosin (made him bleed though). Don't care if the M4a1 guy got revived or whatever as it would've wasted their resources as least :p

Thus headed the start of an evening of running up and down the coast as fresh spawns just trying to punch kitted out players as they all seemed to want to shoot on site yesterday. Me and my friend met up at Kamyshovo and instantly found two kitted guys again. They didn't seem hostile at first, but when one asked for my trousers I wasn't having any of it and ran off, he started shooting. Persuaded my friend to join in on the punching action and knocked the guy out who fired the first shot, but I got shot by the other guy.

Ended up at Nizhnoye again with another fresh spawn who was amusing to say the least. Came across two more kitted players who broke our new friends legs before even speaking to us. Then they kept trying to taunt us/scare us by shooting at us. They even dropped a tin of food on the road to see what we'd do, but we couldn't care less as fresh spawns having a laugh. The two guys came back again and broke my friends legs and then killed our new friend.

I really don't understand the point in shooting fresh spawns, especially on site, when the fresh spawn hasn't provoked anything. Seems like such a waste of time and ammo, but maybe I just don't get the point..

I spent 2 hrs. with my brother last night running to an army base, we had 2 large backpacks full of food and found a canteen each on the way so we decided to go inland since we had enough to survive and thought that going inland was a good idea because not many people would venture that far in.

I was correct, got to the base and we found ammo after ammo, a magnum, m14 i think it was and a rifle. I was patrolling the area when I just died. No shots, no sounds and no sign of life. I told him to get the **** out of there.

I re-spawned and I was right back at the coast. At this point it was midnight and I am at work so thought screw that!

Told him to make his way to the main city and to collect as much of the gear I had and I would meet him there as my fresh spawn.

This game can be brutal but It’s a nice change to chill out. now that I have the gist of the game I will start playing on a High population server!

i would normally shoot everyone but i actually let a few people live lately :D

I can fully understand shooting someone who was armed and showed no signs of being friendly, but last night it was just two or three of us casually walking down the road chatting and we get shot before we're even spoken to.

It got even funnier when our new friend from last night had his legs shot out so he tried rolling towards the guy who shot his legs out and the guy backed away before they were anywhere near each other! I mean come on, it's essentially a legless fresh-spawn, what do you think he's going to do

Bandits be bandits I suppose, but they're pretty pathetic if they're just walking around shooting unarmed people who just want to get started in the game.

They'll be the same people I'll let zombies kill when they're stuck between a rock and a hard place if the zombie count ever goes up.

There's your first mistake, stay off the roads and away from the big towns if you don't want to die.

I do agree about the game being full of trolls though. After my character got reset last night I spawned in the new town so decided to run to the NE airfield and there was some troll exploiting and camping in the wall of the building with the prison. He shot me in the legs through the wall and laughed like a little girl as I crawled away.

There were guys doing this at the coast too, shooting new spawns in the legs, bandaging them then leaving them to eventually starve to death. Hopefully they will up the stick spawns for making splints or allow us to craft them by hitting a tree with an axe or something. :D

I did run over and finish the bullets in my SKS into his head then went into cover to reload and catch my breath. When I came out he had gone but I could see he didn't get up and wander off. I bet because he was prone I couldn't hit his head like I have seen in so many streams and video's :D

Thanks for the explanation.

In my testing, having swapped countless times, there is very little to no risk to your gear from the swapping process itself. I've certainly never lost anything to switching and neither has anyone I know. That isn't to say it is fool proof however, this is DayZ afterall.

Could be yes, I'm not 100% certain what happens if you kill someone as they combat log in that 30 second window. Certainly needs testing. I'd assume you'd kill the player and their loot would remain for 10 minutes, but I'm far from certain having not had it happen myself.

Not played the mod so started straight off with Dayz SA.
I signed up to play a survival game pitting my wits and ingenutiy against the zombies and trhe elements etc.

My first point is why is map stuck at 225 km2 , when the RV3 engine can handle much larger maps, I'd like to see the map doubled in size to 30km x 30km from 15x15.

Next, multiple posts about bugs etc , it is alpha and peolple complain , jeez I find it stable no crashes yet just annoyances like ending up ouside a building after fighting a zombie (obviously code needs tweaking on a global level to ascertain player boundaries, this should fix the hding in walls prob as well).

Vehicles, as read on another forum ' i want cars now' reason so he can get from a to b quicker 'cos he cant be bothered to spend time walking/running. Obviously a ps3 boy who wants to login get a gun and shoot anything that moves in the quickest possible time without actually playing the game.
If they implement cars I'd like to see the following
find car, no battery , no petrol, flat tyres
battery ; find battery (can only walk with battery 'cos they're heavy)
battery flat ; no power or water in dayz so will have to find a solar trickle charger (takes 10 hrs in sunlight to charge battery, but remember it rains a lot)
petrol ; find petol can , may have petrol may not , may have water etc, then need to find syphon hose then find petrol station with petrol then fill can
tyres need to find pump either car(10 mins a tyre) or bicycle (15 mins a tyre).

So to get you car running you'll need to find the parts spend 10 hrs with the car and protect it from other survivors, this will give the KOS'rs something to fight over.

Whats other peoples thoughts on these comments (more thoughts to come).

I know what you're saying with regards the realism, but to Hell with real time.

My average gaming session is two hours, and I don't want that time mostly taken up by realism elements in the game.

Yes I prefer this type of game over spray and pray shoot em ups like COD, but I certainly can't entertain a game that is played almost to real time.

But that aside, if the populous of any nation were to just drop dead, their vehicles wouldn't follow suit out of sympathy. There'd be a much higher percentage of ready-to-go cars than clapped out old bangers needing repairs.

Bet been asked a hundred times BUT...

Is Day Z SA worth the £20

&

Day Z or Infestation?

&

DAY SA or ARMA 2 + Mod, whats the difference?

Thanks.
