***Dayz: Stand Alone Thread***

I very much doubt that to be honest, sure it may well be a factor but there are desync issues on every server. I find it hard to believe that on every server there are people stuck in walls. It seems more like a fundamental issue with the engine and its current use of non-guaranteed updates as mentioned in the devblog (unless they've already patched that).

Anyone who has played Arma 3 Wasteland or Altis life will know that Bohemia Interactive don't exactly have a great grasp of this issue, even in fully released titles. I just hope they can sort out this issue before release, but that is a long way off so there is at least a bit of hope they can.

No doubt hes lieing as usual. Just like when Frankie asked him over 12 months ago will mouse acceleration be wiped out of standalone to which he replied yes.

There's many more. Fingers crossed BI kick him off the team asap. He clearly isnt cut out for this. Great guy and love his ego, Obviously good at coming up with ideas. Really really poor at implementing them. Shame.

Nice to see DG has jumped ship already. :D

I wouldn't say he is lying, his mouth writes cheques his err team can't cash! lol, yes that was bad... *facepalm*. He has great ideas, but doesn't really ground himself in reality and check they are feasible before broadcasting them to the world.

Mouse acceleration seems to be *another* engine related issue, although it seems to have taken a turn for the worst this last patch. They are obviously trying a few simple fixes and maybe this is one of them. From what I've read I don't think it is an easy fix, but it should certainly be higher on the priority list.

I love how people think he is the root cause of everything wrong with DayZ SA, ultimately though, the root cause is Bohemia Interactive and their engines. There are fundamental issues with all of Bohemia Interactive's recent engines, hardly his fault as they were made in-house long before he joined the company. It would have course of been nearly impossible to go with any other company for the SA, so not much can be done there. If they can be overcome then obviously DayZ could be something special once it is finished.

He has great vision and at this stage that is what DayZ needs pre-Alpha imho. Once everything is in place, the systems, the survival elements, then whom ever takes up can work on fixing bugs, improving performance and all the other boring stuff. Hopefully they'll pick someone good at that sort of polishing.

I just lost my character due to the "Session Lost" issue, something that has happened with Arma 3 wasteland as well. So its clearly something similar, engine related issues maybe, parts of the server software they share.

I did however find some Tactical Bacon, so that makes it all alright: http://www.markljlewis.com/tacticalbacon.jpg

I'm curious... to what extent was Dean "forced" to go with Bohemia and their terrible engine?

I appreciate that as a mod for their previous IP they might hold some sort of claim to "DayZ" but if Dean knew that the engine was severely holding back what he was trying to do then I find it pretty hard to believe he couldn't just find a developer who would be able to do a better job (or hire his own team and license a different engine to make it in)... Okay maybe BI own "DayZ" but since everyone creams themselves so much over Dean Hall he could have called it whatever he wanted and people would still have lapped it up (plenty of "similar enough" titles to DayZ exist under different names anyway so I have my doubts that it's a legal/licensing issue)

Did he actually just not realise the effect the engine was having on the game? Did someone at Bohemia sell him the idea that "it'll be different for SA - don't worry!" and he believed them? Is he just good friends with the staff at BI and wasn't bold enough to tell them he wanted to take it elsewhere? Or was he just bored with working on DayZ and decided to execute the ultimate "cash-in and run"...

We'll probably never know

I think it comes down to money and sales, I'd be surprised if developers were queuing at the door to risk money on what was basically (at that stage) a free mod for another developers game. Ultimately the sales success of the SA likely surprised everyone, including Dean. Had he known how well it would sell, maybe he would have gone a different route with someone else, but as they say, hindsight is 20/20.

Like you say we may never know the in's and out's of what went down.

Last night we had some fun battles at the NE Airfield which of late has been a ghost town.

We approached from Krasnostav and I worked my way into position as overwatch on the Western end of the runway, with option to move clockwise to cover our other 3 members who went in the front door.
Just as they approached the 1st camo building the doors closed on them!
How many were inside, we weren't sure and I saw no movement in the windows at the rear of the building from about 500m away. A couple of minutes pass while we wait for movement, either internally or a door opening, but nothing.

5 minutes passed and I saw the upstairs room door open and a guy with a large green backpack and an SKS looting the room. He stood still at the window looking down the runway when I took a shot. It missed and the player ducked out of sight.

I sent the told the others to enter the building after putting a couple of rounds more into the upper room and also downstairs.
Uncontested they moved in and closed the doors. At that point I saw something drop from the upstairs level down to the ground but I couldn't tell if it was a body or something else.

I fired another set of 5 from my Mosin into the rooms and the others entered to find nothing.... he'd combat logged and the dropping item was his gun that he was holding in his hands as that falls to the floor when you log out.

Anyway, moving on and round I push towards the North of the airfield as my buddies check through the Hangars and the ATC with little or no resistance until shots come at them from sniper hill, just North East of the airfield. SKS again and from range so little chance of hitting so I get my most experienced member to sprint around trying to draw fire so I can pinpoint where the player is.
Couple more cracks of gunfire as I moved further clockwise then movement up the hill and spotted a different guy running away, further up the hill. One 300m mosin shot drops him dead and I cautiously move towards his body.
All goes quiet.......

The team check the remaining buildings and were just exiting the last Camo building nearest the ATC when they spot a player behind the Hangars. Shots are fired from one of my team who wings the player, but loses them through lack of line of sight on the back of the Hangars. All 3 pursuit the player to find nobody there, but suspicions are raised that he'd high-tailed it to Krasnostav at full tilt.

I'd tried to spot, but with limited view I couldn't see anyone, so I returned to the dead SKS guy. Took a few rounds off him, then hid the body and went into a lower tree line with a white fence to wait and cover my team.

*Reload Sound*

"oh ****" I called out to my team to tell them someone had spawned in right behind me in the same bushes/treeline but I had no idea exactly where, but they were very, very close.

I switch to my M4 (I dual carry) and pray that I don't make too much noise, when I hear more shots and my team at the buildings are under fire again and the sound seems to be coming from sniper hill.... near me!

I'm still prone, but looking around the hill for movement when I hear a massive bang, which sounds like a Blaze but the sound was behind me along the tree line. I'm getting twitchy at this moment, when I crouch and scan up the hill when I see someone running circles in decent gear, looking like he's dodging fire, but there's no shots and my team are just legging it to the East out of the Airfield, so I suspect the guy is trying to draw fire. He turns and sees me and opens up and I return the favour taking him down, but suffering hits myself as my vision starts to go grey.

So I concluded there's probably at least one more player, somewhere in the bushes behind me and god knows how many others around too so I make the executive decision to run like a bugger as fast as I can along the tree line, into the thicker undergrowth.

One small issue is forgetting to actually stand up and remain crouched. D'oh!

I only realised this when I think "I'm not running very fast" and I hear the Blaze fire again at me, followed shortly by an M4.

After straightening myself up and gaining a bit of the Usain Bolt speed factor and weaving like a lunatic I manage to plunge into the undergrowth near the barn and keep running until I'm fairly safe.

Luckily all my squad made it out alive unscathed and I meet up with them near Olsha where I check out my gear for damage and eat & drink until I start to heal. The downside was I put my Mosin down (with it's long range scope) so I could eat and drink to find it stuck into a bush about 1ft off the floor! Arse! I couldn't pick it up again so I had to put it down to a bug and stick to the M4.

Finally..... sorry for the length.

One of our players usually watches Sacriel stream and posted up on our forums that he'd been watching Sacriel and his 42nd crew have some great firefights at the NE airfield.

He was on our server......

p.s. The player that logged in behind me, was an unknown player who took out one of Sacriels team and he took pot shots at me when I legged it and I can't confirm if I killed Sacriel but I think I did, but his video is deleted on his Twitch page unfortunately.

DayZ for all it's bugs and issues gets better and better when stuff like this goes down :D

The latest update is buggy as hell on the server side.

Players get disconnected left, right and centre and I think it's down to lots of bandwidth being used, even though they said they'd fixed it.

Loading into a server takes an age and the lag/desync is much worse. Hope they hotfix soon.

Yeah what the hell do the testers do when they are given a build? Because at the minute it looks like they do **** all. I saw myself 2 times in-game after waiting 5 mins to get in and then lost session I mean WTF?

There is one being tested at the moment it seems, although strangely only two experimental servers seem to be showing on the new version.

Well I finally got on a server, an NL one. I got an authentication error. I then had to wait 225 seconds. I went back in the same server and it was pitch black even though it was daytime when I first joined.
Joined another server and went in the barracks on NWAF and a zombie came through the wall and hit me, one hit and I was bleeding and my tactical shirt ruined. I killed that zombie and another came through the wall but I could not move and got stuck on the zombie I just killed.....
Not very happy with it really, Spent more time trying to get in the game than actually playing. Got kicked and disconnected god knows how many time. Won't be playing this version again, in fact I am going to wait till they fix zombies walking through walls. So annoying.
One of the guys I watch stream got knocked unconscious by 3 invisible zombies tonight, he was not happy and quit on dayz and played day zero instead :D

The update is even worse for me, I get the desync but its not even telling me its desync and the next thing i know ive been attacked by zombies and dripping with blood. Early this morning I was running along and the screen goes grey a few times, then i'm dead

Its become a bit disheartening building up your player to know you could lose it anytime.

Add the fact it take ages to get on server. :(

Just great played another hour and got some good kit back up. Just logged back in and player wiped :(
