Deathloop - from the people behind Dishonored and Prey

restart the day

Just catching up with a few of the older posts. I had the same experience as you. Wasn't really to my liking at first but once it clicked and I understood the mechanics? My favourite game of the year. Once you work out what slabs and guns you like, work on getting those infused and levelled up. I think I completed the gun mostly with my SMG which i specced up to basically be deadly at range and silent. That managed to get 90% of my kills. I had a sniper rifle that I barely used and a Shotgun for those juliana encounters where I just wanted to get rid of her quickly.

Installed this on Gamepass the other day, and still enjoying it quite a bit.

Even if last night I spent an hour picking my way through one of the levels and, having killed pretty much all the eternalists on the map, I fell into some poison gas looking for the way into the final room. And then died trying to retrieve the residuum from my corpse.

Ugh. An hour of time, almost 30,000 residuum, two slabs, five or six trinkets and a couple of blue weapons gone. I went to bed a bit cross. But I will try that level again tonight...

(Just to clarify - you can only infuse back at the hub, right? I didn't miss the opportunity to infuse something whilst on the map, did I?)

Yeah I carried a shotgun with some perks that did more damage, range and stopped her from using her power. Nice and easy way to deal with her quickly as long as she didn't get the jump on you.

The Shift and Nexus slabs were my most used. Nexus was a good laugh during the party missions

I read elsewhere that you can alter the number of revives you get to infinite. I don't know how much that will affect the feel of the game though as it practically means you'll never die nor lose anything. I don't know if you can increase it from 2 to say 5, I'll have a look after.

Cheers.

Yes, I did notice that in the menu, but I also thought it might trivialise the game a bit. Falling into water/gas aside it doesn't feel especially difficult so I am a bit wary of killing the challenge further (though I've only had two Julia encounters so far, including the scripted AI one, so my perspective on that may well change...).

I have just had my first Julia encounter and she killed me twice before I even could see her! Not sure what exactly happens with the reprises though. I was on 0 when I killed Julia but then it went back to 2. So not sure whether you get them all back if you kill her.

So after that, I upped mine to 4 as it was the highest available before it switches to infinite. There are quite a lot of options to make the game easier like one shot kills but I left that off. I have put the tag multiple enemies on though as I found tagging a bit fiddly.

Ah yes, the tagging thing is a good tip. I had been getting a bit annoyed by constantly accidentally untagging someone when trying to tag another enemy who was too close to them.

I didn't notice anything with Julia and reprises. I think I was on full when I met her both times, though. Plus I definitely got lucky the second time, as she warped right in front of me from around a corner when I just happend to be pointing a fully-loaded 50-50 in her general direction... ("Urrk! <bang, bang> Oh.") :)

One thing I do like that differs from Dishonored and Prey is your power always regenerates back to full from empty. No messing about with eve hypos. :D

Aaaah! I hadn't even used any slab powers because I assumed I'd need to find ways to regen mana (or whatever it's called in this game) like in Dishonored! I was saving them for an emergency that never came! Ok, that will help my next run go a bit smoother I hope (once I get another slab, since I lost mine last night )

I really hope the game walks you through what you need to do on the final day to enable you to complete the loop. It's all getting very complicated! I don't know whether I'm coming or going half the time. :D

Even without the wiki guide, that Dirk shared, the game shows you the correct way to do things. You don't even have to rush it if it you want to complete other things first. If memory serves it has big yellow ticks on the important events during each time slot.
