Destiny 2... It's a coming!

http://www.pcgamer.com/destiny-2-pc-settings-4k/

An interesting article on what it takes to run D2 at 4k, the author tries different settings on a variety of GPUs in order to get 4k60. He manages it pretty well even on mid-range cards!

This is what you need to do to get 4k60;

  • GTX 1080 Ti SLI: use the highest preset and then set DoF to High.
  • GTX 1080 Ti: use the highest preset and then set DoF to High.
  • GTX 1080 SLI: use the highest preset and then set DoF to High.
  • GTX 1080: use the high preset, then turn off SSAO and DoF.
  • GTX 1070: use the medium preset, then turn off SSAO and DoF.
  • GTX 1060 6GB: use the medium preset, turn off SSAO and DoF, and set resolution scaling to 75.
  • RX Vega 64: use the medium preset, then turn off SSAO and DoF.
  • RX Vega 56: use the low preset, then set Texture Quality and Shadow Quality to lowest.
  • RX 580: use the medium preset, then turn off SSAO and DoF, and set resolution scaling to 75.

So is the campaign going to be 3 player co-op? I can see the strikes are but not see conformation on the rest of the content.

Yes, just like the first game all PvE activities can be done in groups of 3, with the raid in a group of 6 :)

I assume AMD need to work with Bungie to improve their drivers for this.

Vega 64 not even matching a 1070 (should be matching a 1080) and with much lower minimums to boot.

I might have to play around with the settings a little tonight to see what 4K would run like on my system (either via resolution scaling or by hooking it up to my main TV - the latter would make more sense).

Well I'm almost wishing I hadn't installed the PC Beta for Destiny. I've played D1 for years on the PS4 and was looking forward to D2 next week on my now PS4 Pro. Well sweet lord, it's like night and day on the PC. Even on my PC system 1080P with settings maxed out (dropped AA down 1 setting) it never dropped below 60FPS. It really did look so much better and the keyboard and mouse was amazing. I've already got my PS4 pre-ordered and but I can hand on heart say I'll be rocking the PC version as my main once it comes out. Very impressed Bungie. In fact I'm now looking at 4k monitors and GPU upgrade ;)

Lacky you are now the destiny guide for us PC players that never played D1 :D

Any concerns on content ? watched and read a few bits about concerns it might be being rushed out again like the first one ? i cant comment on this because i didn't play d1 ha.

Haha thanks mate, I do my best. While it has its faults I have a lot of love for D1 and put in a lot of hours, so fire away

Content wise, I think we will know for sure in a week or so when the console reviews come out. But for now I think it bodes well, the story mission + strike in the Beta seemed well polished and much better put together compared to Destiny 1. Like @KNiVES pointed out, they have already delayed it, so I don't think it feels rushed. Even though they're still not there with full open world, it looks like they have really tried hard to flesh out the free-roam etc on all the planets too.

@CptMorgans Yes there is a list here

D2 had already been delayed for a year... it was supposed to come out September 2016. Rise of Iron expansion for D1 was rushed out in its place as a stopgap.

There are plenty of content too, Bungie has said there are the same number of activities as all of Destiny 1 and its four expansions put together, except just one raid at launch instead of the four that D1 now has.

I actually hope there isn't. My friends and I always say if someone was to start playing Destiny 1 today and wanted to do all of the content they'd be so overwhelmed by everything.

Had a whirl on the three modes available last night. I quite enjoyed it. The pvp was a bit Meh, but the strike was great fun. Took me and two randoms a few goes to get the boss down, but once I realised how to dodge his aoe attack it was pretty straightforward.

My overwhelming impression was that this is just borderlands without the humour and with pvp added. Whether that's a bad thing remains to be seen, but it is literally the same formula. I enjoyed it, but I don't know whether I'd want to grind it for hours to get loot

The amount of content would be find as long as the game is structured around it. D1 right now has a lot of content but the quest chains are somewhat messy - unless you know what is what. It also doesn't help that pre Taken King Destiny was very light on actually telling you anything. The excuse that the story is in the Grimore was beyond weak - especially when it isn't even in the game/ explained what on earth Grimore even is...

This is mainly down to the game being restructured later down the line to better align the expansions with the main story (for example the Dark Below missions now are now incorporated into a quest line which also includes certain vanilla missions).

If D2 has comparable content to D1 right now it stands to reason that it will be structured correctly (although it wouldn't surprise me if there are still some questionable decisions)..

Judging from the beta experience so far (and a brief glimpse at the European Dead Zone) it seems Bungie have really doubled down on providing a lucid story / actual context to what and why we are there.

Bungie admitted they had this problem internally, funnily enough. If you watch the EDZ preview footage on youtube, it seems that every nook and cranny has different activities to do.
They made it so that it tapers up slowly - for example you don't get patrols and strike playlists until two thirds of the way into the story.

It(PVP) becomes a bit more interesting when you can change your loadout and customize everything a bit more.

Yeah, it's when you find something that works very well in PvP which is fun... Things like using Radiant Dance Machines and Mida Multi Tool together, Monte Carlo and the titan punch which grants overshield, Obsidian Mind and Bad Juju. Or especially for PvP, Nothing Manacles and Scatter grenades.

Any ideas why I can't set 4k (3840x2160) in the options? Max res it's giving me is 2560x1600
Loads of players are having this problem if it makes you feel any better. Nobody is sure what's causing it as it's happening to all sorts of configurations and setups.

My personal guess: try going to nvidia settings on your desktop and setting it to GPU scaling in display options.
