DirectX 12

Interesting indeed, so mantle could still be the go to api for the devs wanting more.

Said it before and I'll say it again, Mantle is going nowhere any time soon.

Depends on if those devs want to sell to a large number of customers or the small number of customers with Mantle compatible cards.

I imagine DirectX 12 will be the go to API for devs (like DX11 is now), Mantle will be an added extra (like OpenGL is, but with better performance).

Two thirds of the 47 Developers that Mantle currently has want to continue using Mantle beyond DX12 :)

This will most likely be the case, Mantle is extremely unlikely to become the industry standard as it will never truly be open and I don't think that the industry wants a return to the days of vendor-based graphics APIs.

I am hopeful for DirectX 12 and from what I've read on it so far, it has the potential to be a significant upgrade on DX11 (specifically, D3D12 has potential to be >> D3D11).

AMD will continue to keep Mantle in a 'closed beta' stage an added incentive to choose AMD over Nvidia.. Until DX12 launches, then AMD will open Mantle up and claim they are doing it for the industry and are the protagonist for non-propriety.

Sneaky sneaky from AMD :p

Both camps play dirty. Nvidia are just more upfront about it, make your own mind up whether it bothers you or not. Personally think they are just as bad as each other.

DX12 is a year and a half away yet, AMD would find it impossible to keep anything in BETA for that long.

Don't worry, Nvidia will get a look at it long before DX12 :)

I personally can't see devs investing time and money in Mantle when DX12 is fully running unless there is some monetary compensation from AMD.

Mantle is still better than DX12, its also still evolving. this is not just AMD PR, this comes from Game Developers, don't forget Mantle is as much a child of developers as it is AMD. Mantle is everything that Game Developers could ever want or need, they, Not Microsoft created it with AMD's help, and they continue to create it.

The Developers, the people we are talking about here, they own Mantle, its fate depends on them continuing with their own creation. Not you, not me, not Microsoft.

Agreed, once ATi/Nvida were fully up and running with OpenGL and later Direct3D developers were quick to drop Glide as 3DFX could use OpenGL too so it was just wasted development. Likewise I can see the same happening to Mantle once DX12 is firing on all cylinders as AMD/Nvidia can both use it so why would anyone waste the extra time, unless AMD have cash on the table.

I'm not sure how you can make this statement at this time.

Its not me making that statement

Because it will offer better performance, so any Dev wanting more can use Mantle. The Devs that already support Mantle dont need to pay anything they already have it in there game engines.

Making a new game now will be easier than before once DX12 and Mantle is running.

Take Crysis 4 DX12 to Mantle low cost and low time frame vice versa, then ported to PS4, Xbox one will already use DX12 so they already removed the Old API.
