DirectX 12

Well, in that case, these generalized "game developers" you speak of can't make such a statement either given that they haven't even used D3D12 yet (it's not even been released to game developers for early testing use AFAIK).

They can because DX12 is Mantle lol just not as low level. Because DX12 needs to take into account for AMD/Nvidia GPUs it cant possibly give the same performance like something designed for one Architecture like Graphics Core Next

Devs talked about this couple weeks ago and am sure Humbug will find it.

I hope you guys who feel they still will use Mantle when DX12 is fully running are correct. A lot of time and effort has gone into it from AMD, so would hate to see it fall by the wayside.

The biggest issue of it all (as I see it) is the sheer volume of users who "can't" use Mantle. Will devs still want to be investing time and money on such a minority of gamers and out of their own pocket?

Prove to me other wise? because a lot of Devs on Twitter think other wise. Why you think its very easy for them to port from one and other? Because there very much alike.

Sure Microsoft will agree with you :p Think i'll believe the Devs before anything else.

Just say hypothetically I agree with you, then why would they still support Mantle if Mantle is DX12?

That's not how proof works. You've made a claim - you prove it's true.

At a high level you could make the call they are the same, but you could make the same statement saying AMD cards are the same as Nvidia cards. Objectively at the high level they are both just graphics cards - but you would never consider them the same of course (for various reasons).

The same logic applies to your statement :)

You made a claim it isn't :p

Nice try on the wriggle but it isn't working. I actually said 'lol'. I didn't claim anything.

Show us the proof of your claims that DX12 = Mantle.

Indeed. You and I are the same. We're both humans after all :p.

So... it's the same API, but at a higher level and with slower performance.

Doesn't sound much like the same API to me!

Edit: however I can easily accept that they both try to reduce CPU overhead as in the quote by Gregster below.

You are saying Mantle is DX12 but Mantle will offer devs extra performance? That makes no sense. Surely if Mantle is DX12, then it will offer the same performance if it is the same thing?

Go back and read about supporting more GPUs and why mantle supporting one core will offer extra.

Since when have developers cared about maximising performance on PC? half of them can't even make a DirectX game without going to NVidia for help. They care more about compatibility than performance since PC games generally require far more after sales/technical support than consoles and games usually cost 50% less. Mantle WILL fail without continual heavy investment from AMD.

No doubt when Mantle does fail AMD will claim that NVidia were bribing developers not to use it or some such nonsense to deflect from their own lack of effort/financial backing.
