DiRT Rally Hits Steam Early Access

Anyone explain how this works in game, there are like slots for engineers, if i buy like 2 or 3 engineers, are they all active all the time ? i mean say i buy a perk for one that is for just for 4 wheel drive cars, and i have another engineer that has perks for 60's cars, do i have to chouse what engineer out of the 3 for a certain rally ? and as there are like 10+ different rally categories, how do i get a engineer for them all with only a few slots ? or do all engineers work on all cars regardless of perks ? and if that is the case, why do we need more than one engineer, cheers, nothing is explained as no manual i can see that explains all this.

I'd like to know also.

just buy a person select the perks for the relevant car you are upgrading.

they have three slots each when fully unlocked.just add the same perk to to each slot. then just drive. after so many miles ingame driven you will unlock more slots.

nice run in the renault 5 turbo on geufron forest #3 in world. annoying as i did a run after this i was 5 secs up on it but lack of concentration for split second meant i went field plowing :p

The perks help you upgrade quicker, perk slot1 by-5%, slot2-10%, slot3-15%

Example.
Crewchief perk slot1+2-British manufacture, Engineer1-perk slot1+2- ford fiesta rs rally, Engineer2-perk slot1+2-4wd, Engineer3-perk slot1+2-group year 2010

Ah ok, thx for explaining, i did think it was for how quick they fix your car, not like engine upgrades for each car, thx for putting me straight, cheers

The short twisty stuff is fine, the longer faster stuff is just a mess, the controls just don't feel responsive enough to switch from lock to lock. Just a complete mess with constant restarts needed, nothing like enjoyable even in the slightest.

It passes itself off as a sim and yet it feels nothing like driving in the slightest, I've driven big power 4wd cars on tarmac and it doesnt feel like driving on ice.

Im finding it massively difficult but massively rewarding.

Ive done countless restarts but there is something special about the rush I get when I complete a section faster than previous.

A home steering wheel is never gonna simulate a real car to a huge level, but its certainly effective enough to give me feedback when on necessary surfaces.

Have you tried project cars? That is completely different, the steering wheel feels a hell of a lot tighter on it, yet I dont enjoy it nearly as much.

getting your input right is the key thing.

i have talked to some who struggle doing this but once they get it right its like a new game.

what do you use to play the game ?

i maybe able to help to get it better.

i have also driven many of the cars ingame also owned them. as said you need to have you wheel set up right.

have you got soft lock on ?
what degrees of rotation you using ?
which wheel if it is a wheel?

Are you using a 360 pad?

If so l found certain stages a nightmare to do, but l like my driving games so bought a secondhand DFGT, its like night and day compared to the 360.

Do the same if you like driving games buy a secondhand DFGT.

Yeah I use a pad, I've nowhere to put a wheel and all the gubbins for it.

Ah I can understand why the game would be bloody nails then. I've not tried with pad but can imagine your annoyance cos even with a wheel it's certainly unforgiving.

Don't quite get it, IMHO. I'm playing on a pad with stock settings and don't have any serious complaints as to how cars behave. Some are more responsive than others, as it should be and driving at 100+MPH on loose surfaces should feel a bit twitchy and not perfectly responsive. Granted I'm not an expert with only 56h in since September but I find it really rewarding and easily the best rally driving experience ever. I think there's enough sim in it in comparison to other games in the genre.

It's unforgiving and punishing but that's part of the fun. If you're an experienced driver, and it seems you are, I can't see why you should have any problems with getting decent times on a pad. You might not be the fastest but still.

Tarmac in the game feels like driving on ice? I think it's the other way around, there's a bit too much grip:p

EDIT: Have you turned off all the assists?

Just bought this, it's downloading now. I've given up on Project Cars due to the terrible performance inconsistencies (from 7 to 100 FPS at various points in a race), so I was after a new driving game for the PC. That's the last time I buy anything crowd funded.

Got a Logitech wheel so I'm really looking forward to giving this a crack in 4 hours once the 26GB download finishes!

EDIT: Have you turned off all the assists?

I think I left ABS at 1 but all the others are off.

I am struggling to explain my problem, it feels like I cant get the pad to respond quick enough during fast sections when very quick steering inputs are needed, I've tried altering all the steering settings for the pad but I can't get it to feel "right" which is why I can't get any enjoyment out of it, it's like the car wont do what I want fast enough.

Ironically I find Sweden one of the easier surfaces, Wales is easily the worst and most horrific.

just ask on dirt forums for pad settings or steam. very good community and will help out. ;)

a wheel transforms the game. couldn't you get a wheel stand pro or something they fold up dont take much room at all. just a suggestion.

Could you tell me the stage you found the worst and the car you were driving (and your best time)? And also the average speed at which you were tackling those problematic sections if it's not a problem? I'd like to have a shot at it and try to replicate the issue. Maybe I'm just going too slow to notice:p
