DiRT Rally Hits Steam Early Access

1st attempt at a 2010 car, Pant Mawr Reverse in Polo, as you can see, total garbage.

you being to critical on yourself.remember i played 600 hrs. so that stage for eg. put on personal bests. then just repeat it and check the sector times.gradually you will get faster and fine the natural lines.

once you cant get any faster. then start messing with set ups for cars.defaults until then will be fine.

its a gradual progress but when you knock off those odd secs you know then you are getting better and that is what pushes you on ;)

the first gate you crashed at you have to tap break come left the car will jump right and you pull through the gate. it takes practice i know i hit em enough :p

Pant mawr or pant mawr reverse are very technical fast so great practicing stages.

Just tried that in the Polo and only managed 3:16 so far from the fastest. Dg is about 36 secs faster than me:eek: Made a crapload of mistakes and was really struggling. I've changed the pad settings from stock and it has made everything worse:mad:

You were right though, Wales is hard and incredibly frustrating. I just didn't spend that much time driving there and that's why I thought it wasn't that bad.

And for some reason I have trouble with the Polo:confused: Have to go back to stock settings and try again.

Woops! My post does read that way. Using a DFGT, not the sidewinder. Sold the sidewinder years ago! It's pretty good on the DFGT. I also set linearity to -3 and it does seem even better.

lol, no worries MSTRBKR, try it with increased toe angle as well +1 right> car set up> click on suspension front+rear.

you could try the mini countryman it may work for you. lock all differentials to the strongest.then try short as possible gears.or long as possible.

its very stable car and often underused.

fiesta rolls a lot but very quick.same as above lock the differentials to strongest try short or longest gears.suit how you like and what handles best.

polo i dont touch the diffs. i just try the gearing.i just did a few runs did 2:40 on there with long gearing to the end.

Dg, any tips on how to knock off a couple of seconds of that 3:16 at Pant Mawr Reverse in the Polo on a pad? Apart from "be awesome, like me":D Those new pad settings make everything worse so I'll roll back to default and try again.

Doubt I'll be able to knock off much, I just make too many mistakes and sometimes get too scared to push harder. I'll try to record my run later.

just use short or long gears.that should give it you.no need to go in advanced just set shortest to left or longest to right.

i was going ot record a run so you can see sector times.

all you want to do is put personal bests to compare . run first sector if you up carry on. if you not restart.do sector 2 and so on.

I'm using the Mini with default settings on Paskuri sprint, afternoon clear. 3.30ish is my best time. My mate shaved a lot of that and hes down to about 3.17. I need to have a go at changing my settings. I know I can go faster but every time I beat a previous run I get too excited and crash massively. lol.

Finished off Doom 3 BFG, so started doing a few customs in this, using the Mini Cooper, seems a decent little car to start off with, able to handle it better than the others, and its fine on a single card, have it capped to 100fps :D

tighten both diffs on it to strongest and use longest gears.

I'm intrigued that you say to tighten up the diffs, the only way I can feel comfortable up to now is by slackening them all right off.

I'll try your way and see what happens.

Thanks, I'll give it a go:) So far, the best was 3:16 after three attempts with those screwed up settings and generally being a scaredy cat. I'll change gear ratios as you say and revert to stock pad settings, maybe it'll help a bit.

I'm also tempted to try in the Mini, my favourite 2010 car so far. Has some more weight to it than the rest and seems more stable (and sounds fantastic, as a bonus). The last time I drove it I got a pretty good result (for myself, that is:p):

EDIT: Also, is it just me, or is the Polo a bit more of a handful than the rest of 2010??

nah polo is easy to drive . its mainly that or fiesta is fastest in 2010 class unless you are a bit more skilled the mini can do very well on certain tracks.

So I tried the mini, I tried what you said DG with the diffs and it felt ok but the offs were MASSIVE. Slackened them back all the way off and managed a 3:11 but with one fairly big mistake which required a reverse.

I know what you mean about the Mini, it feels more stable but that's because it obviously has way more understeer built in, I found myself using the handbrake more to help bring it around where as the Polo feels like it will do more on the throttle.

Beat my time over first section... Beat time over second.. Crashed and two wheels came off.

Crashed first section. Crashed first section
. Crashed first section.... Fml lol.

Must be the new settings, then. I really like it, anyways. The Hyundai is nice as well.

Can't wait to mess with the settings and try again. I'm probably the slowest driver in this thread, have some catching up to do:p
