DiRT Rally Hits Steam Early Access

Yay:D

Short gears, tweaked settings (a bit better but stll weird, I guess default works best). Still too many mistakes and I'm too scared to floor it in the second forest section:mad:

Nothing to worry about, Dg is only 00:27.133 faster:D :eek::eek:

EDIT: Trying long gears now

the only part in the forest but is the little jump on a blind right just before you come out.before you go in stay on the left inner line and just go flat out :p it seems scary but you just hold that line until that middle jump which is often **** or bust :D

the error 41 issue best looking on steam or on official dirt rally forums and posting. http://forums.codemasters.com/categories/dirt-games-general-discussion

Gonna try that:D Just did virtually the same time on my first try in a Mini with short gears and tightened diffs. Really stable, your settings are top:) Still lots of room to improve as it was hardly a clean run;p I'd be happy with anything around 3:00 but shaving off those six seconds might require some luck as I'm really crap at this game:p

Two really annoying thing:

1) Not being able to go back into the service area and alter settings from the pause menu, you have to retire, restart the session and make alterations, then go again, such a complete ball ache.

2) The constant restarts mean I only know half the course because I'm not getting anywhere, so when I do have a clean run the second half is complete gash because I don't know the lines.

Getting a clean run is about the same odds as winning the lottery at the minute, I'm getting bored with constantly doing the first 1m 30s of the same course over and over. God knows how you've poured 600 hours into this, I've had enough after 10.

Go slowly first so that you know the entire stage and gradually build up speed in your next attempts. You don't need to know all the lines, you should be able to pull off most corners decently enough to reach the finish line by pace notes alone.

Or just drop it if you don't like it and have to restart that much. Playing games shouldn't ever be a chore. The game can be frustratingly punishing and has a steep learning curve. Some people enjoy doing constant runs in order to knock off half a second of their record and failing numerous times, some don't:p I was also sceptical after a few hours but it turned out I've spent more time with this game than with any other title in my Steam library, including Witcher 3 and MGS V.

It is a chore, feels like I've wasted a whole evening and got nowhere.

I can do pace notes, but they're generic, some 4/3/2s are different to others so they're only really a guide.

Pant Mawr I've given up with, if I manage to make it past the two hoops then it's just guesswork through the forest, car never feels under my control it's just bouncing all over the place and only luck if it stays on the track.

it is hard but that is why it is so rewarding when it comes together ;)

stick at it. also all you do is stay on the track then resume then alter the set up you don't need to retire and you will be on the same track all the settings :)

what you have to realize as you gradually get better and better it wont be so hard and then you really start to enjoy every hair you scrape off your pb.

come watch vajb now with the dirt rally community most of us are watching.

https://www.twitch.tv/vajbtv i believe he is giving some dirt copies away tonight aswell in a minute

Il give it ago.

Yeah i would, doesn't work for me in Crossfire on the Crimsons, when it loads an event, instead of starting, it just blue screens and restarts, yet worked fine in Crossfire on the 15.9.1 BETAs that i had on previously, apart from bombing back to the desktop randomly on those when starting an event, due to it having probs with Crossfire+FreeSync (which im also running).

Ive got no issues at all running it on a single card, and a single handles it fine at 1440p, Ultra settings, have it capped at 100fps, and it pretty much sits there.

Really enjoying it now using the Mini Cooper, i can handle that one :D

I dont see how to resume and keep/alter settings, at the end of a run it just says restart, replay, or continue - restart just starts you again without being to alter the set up. How do i exit the run back to the service area to change stuff?

Hardest thing i find with a controller is the fast straighter sections, it's barely possible to hold it flat because it just requires constant steering input to keep it out of the verge.

I tryed that and does exactly the same black screen then returns to desk top when I start an event, I seem to have found a way round it though by going into the benchmark and running that for couple of seconds and exiting, then when I start an event it works.

after yesterdays daily which i did pretty poor at in the 95 subaru i thought i would atleast give it a proper run today. daily was won by 2:42 yesterday so plase with this run which is a new pb for the colin mcrae scooby.

lancia is quicker but for a scooby run was pretty nice.

That section after the hoops, there's just no way you could do that with a controller.

Even though I have nowhere to put one or know how I would set it up with my current seating/gaming arrangement, you've got me looking at second hand wheels because there's just no way I'm getting even 50% of the enjoyment out of this game with a pad.

some people do it on mouse and keyboard and set top times :D

i would look at getting a logitech dfgt secondhand though.its the cheapest way in and they are decent.

For some reason I do better (although still not great) at Sweden, had my first go with a Group B and had more luck then Wales.

Been much faster but dont have proof.
