Discussion On The ATI Radeon 5*** Series Before They Have Been Released Thread

Indeed, which is why Nvidia updated the 260 with the 216 variant, to go up against the 4870..

Yes, and then ATI released the 4890's, then Nvidia the 285's, then ATi the 5870's etc - where do you stop?

You can only make comparisons at one moment in time - and the fact is when ATi released the 4850/4870's they were faster and cheaper than the nearest Nvidia equivalent (excluding the 9800GX2 but that's where the 4870x2 comes in).

It's usually when people can't handle their precious nVidia not being worshipped.

He's most probably a banned member with a new account, or a current member with a second account.

There are a load of people who can't understand the difference between the truth and bashing.

I'd trust you can tell my post is truthful and not needless bashing.

Though it looks like you can't tell the truth any more if it's not highly positive about nVidia.

Hey, I guess I'm a fanboy for discussing the big problem with all those nVidia mobile GPUs failing.

i posted earlier about Nvidias woes and not producing DX11 and yields being high etc and apparently i get accused of reveling in there missfortune.

oh how nice it is to bathe under an ATI sun for once :D

and no i'm not a fanboy

People are really just pulling numbers out of various orifices now.

Not at all, that is the price i've been told they've been given from their supplier, still no word on the 50's pricing, hence I haven't speculated.

The exact words were:

HeX says:
what are they going for?
**** says:
between £270 / £280 + VAT

So *shrug* i'm only going on what i've been told.

Don't mind kylew he thought it was going to be $199 + $299 which was far out there thinking. £280 + VAT is an accurate estimation. And the dutch site had it for €320 = $399 + dutch VAT. So that's how the numbers add up.

I'm being blunt again :p

I wasn't really having a go at you, I know loads of sites are speculating on price, but a lot of it is people taking a guess so they can feel smug about it if it turns out to be true, loads of sites appear to be doing that.

280+VAT is the worst yet though.

How funny, people moaning that the 5870 is marginally/just as fast as a 295 and will prob be cheaper, if it was NV's 5870 I guarantee the same people would be excited.

Wonder if NV will take the 5870 and rename it 380 to take their renaming to a new level :D

Yeah it's terrible, nVidia deserve being ragged on at the moment, they're doing a lot of nasty stuff, but to instantly be called a fanboy for stating it is terrible.

They're basically saying that what nVidia is doing is perfectly fine and no-one should have an opinion on it if it's negative.

They obviously can't say no-one should have any opinion on it, because the very fact they're posting about it shows they've got an opinion about. :o

this is what my friend told me who works at sapphire incase people have missed it

Hi

Cards will be officially launched on Wednesday.

There will be stock in UK on Wednesday - albeit small amounts....

OCUK will definitely have some, as their's arrived in their warehouse today - they had the biggest allocation in the UK which was the huge sum of 60 pieces !!!

I was told yesterday that we were seeing over 25k in 3D Mark '06 - this is all I have seen so far....

Apparently it is outperforming gtx295 quite happily, with the added bonus that it is a DX11 part....

Our's ships with a coupon for Dirt2 (out near Xmas) and a full copy of Battlestations Pacific....

not too sure what the end user price will be - but I imagine (and don't quote me!!) it will be around £280 inc VAT

Need any more info please PM me :-)

Cheers

and when mentioning about yields

from what we know Nv are pretty uptight about this !!

The upcoming G300 should be pretty quick - but probably not out until 2010 so we have a bit of breathing space for the first time in a few years !!

Currently Nv hold about 70% market share in discreet graphics in the UK - so we have a load of room to grow !!

5870x2 is codenamed "Hemlock" and we are told should be out by end October - albeit in small numbers....

Yield on 5870 is very good apparently - and we should have more and more stock arriving over the next 2 weeks - if you couple that with 5850 launching (and shipping next week), and "Juniper" - 5750/5770 coming by the end of October as well we will have DX11 40nm parts from well under $100 all the way through the range....

I find it best to form opinions of people from my own experiences. Other peoples few points are valid but I find it can taint yours accidently.

Both companies have issues my view, my radeon gives me grief at times, but nvidias cover up of the gpu issues dont indear themselves to me. WTB good products and good drivers :(
