does anyone think a 5850 will be faster than 2 4850?

if i heard right the 5800 series are 2x faster than the 4800 series?

If those crysis benchmarks are correct, then a 5850 should be faster than a GTX295 too.

I can imagine that a 5870 will be around 20% faster than a 5850, and that 5870 is looking to be a fair amount more than 20% faster than a GTX295.

I still don't get these prices though, how could they sell a 5870 for $399 and the X2 for $599?

5870X2 won't cost that much more to produce?

They don't want to humiliate Nvidia even more so they have to price their top card the same as Nvidias top card. ;)

So what is the deal with display port? will adapters be available for converting this output to DVI?

If I am going to consider buying more monitors then I would like to use my existing one...

The X2 model will be released a couple months after the 5870, by which time the 5870 won't be $399 any more and will probably have dropped somewhere into the the $325-350 price range. Meaning that while the X2 will still possibly be cheaper than crossfiring 2 5870s it won't be $200 cheaper.

The other possibility of course is that the X2 model will be made from 2 5850 gpus rather than the 5870s, however AMD haven't yet used a cut down version of their cards to create the X2 model (unlike nVidia), which makes this scenario unlikely.

Well yeah, except it goes against their claims of not making any cards that sell above $599 and since that claim, their non-X2 cards have been around half the price of their X2 cards.

Their X2s are supposed to be coming a few weeks later, I can't see them dropping the 5870 prices $75-100 in such a short space.
