Doctor Who

Did you ignore the end?

Hurt and tennents doctors would have no memory of the events thus thinking they blew up the planet. Thus staying who they were.

The Time Lords become evil inside the time bubble imo.

That does not change what happened and that was yet another lame writing direction.
It was a bad episdoe from tthe start. It dodnt need rewitting of time. Just hsow us what happened.

Ah right, there wasn't - the 13th "doctor" was the War Doctor who for what ever reason doesn't count as a regeneration.

Paul Mcgann (8th) became john hurt in the mini-episode aired recently, so war doctor is number 9. That makes Eccleston, Tennant and Smith 10,11 and 12 respectively. Peter Capaldi is number 13. That's assuming there are no other secret doctors anyway. Moffat said recently that 9th regen isnt counted as a 'doctor'. Not sure how that works

when both Tennent's and Smith's doctor both decided than Hunt's doctor is a 'proper doctor' and does count

so yeah. confused there.

Can somebody explain: originally, the regeneration limit was 13 right? Did this change when the universe was reset?
It's been explained in previous stories (going back to Trial of a Timelord or one of the other Gallifrayen episodes around then), that the ruling council can gift additional regeneration cycles for exceptional service.
From memory in one of the stories the Master was given an extra regeneration, and in another he was aiming for a full regeneration cycle.
There have also been stories i think, where the master was trying to steal another timelord's remaining regenerations (I think a bunch of master stories have basically been about him trying to get more lives because he's wasted them in failed attempts to gain power).

IIRC basically between the TV series and the books, it's sort of implied that the 13 regenerations is a cultural and technical measure, imposed to help limit the population.
In one of the books for example the Doctor goes to his original "house" where you find out the timelords are basically created from a semi random mix of DNA by technology that is part of the house, to sustain it's numbers - I think the story was partly about how there was a potential uncounted/documented "birth".

They'll fudge a retcon around the regeneration limit when the need arises.
Didn't the weapon represented by Rose Tylor's image basically say "your punishment is that you'll live", suggesting that the weapon has some way of accessing the same powers the council could use - it also ties into the way that Rose when she had the power of the heart of the Tardis was able to bring Captain Jack back to life (although in a rather less controlled manner).

I think I've said it before but the impression I've got a few times since the restart of the series and the time war, is that given the link all the Tardis units have to Timelord's power system, it could be that the Tardis itself has some ability to help with regenerations (also ties in with Pond's daughter getting some regenerative abilities due to conception in the tardis), possibly something the council did to make their fighting personal more effective (ties into the "additional regenerations for exception services" neatly - if you're sending out warriors in Tardis units knowing they're likely to get badly hurt, the ability to regenerate would be handy).

I hope when Peter is the Doctor it gets better, might start watching again if it does.

It needs to become darker. Writing needs to get better, yes he's a time traveler, but stop filling in massive plot holes with junk writing. Just don't make those holes in the first place.

I understand torchwood was meant to be for the older people, but missed that, didn't get into the new dr who until about halfway through.

I'm still not sure how I feel about the episode. So we can go back and change any event if it's needed but not others (like rescuing Amy and Rory). Also it got out of having to make a difficult choice where there was no right answer. The idea that there is "always" a way is nice in theory but I can't help feel this was a big move into more lighter territory when I was hoping the opposite would be true. Also theres massive conflicts with the Time Lords last apperance as mentioned earlier.

But if you don't watch it now how do you know what its like? :D

Enjoyed the episode thought they did well bringing 3 doctors together and it not been a complete mess.

As for plot holes its DR Who and time travel lol Its full of plot holes but thats never been a problem given the type of show.

In other news Lister had his appendix out twice! :D
