Economic cars

Well it started out with something like 90bhp apparently.

What extra power do you get from a turbo diesel by rebuilding the engine?

Would a re-map even give something with that little power to start off with almost a 50% increase?

Laughably though that is the Prius owner. I've had my car for over 4 years but had to look the 0-60 up which shows how much I care about that figure :p

Had to do the same lol, Didn't even know it was sub 9 seconds.

So 90bhp to 180bhp by adding an intercooler and remapping it, doubling in other words. Wonder if you can get 360bhp from a 320d or 490bhp from a 530d using this method?

Thread is full of lulz. Love it when people justify spending thousands of pounds to attain high MPG figures, they rarely look at what they already have, how much the "upgrade" to, at best, a boring car will cost and how much they will "save". Then it transpires they do 5k annual mileage

O RLY?

Got a source for that?

Yeah actually, I'm a long time member of the 206 owners club, it's well known on from 206 enthusiasts that the 180GTi is only 160bhp.

No, not just from those things, you need an oilcooler and a lot of other new engine parts like thottle bodies, clutch and a gearbox from a 406

Rebuilding the engine would gain lost bhp because it's highly doubful that a 10 year old car is still running factory bhp

Where the hell have these Prius owning folks come from?

Why are they so deluded? Is the electric motor the new "V-tec just kicked in yo!" ?

They probably looked in on the thread as its an 'economical car thread' not a 'spec me a fun, powerful and fast 0 to 60 car' thread.

Not everyone cars about 0 to 60.

The reason this turned into a debate on performance is because a Prius owner came into the thread - previously not about performance - and said:

Yes folks, the Prius has excellent acceleration

I have no idea where the Prius owners in this thread get their ideas from. The car is slow, achingly slow.
Now, before you wade in with the usual "you haven't driven one" crap, well, I have. One of my frinds owns a G2 one and I've driven it on several occasions. It's a reasonably nice drive because it's so quiet but seriously, it is in no way fast to accelerate. It's not even slightly fast. It's sorta auto diesel Focus fast. Which isn't terrible but could never ever in a million years of driving be called fast.

So, there we go. An opinion from someone who's driven one and who owns and has owned many, many sub 6s cars.
Although, IMO, all normal cars are slow as mud compared to bikes.

Typical BMW driver response! :p

I think some of you seriously need to look at the 0-60 of the cars you drive before taking the mick regarding hybrid cars

OK. My current car has a published 0-60 time of 6.3s. Some car magazine test drives have shown it to be quicker.

My girlfriend's current car has a 0-60 in 8.9 seconds.

Hell, my 1989 Golf GTi had a 0-60 time of 9.0 seconds!

The Prius is not fast. Not by modern standards and not by 22 years ago standards.

My Honda Insight has a published figure of 0-62 mph. That's 2mph faster than all you 0-60 losers! :p

Ooh - and the IMA hybrid electric motor is a bit like the KERS in formula 1!

Roflcopters.

They are proper quick though, I had to drop several cogs on the motorway to keep up and stop myself being embarrassed infront of a woman in my car. We stopped at a petrol garage were he gave me the thumbs up and we had chat about what he had under the bonnet.

Do you mean 'CVT'? I think most of us know what a CVT is. Except you, it would seem. I beleive 'CTV' is a childrens television programme perhaps?

Aww dude I think you just won the game ^^

I'm not really into cars but when I flaw my Prius is does have some oomph the electric motor kicks in to help the petrol engine

Can't realy fault this statement as the motor engaging raises the cars bhp from 98 to 134 which has got to feel like a turbo kick, it is however still god awful slow :P

I think some of you seriously need to look at the 0-60 of the cars you drive before taking the mick regarding hybrid cars , some of the new Mondeo's are 0-60 12sec, Ford Focus 12.6,
The golf 1.8gti is wait for it 9.6 seconds & NON of those are automatic

but in all honesty why the big deal over a second or 2 ??

Ok looked at it, my car is a 21 year old auto and has a 0-60 of <6 seconds :P

And on one final note: (been wanting to use this for ages)
