Ed China leaving Wheeler dealers :(

There was one where Mike sold a car to a guy from Cyprus who's friend was coming down to pick it up for him and take it out there after the money had been wired.. I thought "hang on, that's a classic car theft/fraud con".

For me everything was good until they moved to the states and then it started to go downhill. Now it seems that the yanks want to ruin it altogether which seems to be typical with them. Ed's workshop bits were the best part about the show so reducing those and the fact that I can't stand Ant Anstead means that's Wheeler Dealers over and done with for me.

Mike: I'm going to advertise the car for a healthy £15,000, to hopefully snag us a respectable £5000 profit.

Buyer: I'll give you £10,000.

Mike: You're avin' a laugh! No, I can't take less than £12,500. All the work that's gone in to it...

Buyer: Go on, I'll give you £11,000 cash.

Mike: Cash? Today? Go on then! You've just bought yourself a cracking little <insert car here>

Edd:

But equally, when Mike is buying a car.. Seller wants £10k. Most people would offer what, £8.5 or something? Mike offers 5. Does seem to work though!

I've always felt pretty sure the actual price was agreed before hand then vajazzled up on camera to look like Mike got a good deal.

some episodes were god damn bad but the only thing that made me watch it was edd tbh.mike brewers input is basically.edd i got this wreck you fix it ill have a full breakfast come back when all work is done or half way through mock what you done and then ill make a handsome profit which is always literally nothing ! :D

Shame he's leaving but wheeler dealers hasn't been the same since they moved to the US.

Could watch him working on cars all day though, would be great if he did some more in-depth stuff on his YouTube channel. Obviously not real time but you could get a few episodes out of 1 restoration.

The one episode I know anything about (and it's third hand) is that the lady who "bought" the car at the end was the wife of the original owner. i.e. they needed a specific car, it was offered by the owner for use in the show, they used it and gave it back.

I saw an old episode the other week where the car was being sold on ebay. Mike went to take a look and asked how much the seller was hoping for who said £5k or whatever, and that bidding was up to £4200 with a day to go. Mike offers him £3800 to take it away that day and the nutcase accepts!
Madness I tells ya.

Will miss Ed, but he's done the right thing imo. He's so talented that it felt like he had his wings clipped just doing what he did. I'm sure we'll be seeing much more of him now in bigger and better stuff.

When the team used to build stuff on Top Gear like amphibious vehicles and hovercrafts, I always wondered what sort of job Ed could have made of it.

Brewer and his laughable selling "skills" always makes me cringe and also they go on about the car cost x, the parts cost y but conveniently forget the use of Edds fully equipped workshop for free and that they often get good deals from suppliers.

More often than not the"profit" they make wouldn't cover the monthly rent on their workshop.

I lost interest in Wheeler Dealers a long time back because of Brewer, I look forward to whatever Edd does next and hope it's similar but minus the idiot.

I liked Ed, and could tolerate Mike, but yeah, as soon as it went to the US, it started going downhill..

What I liked about Ed,
1. He showed some really practical DIY jobs which shows how some stuff is worth attempting yourself.
2. I loved how he showed different bits of kit (like that used to skim brake discs) that helps you understand how garages do these things
3. They did a complete mix of cars and jobs, so in total they've done pretty much every aspect you'd every tackle in a car.

Although there are some things I don't like about Ed,

1. He might often clean something up and then screw in a rusty bolt..
2. His eye for detail in general was questionable, in the last series, he put bonnet stripes (hood stripes I guess) on the car, but they where so obviously mis-aligned with the bonnet badge/emblem that it looked awful.

It was also pretty much the only show that offered practical advise. I never knew those palm ratchets even existed till edd showed them on a show. They have been a godsend when working in tight spaces. In fact I blame the show for getting my wallet out several times for all the handy gadgets he showcased.

It used to be great to watch and very encouraging for the DIY mechanic. Ed has always been very knowledgeable but as the years have gone one, budgets have increased and the show has got further and further away from its 'home mechanic' roots.

I don't blame Ed for leaving, he has stuck to his guns. The essence of the show has vastly changed from what it was, I personally found myself recording it and skipping forward to the bits where Ed is doing a bit of work.

Social media is saying MB has been receiving death threats and all sorts. Shame its got to that point, he doesn't deserve it but getting Ant Anstead onboard won't really help If the show moves away from the actual mechanical work.
