*****EGOSOFT TNBT (X Rebirth)****

Well in essence yeah but to actually do the mod it was harder to figure out how to use the replace command stuff i had never done before in xml.

Gave this a week or so to stew before loading it up. Made it all the way through the energy cell mission without a crash - everything working as planned except as soon as I'd finished the mission, had a CTD. I was physically moving to hit the F5 key as it went too!. Reload from a much earlier save and get through to the mission again, quick-saving as I progressed, and now the station I need to sell the cells to is occupied permanently by another trade ship which will not budge no matter how long I wait. Load the old save and get back and the same happens again. Looks like it's going to be a little while before I give it another go! Seems like a lot of trading bugs at the moment, and these are real showstoppers in the campaign. I'd do free play but the campaign essentially seems to be a tutorial and none of the controls are remotely intuitive so far!

Ouch so it's not just user scores then level headed reviewers are also slating it. Such a shame I was really looking forward to this, on the plus at least it will get discounted sooner rather then latter by which time mods and patches should have this game at least to a playable standard.

One possible outcome....

Egosoft go bust and on their way out the game gets added to a Humble Bundle.

LOTS of people buy it for peanuts and the modders have even more incentive to turn it into a great game.

Whatever the outcome, it's going to be a long time before I can probably call it a "decent" game.

Given the speed of the modding community & how frequent the patches have been appearing, i reckon it'll be sorted & a decent game within 3 - 4 months, which isn't bad going if you consider the state it shipped in.

This was posted on the Egosoft forums. It gave me a giggle so thought I'd share:

LOL... I continue to be amazed that there are actually more than a few people saying the game is "good" or even "playable".

I have like 70 hours into the thing... and the only thing remotely finished is the basic engine that allows you to fly around.

EVERYTHING ELSE IS BROKEN ENTIRELY.

There are 4 "X's" right?

Trade - Trade scripts are entirely broken... best you can do is manually fly around and manually trade.

Fight - Ships (mostly yours) don't even shoot back when attacked. You could create an armada that would get wiped out by one pirate because none of your ships would fight. 100% broken.

Build - You can build stations... with hours of manually flying around and looking for crap, since trade is totally broken. But once they are built, they don't run properly... because like all the rest of the scripts in the game, management scripts are totally broken.

Think - Think about what? I guess what to do once you realize every aspect of the game is broken? You sure can't think about the game quests because there is just basically the brief tutorial and it also breaks every few steps.

Seriously... I guess there are just a lot of people who like flying around the pretty space and maybe pinging the universe for space containers to make money. For them, I guess that qualifies as "good"...

Trade - insults with other community members, or tips how to improve performance
Fight - with steam for refund, or the overwhelming feeling of hopelessness
Build - your patience and knowledge of xml save editing.
Think - before you preorder next time

Haha, there is a lot of truth in that. Egosoft must have been in quite a state to release it like this. Why not just use the old engine and release X4? The modders are doing an amazing job as ever. In a few months time this should be in a much better state. I cant see this saving egosoft.

woot i just got a refund to my steam wallet for this game, took about 4 replies from steam before they gave me it :)

just in time for the sale :)

I do feel cheated a put a lot of effort trying to find a good game but there is none. I played 17 hours though so I doubt I would get a refund.
