*** Elden Ring ***

Yeah, this is annoying. I'll be really miffed if it doesn't run well. Seems it's impossible to get games running as they should on release these days.

The PC frame rate drops look super bad, I bet this is to do with DRM. I remember playing the demo on PS4 and it seems to run rather smoothly considering it's only PS4.

I doubt it's DRM based, they've never used any in the past. Only thing protecting them is what comes with the Steam launcher. This time around they have Easy Anti-cheat, although it works perfectly well in other games I play.

Yes I've seen even more reviews now since yesterday saying how bad performance is on PC - stuttering, low fps, framedrops and poor hitbox registration. Probably best to wait a few months before buying to see if these issues get fixed - looks like another release of an unfinished game.

I was really looking forward to this but the 60fps cap and the fact you need a controller to play properly (like dark souls) is putting me off

I'd say the intelligent thing to do is to wait and see what effect the day 1 patch, which has the performance fixes in, makes, given that none of the reviews you have read will have had those fixes in. See what the feedback is after that patch.

The Eurogamer / digital foundry initial comments as per there article are with the day 1 version 1.02 patch already applied.

Great, so the only time I decide to actually grab a game on release because it seems to be worth the money, it turns out to run like ****.

I'll keep that in mind, back to CDKeys and discounted stuff:p

I read a different review to Eurogamer that said the day 1 patch made no difference to performance. I can grit my teeth for the stuttering but it's having to use a controller that's the issue for me

flicked through some streams playing PC and they all seem fine? are the issues as bad as some are making them out?

If it's to do with caching, then the longer you play the less the problems are present. They'll pop up again when you encounter new areas and enemies though.
