*** Elden Ring ***

I still proclaim that Dark Souls 2 Scholar of the First Sin was the best. I don't know if I have the patience to play through Elden Ring. At some point in life, the feeling you're starting to play more Japanese video game torture starts to wear.

I played DS to death and when DS2 came out i hated it, finished it and left it for dead. DS3 came out and loved it, played it to death also. Then recently i watched LobosJr on Twitch doing a DS2 play through, and it made me go back to it, and i loved it! More so than DS3 which amazed me!

Game is atleast more playable with Flawless Widescreen!

120fps / Wide FOV

Still can't get past the ugly graphics ( on high/maximum ) and weird mouse camera feeling

Game looks like ass, and what's with the Camera it feels off.....

100/100
10/10

hahaha YEH RIGHT! Like I said bs

Have to say unfortunately so far I agree. It may grow on me, but it's feeling like a weak game.

If you want open world dark souls, this is a 10/10 for that. But in comparison to other games? No way near. For instance, when the next elder scrolls game comes out, or even skyrim, can people really say that this game is better in every way then those games?

Graphics are fine, but not great (on xbox Series X) art is lovely, conversation weak, motivation weak, story so far, weak.

Would people say its far to compare this to jedi fallen order? That was a similar style how you fovut enemies, but the story was better, sound better, visuals etc.

The only good thing I'd say that this game has is the reward for over coming a hard thing. But I'm finding myself wanting to grind an area to kill easy enemies, rest at grace, repeat until I level up and it's manageable.

Will keep pushing ahead and may change my mind.

Youve just explained a souls game, they are not for everyone.

Agreed and of course. I guess i was hoping for a more friendly souls games, with great emphasis on story. They have these great big worlds, almost entirely empty. Just these random enemies walking around in specific spots for often no reason.

I think I'd like it if it was possible to put on very easy mode for a while until I get the mechanics and the turn up difficulty as I progress and want to get a better reward for playing

If you stick with it then it's quite rewarding. They do have a story, you just have to kinda get right into it and maybe watch some you tube lore vids

I think an open world dark souls was what they were aiming for, so in that respect they hit the target. I dont think when they were designing Elden Ring they were trying to be a rival for Skyrim, just as when the next Elder Scrolls game comes out it wont be designed to rival an open world Dark Souls game. They're two quite different genres really.

I wouldnt compare Elden Ring to Jedi Fallen Order, Jedi FO isnt really an open world game per se, its actually rather linear and on rails, as you would expect really as its more about telling a story than open world games tend to be.

I think this is much better then Skyrim which has a fairly static world, floaty combat and just turns into follow the quest marker.

If you are looking for hand holding story/combat with tons of dialogue the souls games are not for you.. I love that there is minimal dialogue and more gameplay and the story you have to figure out for yourself. Games have way too much dialogue these days, fine for RPGs like Deus Ex but nowadays every game has too much e.g. Dying Light 2.

Bought it yesterday, played for ~10 hours so far, the exploration and open world stuff is ok, but the actual content of killing bosses, nope sorry if I wanted to beat my head against a wall I'd probably enjoy the challenge, but I don't they are just an endless source of frustration as the clunky movement and slow combat makes them horrible for me.

Oh and the fps/stutter issues, what's that all about!

Part of the beauty of Elden Ring is the open nature of the world and the freedom to explore, and I think that is the key to enjoying this game, you need to explore don’t follow the paths laid out by the grace markers you really do need to go off the beaten path and dig around to find the secrets that are dotted around. If you come across a dungeon, cave or whatever and don’t have time explore it, mark it on the map and come back to it, the same with any enemy you aren’t levelled or geared to deal with.

I can’t really comment a lot on the story as I’m not far enough in, but with these types of games a lot is usually left up to the player to unearth or fill in the blanks and personally I’m okay with that.

As for the combat, no denying it’s brutal but this was expected with it being a souls game. For those that aren’t used to it and expected to steam roll enemies it may come as a bit of a shock, but ultimately as you start to work out the enemies patterns/capabilities you learn how to defeat them and the feeling of accomplishment when you do is extremely rewarding.

With the most recent patch it may only have included a couple of updates but the change to the feel of the mouse made a big difference to me, the controls now feel much better and I’ve tweaked my mouse/keyboard settings to my preferences. Still can’t get used to the dodge/jump buttons which I’ve left as default.

I guess I foolishly expected more story given George r r martin was involved. what did he even do, given the game has about 100 spoken words :p

Story in souls games is told through item descriptions and sometimes NPCs. However, Elden Ring has so many NPCs that in comparison, it's extremely story rich. I assume George R R Martin helped with lore and so on.

It is, without a doubt, one of the best games I've ever played. I'm 17 hours in and loving every moment.

i am about 11 hours in and absolutely loving it so far but that no surprise to me having spent probably 2000+ hours on Souls games over the years  For me the game feels very very much like an upgraded version of Dark Souls 3 mixed with a touch of Shadow of the Colossus when in the open world on horse back .... Performance wise it is rough in the 1st few hours with frame stuttering but does seem to calm down later on as you progress ( playing on i9-10900k & 3090 Strix ). Upon entering Limgrave for the 1st time i was a bit overwhelmed with the size of the place and wasn't actually sure what to do or where to go but then remembered about the Wiki pages for these games and after having a scan has put me on the right path and given me some sort of direction, have currently done most of west and east Limgrave and just about to venture south before then actually going to the 1st legacy dungeon Stormveil where i should be around Lv 30+ , am currently 24 and that's from roaming around and online play in the caves and catacombs :D

I assume you're new to how these games work. Every Soulsborne game is this way. You have to read item descriptions, observe and pick out story bits from the environment and all the rest. Yet the lore usually goes very deep. That's what separates Soulsborne from all of these "story-driven" games incapable of setting up interesting lore/story without bombarding you with 30min dialogues and cinematics on every occasion that often serve no purpose apart from padding or being bombast. And I'm saying that as a person who enjoys dialogues and story cinematics in games.

Take a look at how deep Bloodborne lore goes and the stuff people noticed, yet the game has less npcs and dialogue than Elden Eing.

Now, is ER a 10/10 game? I wouldn't know since what I got for supporting From with my 50$ is a game I can't play due to performance issues:p Even on that basis, it's probably not but I'd reckon it's at least significantly above average considering all the 10/10s around. 10/10 from major reviewers means the game is most likely an 8/10, even CP got glowing reviews in the state it was in.

I am hovering around 7/10 now the initial new/cool factor is wearing off. I am getting a bit bored its all quite samey., magic(so far) is a bit boring, combat is nothing to write home about, the skills/levelling is extremely dry. Nowhere near a 10/10.

loving how divisive this game is, was the same with cp2077. If you are in to them these are easily 9/10 or 10/10 games (ignoring temporary performance issues)
