*** Elden Ring ***

I want to buy the game but after getting a " copy " of Dark souls and giving it a hours play I'm a bit apprehensive about spending £60 on a PC game from steam.
What got to me the most was the way your character has to be sooo very precise in his attack and no room for error. Missing all the time is bad enough but with every attack an attack meter is drain and you can't just go spamming the buttons.
It wasn't much casual fun but maybe if I gave it more of a chance? I was playing with mouse and KB, maybe a gamepad is better?

A lot of that just isnt true though. I paid £35 for it and activated it on Steam for a start but the hit boxes are nowhere near that precise. Im not the most skilled gamer in the world and generally play games on easy to medium but Ive finished every Souls game except this one which I am nearly done with. You can level your way out of anything in this series if you dont have the skill to fly through it. Biggest thing is that you need a controller. This game is not meant to be played on a M and KB. I couldnt imagine trying to be honest.

You dont need a controller, thats just nonsense. Its evidentially untrue.

I am on my 2nd playthrough now, I completed the game entirely on mouse and KB. As I have said 3 times in this thread already, it boils down to what control method you are used to. The sheer fact that I , a not massively skilled player with rather aged reaction skills, was able to complete the game entirely on M&K goes to prove that if its M&K that you are greatly more familiar with, its entirely playable with it. People really need to stop saying that its only playable with a controller.

Indeed, I’m on new journey 3 and only use keyboard and mouse.
Haven’t even tried with a gamepad as I don’t get on with them.

Hes clearly not having a good time with a M and KB though is he? Lets tell him to crack on though as you can do it so he will pick it up in the end?

The game was designed with a controller in mind. Its a Playstation game. Do with that whatever you like.

You are totally missing my point. People keep saying you NEED a controller. The simple fact is that you do not NEED a controller. What every player NEEDS is to play it on the method that they are most familiar with, I am utterly hopeless with a controller, I can barely walk in a straight line on a game with a controller, so if I was to see everyone saying that there is no way I can play Elden Ring on a M&K then I may never have even bought it...see the problem?

I do not say that everyone can play on M&K, nor do I say that everyone can play on controller, my point is that the game does not NEED a controller.

You are playing with a mouse and keyboard because you openly admit you cannot use a controller. You are talking two extremes? Most people who are not playing with a controller are doing so because they arent very good at playing with them. Providing you can use one it IS the optimal way to play it. It was designed to be played on one.

I agree, if you are good with a controller then you may well find it best with a controller and likewise of course if you are good with M&K and bad with a controller you might well find it best with M&K, which is what I have always said.

What you said however, and I quote, was "Biggest thing is that you need a controller". Thats my point, a controller is not NEEDed. Its entirely personal and situational.

Biggest thing that YOU need is a controller. Im talking to him. Hes clearly telling us he cant play it on a mouse and keyboard. He DOES need a controller.

Completely run up against a brick wall now. Got to Maliketh and the 2nd form just wipes me even though Im level 130. I cant summon anyone as the dude on the horse outside is destroying me as well. Dont have a clue what Im going to do now.

Edit - First go at that horseman after typing that and I beat him. Here we go. Ive tried to summon people a few times to help and nothing ever happens. It just seems to time out. Anyone else have that problem?

He played 1 hour...and that not even on Elden Ring. For me, thats not enough information to come to the conclusion that he cant play it on a mouse and keyboard. At least certainly not enough information for me to declare that he NEEDS a controller

Maybe you should try using a mouse and keyboard :p

He quite literally told us he cant play it on a mouse and keyboard. What else would you suggest he try...a banjo?

Thats what I took from it anyways. The hit boxes are not that precise and I would bet money if he CAN use a controller he would have a better time. The only people I know laying this on M and KB and people like yourself who cannot use a controller.

Ok...I feel this is going to go down the route of having to again show the correct usage of words, but show me where he "literally" said he cannot play it on a mouse and keyboard

OK poor use of literally.

Hes saying he couldnt play it on a mouse and keyboard and the whole "precise" issue, at least to me, suggests a controller would be a better fit.

It has to be the setting and the lore why I adore the Souls games because the sheer joy of beating some of the bosses is great but I have never been so angry playing games before.
