*** Elden Ring ***

Its incredible. So much to discover and so much to take in that at first its a little overwhelming but I'm over 100 hours in now and only just hit the capital. The feeling of satisfaction you get from beating the bosses is unlike anything I have had before from playing games.

Had a long session today, wrapped up Stormveil with every miniboss as well (I think, lol). Found out how to activate the main lift:D

Staggeringly good level design and a phenomenal game. Having reached Liurnia of the Lakes and explored most of Limgrave, I'm now pretty convinced the open world is simply the best I've seen in a decade. I'd tie it with RDR2 but the exploration here is just something else.

I played all the major heavy-hitters and I don't think anything compares. It just works on so many levels. Not only that, it also feels great to play. Those guys knew what they were doing.

What the hell am I going to play after this?:p

Death Rite Bird can go **** itself!

Hate to say anything bad about this game as I love it so much, but I'll be honest, I am a little disappointed with some of the reused bosses. One in particular has kind of annoyed me -

So I got through Lake of Rot as part of Ranni's quest and thought 'Astel, Naturalborn of the Void'. Epic boss. Best so far imo. Really different from anything else with some brilliant lore behind it.

Fast forward 20 hours or so and I'm exploring Consecrated Snow Field. I go in to a mine, fight through some regular miners and get to the boss room and what do I find...It's Astel again. Erm ok. Sorry but it has kind of spoiled the original encounter for me. If any boss should be unique it was that one

just a point on reused bosses. its actually part of the lore that they can not die until certain events happen, so them springing up repeatedly makes sense.
Call it a cop-out but it certainly makes more sense once you hit endgame.

Has anyone done the Radahn fight after the latest patch?

Elden Ring patch notes 1.03.2 said:
Fixed a bug in the balance adjustment of the boss "Starscourge Radahn" in update 1.03, in which the power of some attacks was unintentionally reduced.

Just killed Mohg, Lord of Blood. Probably toughest boss so far for me. I did feel dirty summoning the mimic tear, but had to be done.

The area you find him in is insane for high level items and dune farming. There is a short stretch where you can get 100,000 runes in 2-3 minutes easily.

I let go the impure feelings around summoning spirit ashes when the game pulled a full-on boss gankfest on me in some dungeon - two demi-human bosses, plus a pretty big bunch of normal mobs. First run in solo I was stunlocked to death from every angle. My wolves were the bestest boys on the next attempt. From then on it was all fair game!

(And I think I ground out 30-40 levels on those sleepy dudes near one of the Mohg palace shrines!)

Trying to run through the game on NG+ real quick to get achievements, what is the fastest way to the end boss without having to do any glitches?

I know there is a whole secret area(I'm in it atm) ending in a legacy dungeon. I'm actually thinking of leaving it on purpose and saving it for my next playthrough, hopefully when dlc is released.

I've just killed the fire giant and I'm tempted to just go through the story til the end now as it seems natural and leave the whole area.

I've never played a game as temperamental as this. Last week it just suddenly decided it didn't like MSI afterburner and wouldn't start without it being disabled, now I can't start it again it just crashes after the first screen. I was playing it fine last night!

Shame this great game is being ruined by all this technical bs.

Finished it tonight. Kind of brute forced my way through the final 2 battles. Checking YouTube after I could have respecced for an easier time but I’d rather do a complete play through using a different style. Bloodfang carried me through most of the game with a dual bleed build.

Ending was interesting but I won’t spoil. Missed loads of content like optional caves I didn’t discover and didn’t face dungeater either. Wanted to save a bunch for play through two.

Tempted to give demon souls re-make a go on the PS5. Grasped why many love the souls series after finishing this.

That bloodhound fang sword is really good especially as you can get it right at the start.

That's what I'm using now at +3 so far, pure melee. Just went through Caria Manor after getting lost exploring Liurnia for a couple of hours, lol.

It's the first time I'm using a greatsword in Soulsborne as a main weapon:p

Ha ha Liurnua is a nice area though. That sword is what I finished the game with, I think I added a blood ash to buff the blood on it. With the swarm incantation as well everything bleeds really quick. The normal damage is insane as well which imo makes it one of the better bleed weapons.

Do you not get bored of using the same weapons / damage types all the way through? I think I respecced 4 or 5 times to use different weapons.

Yea a little. I went through midgame/late with two heavy thrusting weapons to change it up slightly (Bloody Helice and Great Epee) the issue is although the game lets you respec completely. It's not easy knowing how to unlock the ball bearings on your very first play through. So I had to actively hunt for smithing stones / sombering stones and due to being quite late into the game. I wasn't able to experiment with a new weapon because the cost and time invested to get the resources was not worth it imo.

I want to buy the game but after getting a " copy " of Dark souls and giving it a hours play I'm a bit apprehensive about spending £60 on a PC game from steam.
What got to me the most was the way your character has to be sooo very precise in his attack and no room for error. Missing all the time is bad enough but with every attack an attack meter is drain and you can't just go spamming the buttons.
It wasn't much casual fun but maybe if I gave it more of a chance? I was playing with mouse and KB, maybe a gamepad is better?
