Elite:Dangerous

So I made a mistake with the Eagle? I only upgraded because it looked better than the sidewinder lol, ah well I've clearly still got a lot to learn, don't often get chance to put in long sessions like i have this weekend so just learning the basics of flying was an achievement for me. I really need to get on top of the controls beyond basic flight in case I get interdicted. Only playing solo at the moment so not much threat around at this early stage. I'm doing delivery jobs (mostly data) to try and build up my credits. Accidently ramming the space station seems to have knocked my rep back and the money I can earn has reduced. I'm sure I'll get back up.

I can't take the combat upgrade path because I can't dogfight for toffee...I couldn't even get past the training missions ffs...

Eagles a fun ship to fly but you need tobe a good pilot as it has rubbish shields and an egg shell hull so dont get into a slugging match.
Easiest way to make money is find a high resource extraction site (most ring systems has them) hang around the security services scan every ship within range, when they start firing at ships wait until its shields are down then join in the shooting(make sure you have scanned the target ship it should say its wanted) even though the security has done most of the work you will get the bounty, try and stick to larger ships they are worth around 1000000 each. Once you have a good amount of bounty's head back to a station to claim the rewards( dont die on the way or the bounty's will disappear ).

Wing up with others or go fly a fighter in multicrew and go bounty hunting, it'll get you some combat experience with far less risk. Ping me in game and I'll happily help out, CMDR name is in my sig.

I'm not on very often and it's not regular times, I have the same problem with online racing which is what I enjoy most. My lifestyle is more suited to offline pick up and play tbh...thanks for the offer though it is appreciated.

I'll give this a try thanks, ring systems, sounds like i need to learn how to use the maps properly.

You can also bounty hunt at the nav beacon. You may have noticed every star in every populated system has a nav beacon: if you drop out of hyperspace and scan the actual beacon that's floating there you'll get all data about the system - of course without gaining any credits you would've gotten for scanning the system yourself, so don't do that too often. Anyway, these nav beacon locations also have pirates coming in for loot, so you can gain bounties there. It'll be at a slower pace than at resource gathering sites though, which come in 4 grades (Low, normal, High and Hazardous) where the grade mostly is about the amount of system security presence at this site - so stick to Low and normal at least initially. :)

I'm going to have to be careful, I don't feel like I could fight off a flea with my lack of dogfighting skills atm. Will stick with plundering the loot from the security forces hard work, thanks for the tips...

Yeah that's why the way to go is to go to the nav beacon or a low or normal res site, and then wait ... look around, scan targets by pointing your nose at them, and keep an eye out for those that are wanted. If you have a kill warrant scanner, you can use that for extra credits. Then, as they're engaged in combat with the local security forces, join in. Make sure to do some damage (I believe the number is anywhere below 26% of their health) and you'll get credit for the kill which you can cash in at any of the local stations.

Make sure you don't have a bounty on your head when doing this, and keep your cargo bay empty ... or others will come for you.

If you accidentally shoot a friendly (it can happen) just stow your weapons while you're boosting away and as soon as you're not mass locked jump to any nearby star system. You may have to wait a few minutes there for the bounty to turn into a fine which you can then pay off in the original system.

I thought it was a case of doing any damage before they die, the damage needs to be refreshed every 20 seconds to be counted.
So you can hit a 100% health ship and as long as it dies within 20 seconds of your last hit you'll get the bounty money.

OK, I just bought on Steam. Do I have to download on Steam or can I register a Frontier account with the CD key from Steam?

EDIT: It's OK I managed to sort it.

Play it normally for a few minutes first before trying it in VR. Do a couple of the Tutorials in 2D then repeat them in VR.

It's a real "WOW" moment when you first load up Elite in VR. You will appreciate it more if you play in 2D first :)

I just went to play this and selected the tutorial > basic flight.

For some reason I'm sitting behind the pilot chair looking at the back of it! If I try to move forward enough to be in the chair, then I get my grid showing up as I'm practically nose to the monitor.

How do I adjust that in-game?

You'll need to assign a command in the controls options to reset the HMD position, can't remember the exact name of it right now but it is there.

When you are on the home screen in elite that gives you the options of training, start, options etc etc, go into options, then controls, some where in there is an option for resetting the position which you will need to assign.
