Epic Games Store now open!

But Rockstar have their own launcher for GTA and I'd assume they'd use it for RDR2 too so we can all have RDR2 on PC without touching Epic :)

Its a good point. One thing that this shows I think, is that its inevitable that eventually a title will be on Epic exclusive that someone really REALLY wants, be it Cyberpunk or Elder Scrolls 6 or some other title of their tastes. Its at that moment when the individual is most likely to cave in and buy regardless of their previous standing. Gamers, not all gamers by any means but a lot of them, want the newest, best thing. Its why we scramble for the latest hardware, the latest graphics card, post our specs in signatures and rave and rant about the latest bigname titles. That sort of pressure, both internal and external, could be a driving factor when it comes to a really highly personally desired title appearing on a platform the individial abhores.

I long thought it might do, wonder if any "I'm not touching Epic" people will sway in order to have Red Dead 2 on PC.

I was waiting for the PC release and i am not sure i can be swayed. However as a consumer i have another choice and that is the PS4 (Pro) version. Sit back and relax on my couch in front of the 4K telly seems all that more appealing now.
Probably at half the price of the eventual PC release too.

Ive often wished that I could get into couch gaming, but I just cant get used to being so far from the screen and my eyesight at my age is buggered at that distance lol

Not a hope in hell that Cyberpunk will be an Epic exclusive, when CDPR have GOG.

Oh noes. That is the one game that I’d cave in for.

But I’ve heard nothing but moans about RDR2. The hype was through the roof at launch but when people started actually playing the damn thing, nobody was that impressed. Nice graphics but awful gameplay. And not a single BAFTA award. :p

My eye sight is great and I still can't do it. I don't feel as involved in the game sitting in a couch. I get bored and sleepy far quicker.

The irrational hatred in this thread and constant circle-jerking seem to be taken directly out of a tragicomedy. You blindly adore a social media star because he represents the 'Average Joe' against 'Evil Corp' (T-series) but you also love Valve, one of the largest corporate mammoths in gaming, for no reason other than it existing. And when Steam does its yearly sales the main narrative is 'The sales are not what they used to be!'. 'Activist' gamers are one of the most bizarre things the Internet has ever spawned, I rarely see such impressive levels of cognitive dissonance.

There's nothing wrong with exclusive deals on platforms which are free to use. Any gains Origin, Epic or any other competitors make are taken from Valve's market share, which at the moment is too close to a monopoly (monopolies are bad for both consumers and developers). There's nothing wrong with using several apps to access your games, your PC is powerful enough to handle it and you have no problem installing 100 apps on your smartphones.

I hope this is just the beginning and Epic manages to attract more and more exclusive deals. Valve will be forced to react and we, the gamers who just care about good games, not which app launches them, will reap the benefits.

Just gonna ignore the stolen data, security failures and suspect management then?

I’m so ******* tired of this ‘it’s just another app’ argument, it’s not the main point of contention here, it’s that a firm has suddenly jumped in the field with manipulative practices right after a huge buyout from a incredibly fast growing Chinese firm with questionable motives.

The future of tencent is pretty much guaranteed to be just as massive as one of the big 4 or 5 tech companies in the next 5 to 10 years. Valve can’t compete with that at all. If Huawei is anything to go by, it’s unlikely to be much different at tencent and I don’t wish to support that in any manner.

Ignoring the political argument I have, could you describe a positive outcome of this that you’ve alluded to at the end of your post?

I could see RDR2 being a EGS/RSC exclusive but it would be dumb. Almost everyone will just get RSC key because they'll be able to buy a key cheaper elsewhere, just like The Division 2. It would just be a stupidly expensive bit of publicity.

Cyberpunk going EGS/GoG exclusive would be very surprising. I'm sure Epic could throw enough cash at CDProjekt to make them do it, but it would just be the same situation as RDR2 and they'd lose a lot of cash over it. Having said that, they keep doing deals with Ubisoft so maybe they don't care about the cash right now.

Your information is out of date, Epic introduced the start of regional pricing back end of January which they are expanding. In fact I recall EGS supports regional pricing in areas which Steam has traditionally not (Africa/Carribean etc.). Metro Exodus was as cheap as $20 iirc

Yup, they got regional pricing up now in quite a lot of countries. This was by far their biggest issue so it's good they have that sorted. Next thing they need to fix is getting a presence in China. I don't think we have current number but I know China made up 17% of steam's revenue a couple of years back and it's only been getting bigger. That'll be where most lost sales and piracy will be coming from until they sort it.

If RDR2 is on Epic store I don't care, I need that on PC. 4k and (hopefully) 60fps.
Wont happen, Rockstar have their own storefront and Epic doesn't have enough money to make that worthwhile. Oh and the fact it's never coming to PC doesn't bode well either :P
