Epic Games Store now open!

That would be absolutely great and I am all for it... but that would require a launcher to actually compete in a serious way (which isn't happening with EGS, yet)

True, and "yet" is the keyword. The longer Steam sits on its laurels the more time everyone elses launchers have to catch up. GOG2 is already doing some things that Steam doesnt, we'll see what occurs in the long run and which launcher is on top in 10 years time.

Sure. GOG2 is great, better features for our game platforms is great and something we should all want, but until those things start to happen on EGS in a significant way they can't get credit for what they "might do"

Steam annoys me and the mobile app is garbage. All feels very clunky. Also dislike the separate chat app.

Agree... why, a company with virtually limitless cash could easily hire a team to develop a mobile app and chat app that absolutely blows it away... Combined with a few giveaway incentives and other Steam-beating features they could really compete with Steam and easily take over market share, or at the very least force Steam to start improving, both of which would be great for both consumers and developers at the same time. Ah but sadly no such company exists :( Guess the only option is to keep throwing money around on pointless exclusivity bickering

sorry I just had to LOL at this. They can't get credit for what they might do, but they can get slated by you because they "might" in the future have a subscription service.

Someone at EPIC must have really got to you.:D

on the topic why does a launcher/store even have to compete over trivial features?

I prefer to treat steam, epic, uplay, origin, battle.net, rockstar etc as storefronts. The majority of games have their own in game "community" anyway. And I use discord to hang out with friends online.

I don't what a profile, I don't want to follow people, I don't want a chat app. I don't need to be told Jimmy started playing planet zoo. I just want to play a game.
It's the equivalent of getting a notification that Karen is currently shopping in tesco and got rewarded with 100 clubcard points. I don't care!

ALSO I don't want an app filled with garbage. If you click on a game in steam in most cases you are treated with pointless memes or naked women or posters or completely unrelated anime cartoons?

I wonder with all the criticism of China, how many people realise Tencent actually owns 40% of Epic(the same Tencent deeply involved with the social credit scheme in China). I hope Trump doesn't find out!! :P

Uninstalled Gog galaxy 2. Seems quite a good platform however when I ran a game it had to launch origin first and then launch the game. I may as well launch origin myself and cut out Gog.

Tell that to all the people who worry about China monitoring them and so on, and then use TikTok. :)

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is currently free.

Edit: Got most of my games on steam, can’t stand the platform so rarely use it.

Superb deal, I imagine most people probably have Borderlands 2 by now, but it does include The Pre-Sequel, which a lot of people might not yet have and means more Handsome Jack fun :)

What's the latest with cloud saves on Epic Store games? Has it been rolled out to every single title on there now? I know it only started with a select few last year.

Free on the Epic Games store?
which country are you in? I'm in the UK and can't see this

are these the Borderlands goty editions?
I haven't played any of these, if I were to just play one then which one do people recommend?
perhaps the 1st for the start of the story, the 2nd for enhanced gameplay (just guessing)?

The Handsome Collection is the complete versions (incl. DLC) of Borderlands 2 and Borderlands The Pre-Sequel. Better off playing BL2 if you were to just do one.

That's a good point if only that was my entire reason for criticising them. The exclusivity stuff is something they are doing now, the lazily implemented features is something they are doing now, all the data breaches and performance concerns and whatnot are things that they already did.

Epic isn't an acronym (would have though such a massive fan of theirs would know that)

Whereas there's never been any Steam data breaches?
