European Grand Prix 2010, Valencia Street Circuit - Race 9/19

Also of comical note I have seen criticism based on the errors of-

-presuming charlie whiting is the guy who hands out penalties.
-presuming that the stewarding team is british therefore has a british bias, its actually 2 germans, a czech and a spanaird.
-some blaming johnny herbert thinking he is now the head steward.
-some not realising that hamilton did actually serve a penalty.
-some showing a overhead freezeframe saying it showed the same as what hamilton would have seen from a foot off the floor at 100mph.
-an accusation of brake testing alonso to force him behind the safety car.

Got to love idiots.
You forgot the people who seem to think there are 2 classes in F1 as well and that the B class has no right to defend there position.

Someone will surely correct me if I'm wrong, but the last time I remember a guy running one set of tyres for the race was Monaco '97, and Mika Salo for Tyrrell. Made even more fantastic by the fact he did it with a broken front wing for a good portion of the race....

Someone did something similar this year (Alonso - Monaco?) but obviously he did have to stop. Only other one I can think of is indeed Salo, and he came 5th iirc, 2 laps down. Did he even pit for fuel that race? I remember him trundling around like he was driving a tractor :p

Quite. Not desperately sure why people are saying otherwise. And hell, if the tyre rules weren't so retarded and you could run an entire race on one set, how far up the order could Kamui have finished?

Yep, Koby was superb..

As to why some have negative reactions, just look at the source of the negative comments, and there is a direct correlation between that persons favourite driver, and the person Koby was doing a good job of keeping behind him ;)

They didn't do one in the end because the power never came back in the paddock.

Indeed! There was so little power around that Leggard and Webber managed to watch the end of the football together if his Twitter is to be believed.

Still chuckling away to myself imagining Alonso's face when he heard the results of the stewards investigations. As much as I admire him for his driving abilities I still detest the man. Regardless of Hamilton overtaking the SC and where he dropped after his drive through the fact remains that Alonso would still have ended up getting shafted by the pitstops and ended up where he did.

Thank god for 5 second penalties!!! Couldn't imagine the uproar hanging out 9 drivers a 20 or 30 second penalty each and trying to explain to everyone why the result is so different suddenly. Good call from the team and heinz-harrold so we dont have a spa from 2 years ago all over again....

I think a fine for senna and glock should really have been implemented though as they were not only ignoring blue flags but weaving around each other (and consiquently) the front runners a bit and i dont want to see the race dictated by who got unlucky trying to get past bruno senna...

I love what Lewis said about alonso. From the bbc

"And when told of Alonso's anger was relayed to him, Hamilton said the Spaniard should stick to analysing his own performance."

"It's good to know his weak point, I guess," :D

Great race. I think they should sake DC because he is very biased towards RB all the time and it pees me off.
They should hire our Nige to do the job.

is DC still the RB ambassador or whatever?

hes always pimping them like he gets paid anytime they are mentioned its beyond a joke

ferrari lose out so changed of rules in needed.

also

i dont no how anyone can say that crash wasnt webbers fault, he drove into the back of the lotus. Couthard basicaly saying because were faster than you, you cant race us. he didnt mention that in monaco when alonso was stuck behind a virgin car.

How long before Ferrari and more precisely di Montezemolo decides to blame it on the slower new teams? Afterall it was a Lotus that was involved in the accident that brought out the SC.

He's been moaning about them for sometime. That will take a back seat for now whilst the SC drum starts beating.

Not at all - there is clear indication Sauber and Koby still had relatively fresh tyres on the car, CLEARLY indicating (to anyone who wants to admit it anyway) that the strategy was NOT optimised

FACT 1

You have to use two sets of tyres - no matter what (so what if one car is capable of finishing the race on one set, its still against the rules to do so

FACT 2

Sauber plainly didnt optimise their own race strategy (otherwise their times would have been dropping off fractionally before the end of the race) - so they didnt get the full use out of them, and therefore "air time" was more important to them

How do you miss such an obvious point

Ferrari are not complaining about Alonso's position per se - but the RELATIVE points finish to Hamilton (who he was directly behind just before the safety car)

Yep. He's a consultant for Red Bull and is a test driver for Red Bull and Toro Rosso according to Wikipedia.

He also writes some Red Bull sponsored article in a newspaper doesn't he?

Anyway in a set of videos for the 2010 season Jake asked the pundits to name their tip for World Champion; when DC said Vettel the others roared with laughter at DC's supposed impartiality. :D

Haven't read all of thread, been watching cricket in the sunny sun sun.

But 5 seconds. where did they pluck that from?

20 seconds for a drive through, 30 seconds for a 10seconds stop penalty or grid places.

5 seconds is just so random.

I was really disappointed that DC could be so biased on the BBC coverage, in my eyes, for once, EJ was actually spot on in saying that Webber made the mistake there. I'm embarrassed for DC, it was so transparent too and his remarks on A and B teams were non-competitive and against what I believe is part of the spirit of F1.

There was no reason for Kovalainen not to be racing and Jake touched on the point that if they start making slower cars to feel obliged to let them past it's totally against the spirit of racing and would probably upset almost all fans.

I think it was a Webber mistake. He got caught out by trying to slipstream and being to close, and misjudged how slow the Lotus was lapping. As one of the best motor racing drivers in the world, he should be able to do better. Really glad he was OK after that though, genuinely surprised when he walked away. Kudos to the teams and FIA for pushing the safety regulations forward over the recent years.

Had Webber stated his thoughts on the incident yet?

Other than those things and Kobayashi overtakes, the race was pretty much as dull as we should have expected from Valencia. Great day for German sport though.

5 seconds seems okay to me. I wish they used it for Schumacher earlier in the season. Or hell since they are making this stuff up as they go along just 1 second to put him back behind Alonso.

I wish that the rules were clearer in general.

They really didn't deserve any penalty, this whole minimum inlap time thing is crap, Jenson for instance was on a flat out lap, and the safteycar was deployed as he was coming into the last corner, what do they expect him to do stop in the middle of the track to avoid going under that time, its pathetic.

5 seconds seems okay to me.l.

penalties are usually in line with time that would have been lost in race.

Which is roughly 20seconds for a drive through.

Where did they pluck 5 seconds from. rules are rules.

it's never been a problem before, so I assume where they are on teh lap is taken into consideration. The system knows where every car is and what they are doing.

it's actually quite a sensible rule, it means drivers can't go flat out until they hit the SC
