European Grand Prix 2010, Valencia Street Circuit - Race 9/19

Sauber *****d up their own race - I still think they could have got at least 2 points more by coming in 2 or 3 laps earlier and using their 2nd set of tyres more optimally (as mentioned by others in the last page or so)
If he had come in 2 or 3 laps earlier he would have come out even further behind Alonso and Buemi, he was lapping quicker than them on the old rubber which allowd him to come out as close to them as he did, if he had come in sooner he would have had more time to make up to them, yes he probably would have still got passed them but he wouldn't have made up anymore places either way.

So what if he stopped Button from getting the maximum out of his car, that's racing, if you don't like it then motorsport is obviously not for you.

Kobayashi had a great race, although Jenson should have passed him, I reckon if it had been Alonso, Hamilton, Webber or Vettel behind they would all have been trying much harder to pass not dropping back.

Hamilton and Vettel would have done, aye. But Button clearly decided that there was little chance of him catching Hamilton anyway and thus he may as well play it safe for a comfortable 3rd. Which, in the end, was what he got.

With 20/20 hindsight, yeah, sure, they probably could have done. But there was no way they could predict that Koby would flash past Alonso and Buemi like that. They would have expected him to be unable to pass. Staying out made perfect sense given what they knew at the time.

Whilst I sat there thinking go on Button pass him - what would the point have been. He knew Kob had to pit anyway and lets be honest even if he cruised up behind Hamilton he would not doubt have been told mix blah, cool brakes etc to keep position or am I just being a bit cynical ;)

Damn right.

The code word for hold station, seems to be "conserve fuel". Yesterday when Hamilton was actually/honestly told to conserve fuel, it was punctuated with a fuel mixture setting - this corresponds to a button which he has to press on his steering wheel.

Indeed, Yellow G4 was it not? Then when he was informed he had to serve a drive through he was told to stay out and switch to Yellow G1 to make a gap for himself.

Yep that was it.

But notice, in Turkey, when the McLarens were told to conserve fuel, they were not issued with a fuel setting, merely, "convserve fuel".

Excellent. Ferrari face action from the FIA for "bringing the sport into disrepute" (it's a rule they used on McLaren a couple years ago).

That'll teach 'em.

I think Ferrari's anger is more frustration than anything else. In Canada, they were robbed by Button, who overtook Alonso. Then in Valencia, when they believed their new update would pay immediate dividends, they were actually relegated to the mid-field and robbed by Koyabashi. Now they are looking for someone to blame.

I think Alonso and Ferrari need to stop worrying about Hamilton and concentrate on their own racing - something which was said to Alonso, during the race, over the radio by his engineer.

Ferrari now have a steady stream of minor upgrades in the pipeline and that should see them move to the front of the grid, but right now Alonso is dropping too many points.

As for the FIA taking action against Ferrari - don't make me laugh.

Assuming that McLaren don't get their big Silverstone update all wrong then Hamilton has the WDC in the bag.

Although it is looking good for Hamilton, I think it's too soon to say it's in the bag. McLaren are still just behind Redbull on qualifying and I'm sure Redbull are developing quickly too.

Even if there wasn't team orders I doubt Button would get past Hamilton around Valencia unless Lewis made a mistake!

I wouldnt use the word 'robbed', that implies something underhanded when in reality alonso lost his position to button by getting distracted by a slow car and in valancia alonso lost his position to koby by getting distracted by a slow car.

It has been manipulated, but not over Hamilton.

I have no doubt that if it was not 9 cars (6 of which were in the points) they would have either got 20 seconds or grid drops. This 5 seconds makes no sense. Other than it's a punishment which affected the least amount of people. But was still a "punishment" as one person lost out.

Oh pfft. I'm in no way a Ferrari fan, but there's no need for a punishment here. Ferrari are either showing some racing passion or are letting the pressure get to them - either way they care about the sport they're in. Let people have a moan, it just makes the people who do the talking on the track more admirable.

New sponsor I see.
