European Grand Prix 2010, Valencia Street Circuit - Race 9/19

Oh pfft. I'm in no way a Ferrari fan, but there's no need for a punishment here. Ferrari are either showing some racing passion or are letting the pressure get to them - either way they care about the sport they're in. Let people have a moan, it just makes the people who do the talking on the track more admirable.

A moan is a moan, but Alonso/ ferrari are saying that in effect the race was fixed. That should be punished by the fia.
Some of the stuff ive been reading on the spanish press is cringe worthy. Apparently the fia presidents nationality has decided the out come of all the championships in the past 2 decades. When prost won the fia had a french guy at the helm. With mad max we had british champions and a german champion, just lol

Any aerial shots of the Lewis and the safety car line then?
I liked it when he said "almost quarter of a second faster" when the actual figure on screen was "+0.270" or something, which is of course over 1/4 of a second.
I've spotted this as well. He also seems to not spot things that are happening on the track when he's talking about something else. Then he and Brundle realise and its like an air of "Oh golly gosh, how did that happen?!" and I'm thinking, "I flipping saw it at the same time as you would have".

Regarding the whole 'did Koby hold Button up' thing - to borrow from Niki Lauda, if the driver behind doesn't like it then he can overtake or **** off. Simple as.

I'm sure McLaren thought Kamui would be coming in earlier, which is probably why Button was holding station behind him. McLaren will have been blindly following the strategies laid about by their super-duper computer back in Woking that will have told them that no-one would try going that deep into the race on their first set of tyres. I'd love to know what would have happened without the crappy 'must use both dry compounds' rule, 'cause I bet those tyres would have held up to the finish quite happily.

And as for the comments I'm seeing around the interwubs about how Heikki was completely at fault for Webber's smash - two words. BULL. ****. He tried to get out of Webber's way, Webber kept tucking in behind, Heikki hit the brakes for the corner and Webber didn't. Cue one enormous crash. I see Webber is whining about it as well. How about being upset with yourself for ruining Hekki's afternoon, Mark?

Agreed on both points. Shame you aren't allowed to make a set of tyres last the whole race.

Also conclusive that Alonso wasn't "a meter behind" like he claimed.

And also conclusive that, had Lewis not hesitated and kept his foot down, he'd have been clear of the SC before the line, incurring no penalty, thus he was really only penalised for this hesitation, so the fact he lost no places is poetic justice really.

Alonso & Ferrari need to grow the **** up.

The point being the SC is supposed to pick up the whole field - including Vettel. The FIA really messed that one up.

i predict 10,000 euro fine.

Which is a shame, because in any other sport there would be a harsh punishment for such claims that Ferrari and Alonso have made. The funniest thing about Alonso complaining is that he completely forgets about Singapore...

Excellent. Ferrari face action from the FIA for "bringing the sport into disrepute" (it's a rule they used on McLaren a couple years ago).

That'll teach 'em.

So, which is it guys? Are the FIA out there to help Ferrari or hinder them? It's just, you know, hauling up Ferrari on a charge of bringing the sport into disrepute might be construed as being something that works against them. Just sayin', is all.

;)

The above being said....

A number of officials from the sport's governing body are known to be angered by the Scuderia's intemperate response after the penalty drive-through awarded against Lewis Hamilton for overtaking the safety car did not prevent the British driver from finishing second in Spain
What number would that be, then? At any rate....not exactly official yet then is it? Why not save your vitriol (justified though it would be) until it actually bloody happens? Or would that be too much for this forum? :D

Agreed on both points. Shame you aren't allowed to make a set of tyres last the whole race.

Ain't that the damned truth....

In the bag? We haven't even seen half a season yet!

Red Bull had a large speed advantage for most of the 9 races and are behind in the championships. Neither Vettel or Webber are consistent enough to take on someone like Hamilton unless they have a far better car.

I would just put it down as a racing incident myself but Heikki was not trying to get out of the way at all. He stated after the crash he was defending his line but braked way earlier than Weber was expecting.

This is one of the newer rules in F1 I don't agree with. I consider this affecting the race tactics of teams. Just tell them they've got x tyres for a weekend for each driver and let each team and each driver use them throughout the weekend as they see fit.

The FIA says how many engines the teams can use but would they say you can only use this particular engine for this race and then use another one for this other particular race?

Just give the teams the rules and keep out of race tactics. That's what the teams do.

Just thinking, is this the same Ferrari F1 team moaning about the unfair and manipulated result and demanding new safety car rules as the Ferrari F1 team that didn't "test" their car with the new exhaust at Fiorano?

And would it be the same Ferrari F1 team that gave Massa a new contract recently? Perhaps thinking that a new contract would turn Massa back into the driver he was before Hungary last year? :p

What? Watch it again! He very clearly moves to the left very quick when Webber was very close and Webber stupidly follows him and causes the incident.

Fantastic lack of judgement on Webbers part just like with the Hamilton incident in Australia!

See in my opinion thats one of the area's that is going wrong. Do we really want to see everyone doing what Kobi did this race, easily making a set of tyres last a whole race. Need I remind you of just how good the racing was in Canada. We don't want tyres that last so damned long!! What we really need is tyres that go off much more quickly if you push them too hard. I think it would make for better racing, especially since without having any real difference in the cars, and some tracks, actually most, being difficult to overtake on. We keep moaning that there's not enough overtaking, yet now we're saying we'd like to see a set of tyres last a whole race? Which is it? Look at the difference tyres made once Kobi pitted, he overtook 2 cars, and that was entirely down to the difference in the grip level from the tyres between the cars. If they all had just the one set to do the race, then chances are they would all be pretty much in the same boat. Now yes I can remember back to when they did have just the one set and we watched how some drivers went backwards when their tyres went off too soon. With these new bridgestone tyres it seems that would rarely happen, if anything the modern tyres are just too good. Pirrelli need to make a tyre thats not quite so long lasting but at the same time not going to appear like they are incapable of making a tyre that can last especially when compared to bridgestone.

A million times this. Even if its only one compund for the weekend the tyres should be ok if you look after them for 15 laps or insane if you push them hard for a few laps but then crap for the rest of the stint. The pit crews should be kept busy!
